  1. Gone back to foam because i cant be stuffed with all the checking dates/cylinders/service etc
  2. Noel have you ever actually known one to fail? , certainly the tubing used to hook it to the tank could fail but the way those pumps work means that water wont go through unless the pump is on
  3. A 3 kg king will eat a 40 cm slimy-just slow troll them at medium paddle speed, that keeps them under control- you want kings-chase kings-be a bit more ambitious
  4. Slimies =kingie food=stick a hook in the slimie and use them live
  5. Independant Outboards at Blacktown every time-your only problem will be getting in.
  6. pretty sure it was for casting competitions-not really for fishing
  7. Bees Knees is one of the best things ive bought-you can speed the process up by using a power drill in the despooling process
  8. Listened to an interesting podcast a while back-Steve Rinella from Meateater had a parisitologist on his show, mainly talking about animal parasites but a fair bit about fish-there are a couple of creatures that live in fish that can infect humans after consumption-but not if the fish is cooked or frozen-the other bit that he said was that the parasites that did transfer to humans are essentially harmless -he was talking about ocean fish.
  9. Mustad 4200 are the ready for ganging hooks but they are pretty soft and arent really good for bigger fish-having said that my son landed a 22kg spanish a few years ago on a set of them-but 3/4 of the hooks were pretty straight when i gaffed the fish. If you are serious about larger fish use Tarpon's in either 4/0 or6/0. Easiest way to open the eye is with a hammer, block of wood and a nail or punch-besides whacking things with a hammer is good therapy.Seriously though the Tarpons are the way to go for spining gars for kings or proper mackeral fishing. heres a video for it
  10. Saturday is a long way off-check the weather Thursday, Friday and Sat before you leave.
  11. Get a downrigger, learn to catch bait and squid and fish structure. Oh and fish midweek.
  12. good stuff Nathan-when my kids were that small i would just take them to the wharf at Bobbin (or anywhere else) and used some peeled prawns on very small hooks and just catch tiddlers like little bream and yakkas- this was usually more than enough to keep them amused and was pretty stress free rather than dragging the boat out etc, kids like to catch lots ,not neccessarily big stuff. My daughter is now 17 and unfortunately not very keen to fish anymore-enjoy it while you can!!
  13. Neil is spot on-look at the way different fish feed-tailor/macks/wahoo have cutting teeth, all of them will aim to hit prey in the middle/tail section and cut the bait in half or at least remove the motor(tail) from the baitfish-they will then swing around and eat the remains. Salmon/kingfish only have holding teeth and tend to grab bait by the head and swallow it whole (which if you look at the way a baitfishes fins fold makes perfect sense). Gang hooks are great for tailor but the best way to beach fish for them with gang hooks is to keep the bait moving and when you feel a bite-DONT Strike-just keep winding and wait for the weight of the fish to hook itself. i have caught thousands of tailor (literally) and cannot ever remember getting bitten off either on gangs or lure fishing- 20lb mono is fine for them. Well done on a 60cm chopper too-they are a proper fish at that size.
  14. nope pole it-use the fishes momentum and just lift it out of the water using the rod-dont be tentative use some muscle
  15. Spent way to many years spinning the rocks -mainly with 20 and 25lb mono-a 70 cm king wasnt something you faffed around with-just pole it. No need for a net or gaff.
  16. Hi Nathan, its about half a kilometer from the last line of boats at the marina, there is a big set of rocks jutting out on the north side of the creek and the south side has mangroves and a sand/mud spit, the channel gets constricted here and the runout tide is a usually a sure fire bet for lizards. if you take your little one up there go on the falling tide and she can get out on the sandbank and play when shes had enough of sitting with dad in the ýak. This time of year it should be firing for lizards and whiting.
  17. Are you sure they are stingrays, 5 in one session sounds a bit odd
  18. not sure if im too late-pick of the spots for me up there is Sawtell Caravan Park-especially if you get a cabin above the beach.Never had an issue with parking boat .
  19. There is a bunch of wrecks up there -try this link from a dive site for more info --https://www.michaelmcfadyenscuba.info/viewpage.php?page_id=59 ,
  20. Fab, bad idea to use sugar soap on Al-that will actually corrode aluminium as will any alkali and sugar soap is a fairly strong one -back to the OP-what he's seeing is simply bit of Aluminium oxide formation from "water staining" , it is absolutely nothing to worry about-and as soon as he removes it back to bare Al it will simply re=oxidise anyway-Al is actually one of the most reactive metals in its pure form and the only reason we can use it is because it forms the oxide on the outside-anodizing is the industrial process used.
  21. trolled live salmon around quite a few times-they get sharked-i dont think salmon are an indicator of kings -rarely even pull kings out from underneath salmon schools.
  22. wouldnt be eating that raw , storing an ungutted fish on ice and then a cold fridge for a few days is fine but bleeding is essential and ice needs to be packed around the fish-if im killing kings or tuna for sushi i dont open the gut cavity but rather gut them via the gills-less exposure to air and bacteria
  23. yeah-got to watch artillery up at Singleton on a cadet camp many years ago-missiles sure would be spectacular. i did see a few fishos down on Crocodile about 4 years ago-but thats a rope in job as far as i can see.
  24. So others can point you in the right direction-which is what ive done-there is billions of words that have been written on the subject but Between the Lines puts it altogether in a straight forward way-and its not contingent on using Pakula lures , the principles work no matter what you are hanging out the back. oh-and BTW the man himself is incredibly helpful if you contact him-having said all that i would also point out that i have been involved in the capture of about 20 marlin and hookups on about 40 more-i think there are far more qualified folk than myself to write such an article.
