  1. My 2 cents, First ceph you are an expert at this!!!!!!!!! You have lost more gear into the water than i own and i own a lot! On a serious note all my reaserch has been no wd40, innox only!!!!!
  2. Sounds like an awsome day!!!!!! Ive found plenty of schools of bonnies feeding like this on the surface recently but no kings damn it!!!! We did have some great taylor schools in rushcutters 2 weeks ago which were great fun on 2 kilo bream gear and 10 gram slugs!
  3. Hey guys, I havent put up a report for a while because ... well.... i havent had anything much to report other than a few horse tailor, plenty of bonnies and an amberjack. So on sunday i thought it was time to try longy again as the harbour hasn't been giving me much love. I poked my nose round north head after catching 1 live squid and 8 yakkas to find the wind was already up and seeing as though it would be a slow trip to longy anyway i decided to throw out some marlin lures in the hope of attracting one of the small blacks that are around at the moment. We had one small run on the way there but with no hook up so im guessing it was just a little striped tuna or a bonnie or something as it didnt sound real convincing and i didnt see anything. When we got to longy we were greeted by about 30 boats and yaks, i thought i was the only one that new about that secret spot! When i lifted the lid on the livie tank i was greeted with a very white very dead squid that had one of his legs caught under the lid:ranting2: . Bugger, things didnt get much better in the next 30 minutes with hanging the bomb up on a pinicle and loosing it, to loosing 7/8 of the yakkas to little rats with no hookups. With the last one i knew it was small fish hitting them so i gave it literally about 2 minutes to swallow the damn thing and finnaly came up tight and boated one of the rats!!!! Then seeing as though the squid was dead it was stripped up into 5 pieces and the head. well the head took all of about 2 minutes to go off and my cousin boated the little guy you can see in the photo. The strips recieved the same treatment and when i realised just how hungry they were we stripped up the strips some more and ended up turning one medium sized squid into 7 more fish on the boat. No keepers but with my current form at least we got to hear some drags turn and get 9 kings on deck! Cheers Fishlexic
  4. I wish i could help.... im in the same damn boat. looked at animations you tube knot books the works and i still suck at them!!!!
  5. Nice session, Well done mate!
  6. Thats a horse of a whiting stewie! Great work
  7. Great fish cheech!!! I love catching hoo, its even better when you see them jump 6 foot out of the water onto your lure then screem off! Ill never forget how good it was to see my first hoo jump clear out of the water higher than the boat i was in!!!!
  8. I've tried every spot you can name from the harbour bridge to the colours and bluefin point off north head over the last month, spent plenty of time at the gap/colours area as well downrigging liveys of all sorts and pour mans and plastics and poppers...... I think im just having a really bad run. It will break soon though and it better break big when it does!!!!!
  9. Nice fish! Couldn't possibly have been a grey nurse.... Dont you know there are only 40 left total at the best fishing spots dotted up and down NSW!!!
  10. Nope you are not sucking, Its official. I AM! Ive done about 50 hours on the water in the last 3 weeks and bar about 3 rats i've caught stuff all! Saturday had 5 good sized squid and 5 yakkas in the livie tank by 730 and came home with a donut at about 3pm.... not even a rat. We caught a few horse tailor of about 4 kilos on bream gear with 6 lb braid which was good fun and saved the day a little but just had our downrigged squid picked off by small fish for no hook ups, we lost a few yakkas with no hook ups and we tried anchoring up and floating livies and strips and tried all the spots throught the harbour and mh that i know and still got squat!!!!! :1badmood: Something has got to give soon.
  11. Guys im no expert, but happy to give you a few trips, Sluggos will definitely catch you fish but not all the time. If you hae pulled up at a spot and seem fish on the sounder but had no takes within the first 5 or 10 minutes try something else, something smaller especially if your using the 12 inch sluggos. try more like 6 -9inches max for the average calibre of fish we have in the harbour at the moment. Also try poppers and other top water lures like the xrap walk if you really wanna catch them on the surface. But as with most fish they will go off the surface bite not long after the sun is up so the top water stuff usually gets a lot harder after 8 or 9 in the morning. Also if your just after a king any way you can get it and it doesnt have to be on a lure ill let you in on a big secret which you wont have heard from anywhere else in this site, Live or just killed fresh squid...... Pull up somewhere like one of the wedding cakes or other well known spot in the harbour and just soke a live/strip squid about 1/2 to 3/4 down and eventually you will get a king!!!! Try to use little or no weight and it will increase your odds somewhat. Third and finally, forget everything i've just said and what every other person has told you and just try some different things Because what works for kings one day might not work tomorrow. So try using skirts fo kings.... trust me it doesnt always work but it does sometimes. Use a pour mans down rigger if you dont have the real thing and toe some yakka's around, even toe them round on the surface if its early in the morning. The other next best thing to do is go out on a charter, the knowledge you get from one day on the water with someone who is more experienced than you will be more than worth the money! Lastly... Dont give up! Keep trying and it will happen. you think geting your first kingy is hard wait till you have a crack at your first marlin!
  12. How pumped do the little blokes look!!!! Thats great that you got them onto some kings even if they were only just unders. That seems to be the trend at the moment for a lot of people myself included, loosing a lot of baits and the ones that do hook up are only rats! Bring on the big guys!
  13. Nice session.... I cant wait til this years kids grow up to be hoods cause there is going to be millions of them...... We have been struggling to get our baits past all the little guys as well and havent pulled in a legal for a few sessions now. At least the little guys still put on a good account for them selves.
  14. Well done! They are quality fish for where you are fishing.... lots of little guys in rosey but not always easy to pick up some quality fish.
  15. Well one getting some larger models out of the little weedy guys!
  16. What a stomper king!!! well done.
  17. Cracker fish mate! well done!

    Jervis Bay

Hey guys, I've been wanting to fish jervis bay for a long time now but having never owned a boat i've never been able to convince any of my mates that do to head down there. Well i finally got of my ass and purchased one myself an its looking like i might finally be able to get down there in the next few weeks to give it a nudge. Having never fished there i'd love for anyone to give me a few tips. Ill mostly be targeting kings and squid for catching kings but im sure if the bonnies are on down there at the moment like they are in sydney i wont hesitate to put them down or the odd slimy or yakka. I also cant help but get the marlin of the rocks dvds out of my head so thats always an option to although i think ill try it from my boat instead. Its only a 4.8 center console so wont be heading to far offshore so if you have any spots you could recomend id be most appreciative! I was also wondering about where you can get the no fishing zone maps??? Cheers Fishlexic
  24. I second that opinion. I downrigged a live bonito round north head on friday with no luck but saw small sharks ( couldnt tell what they were) but more importantly saw flying fish, so if there is flying fish i would not be at all suprised to see marlin in there with them. Contrary to popular belief the cobalt blue water isnt always required for marlin and often the green stuff is where they will be hanging out... its more a case of where the food is and the fish will follow!
