  1. It could well be just superficial. Check for any movement like the previous poster said. Another thing you can do is rap around the outside of the transom with your knuckles or a blunt object and watch out for any change in sound. Any rotten areas will have a dull sound.
  2. Actually it is marine parks that are not cost effective with the expense of pro buy outs, expensive enforcement such as patrols and aerial surveillance, administration (bureaucratic empire building). In contrast is costs practically nothing to adjust traditional methods.
  3. The Sydney marine park was a political initiative, so I think the writer is putting the cart before the horse. The DPI was just doing what it was told. And it was politics that stopped it when the government saw the backlash it created.
  4. But there is nothing there about prohibiting the taking of blue swimmer crabs.
  5. I would use the same resin you used originally.
  6. Tinnies are designed to have the right attitude one up and unless you have a really large motor I don't see why you can't bet the right trim with adjusting the motor down, moving a bit of gear forward as others have suggested.
  7. Well you are trimming the bow down, that's the normal way it's expressed.
  8. Most likely it was a king - they can't resist live squid. It probably rubbed you off on the rocks. 80lb leader is a good choice but you don't say what your main line is. It's best to fish heavy and let them run as little as possible, eg a 24kg or heavier main line.
  9. 2 years is a bit long to go without a service even if it has done few hours.
  10. I wouldn't switch when the motor is running. It doesn't do the motor any good cutting off the electrical supply. This will happen if you inadvertently go through the off setting. I'm not sure about going through the both setting but I would play it safe and only switch when the motor is off.
  11. It's probably best not to mix chemistry types. As to charging, yes you can leave them in the boat, just try to keep them ventilated (eg hatches open). Charge one at a time with the isolator switch in the off position. And yes I would have 2 cranking/ general purpose batters of a suitable size for your motor.
  12. Your problem is that you are using a keel roller trailer as a drive on trailer which it is not designed to do. So a self centering roller is not enough as you might miss it. Some sort of catching device is needed.
  13. There is a device called a Retrievamate which has spring loaded rollers. A bit expensive but they work very well.
  14. I'd leave it there. You would be making a lot of work for yourself; either you will have to fill up a lot of holes somehow or find a way of reattaching it.
  15. Hacking. The strong winds stir up the bottom silt in the Bay and it goes very quiet.
  16. There already is a bag limit. Also moves like that are put up for discussion - I haven't seen anything official. There is an article in the Narooma News about it but it looks more like rumour/ speculation.
  17. I got a Gladiator IM10 popper rod at one of the boat shows. I think it was under $100. It's a Chinese knock off but it has a nice action.
  18. The Squidgies (with the metal barb) are no longer being made. There are a few still in the stores in the larger sizes. I have built up a stockpile that should last a few years. They are better at keeping the lure in place than other designs.
  19. First thing I would try is running some heavy fishing line into the tell tale while the motor is running. Quite often it's just a matter of a few grains of sand or slime causing a blockage.
  20. I don't know about bass but there are some huge mullet there and they will take a bait.
  21. Population is stabilizing in many developed countries, even falling in Japan. We'd stabilise at 27 million at then gradually decline if we were running zero NOM. Instead we have mass immigration giving us the highest population growth in the developed World bar Israel.
  22. I have been doing well off Sydney - probably better than usual for spring. Snapper, not in big nos but with mowies, pigfish, flathead, nannygai and even a good sized pearl peach adding up to a good catch
  23. The catch data is collected and put together by the DPI, it is what it is, nothing 'vested interest' about it. PS you are making a lot of assumptions and passing them off as 'real life observations'. Eg prawn trawlers trawl over sandy bottom offshore or mud river bottoms scored daily by strong currents and research shows they do little damage to these habitats. Also there is area management - ie there are a lot of places they can't trawl.
  24. Not here in NSW. The rec catch is equal or greater than the commercial catch for several popular species.
  25. Thanks for that. I was on the water Sat. Must have missed the Illawong accident by 30 min and I launched at Revesby River Rd ramp (where the second incident was near), too. David Coleman has a petition to ban them from the Georges River on his site. I wasn't sure before but I signed it yesterday.
