  1. Hey guys, I havent had a flick at rossey since last time i was there with you mike but i went down and had a look yesterday and it was the clearest water i have seen in there for a loooooong time so im guessing there is a lot of fresh. It was pretty cold too. Some nice eddies at the usual spot as i was on the tide change. Was dead quiet though..... no top water action at all! on nights next week so ill see you down there.
  2. To keep bait jigs from tangling there are a few things you can do. the first is to cut a normal bait jig (6x hooks) into 3 and you will find it much more managable. The second thing is to make sure you hold onto the sinker while someone else takes the yakka's off the hook. The third is to use a sabiki jig rod if your problems are tanges away from actually catching the yakkas, like geting tangled with other rods in your car etc. I personally no longer use pilchards or any other bait for yakkas apart from bread. Makes for less to clean up and doesnt leave you with stinky bait hands. I find if the yakka's are there, there is simply no need. Just make sure you get fresh white bread. Not mulitgrain or rye or wholemeal just fresh full of sugar white bread! get one or 2 pieces and rub them between your hands into really small crumbs and watch them come swiming in. I prefer to only fish with single hooks on handlines as i like to strike my yakkers rather than let them hook them selves because the bread doesnt stay on the hook like squid does and also i get less tangles. hope that helps
  3. Exactly what i was thinking hodgey.... Id give my left nut to go fishing up there with those conditions. Even if it was tough you still got some great fish greg. Well done
  4. Hey guys, i've been trying to find a woolen jumper for a while to wear whilst out on the boat seeing as though thats one of the things we are told is good to wear on the water. I dont want anything fancy just a simple old blue woolen jumper.... or black or grey or what ever colour thats not going to show up fish guts to well, but buggered if i can find one. To give you an idea of what im after im sure ive seen ross hunter donning one of these little numbers. Just think of any salty old sea dogs or charter captain, thats what im after. If i look for wool jumpers on the net all you get is fancy pants designer stuff that ive got no interest in wearing or paying the rediculous price tag for and every disposal store ive been into looking for them only ever has polo fleece jumpers now instead. Anyone got any bright ideas??? Cheers Fishlexic

  6. What a beast!!!! no need for any more words.
  7. No good yesterday afternoon..... Conditions were amazing so im guessing either they werent there or the angler needed more skill working the plastics and hardbodies.......Probably more the latter id expect. Got there an hour after the tide due to work commitments but there was still some nice eddys. Ill crack it one day
  8. Im also keen to hear some other responses to this one. I know fishing the current between the dirty and clean is a good thing but i've heard mixed opinions about the dirty water in the upper reaches.... Im giving roseville a crack this arvo with plastics and hard boddies anyway so ill see how i go in the chocolate soup thats there at the moment.
  9. bennoz what do you do to the salmon to make it eddible? fish cakes or smoke it or something???

  14. Damn right greg, I really enjoy fishing with new people because there is always another way to skin a cat. Seeing and learning new techniques is so much better in person than just seeing it on instructional videos etc. Now if we can just bottle that sfactor sweat!
  15. Great stuff, Im hoping my first decent size jew might not be too far away to! Well done
  16. Cracker fish!!!! Well done on popping the cherry
  17. Sorry to hear guys. Its never an easy time.
  18. Pakula witch doctors are a great teaser, just make sure you dont run them on cable as the men in the grey suit's with the big pointy teeth sometimes take a liking to them. We had one sharked and it came up with teeth marks all through it and a tooth left in it. It made a huge bang when it hit. I have heard of people ripping the bollards out of the back of their boats when they have been sharked and after ours got hit i'd believe it! So run it on 200lb braid or something instead. Also ive used a bird with a daisy chain of squids behind them and that seems to work well. Birds can sometimes be a pain to get running right if there is whole string of them so i think i prefer one big bird up front then a daisy of squid. If you had a big crew you could run both but you would want to make sure you can get them out of the water quick smart if you hook up!
  19. What an incredible fish!!!!!
