  1. And great fighters to boot - well done @Fried Rice
  2. A true legend who was always willing to give and share advice - he has lots of time no to go fishing.
  3. Cheers Noel, very helpful
  4. Yes @slothparade - Wow - looks fantastic, think I need a master class
  5. I followed advice, from @jeffb5.8 and @Little_Flatty (thanks fellas), and bought a siseter 7.5 lt tub (biggest Big W had). But not sure what size hole to cut in it - I’m assuming it goes in the top and not side. Is bread the best “bait” to put in it ? I’m also assuming it needs a sinker or weight to keep it on the bottom? - do I need a float on it like a crab pot? (I put 3/8 holes around sides to aid water flow and help it sink. Any other advice gratefully received. Bob
  6. Send me a pm if you want to get out, @GordoRetiredand I are heading out on Jan 10 if you want to join us.
  7. Thanks Rob, once the day is allocated to fishing, it’s only a matter of where and when.
  8. Yep, that’s my plan Chris - Tues / Wed on Kingies, (hope the squid are easy).
  9. Gordo, give me a pm and we’ll organise an outing and smash ‘em, I’m getting at least a dozen each outing at present in the Colo/ Hawkesbury.
  10. Thanks for sharing Pete. My first ever job was as a shirt salesman on the ground floor at Gowings, I’ve followed their ups and downs in a difficult and ever changing retail market and great to hear that an Aussie business has taken on another ailing Aussie business. Gowings we’re always marketed as the “complete mens store”, buy a suit, get your Sox, underwater, have a feed and, moving from underground store to level 3 to get a haircut and shave. They really looked after the ex- servicemen and many blokes used to go their to have a cuppa upstairs and catch-up and share war stories.
  11. Well done @SaltyGreek, all the best with your HSC results and future career plans. Hooking and landing the “grey ghost” is certainly addictive.
  12. A great feed at Newport Arms and some great bands there.
  13. Many thanks - got one at Big W today - what size hole would you suggest for poddies (I assume it is in the lid, not sides.)
  14. Well organise it when you come Neil
  15. Haven’t heard of a “Sistemer” container - is this a brand or style?
  16. Pete, Waza is “the man” - it’s going to be great to see reports of the fish his talents produce - can’t wait. Glad you’re on the mend.
  17. Go get ‘em Noel, great fun on light gear.
  18. Yep, love that rod, has great action in 1-3 kg.
  19. Reports of strong winds and rough seas changed plans for a day chasing kings in Sydney Harbour. Plan B was to hit the Colo for Bass, as last trip was spectacularly successful, with 40 Bass caught and released. I took Rosie, my 4 Legged buddy with me on her first trip on the boat (Dogs not welcome in National Park at Roseville boat ramp) - being a Labrador Retriever pup, I did well to keep her in the boat as she wanted to dive in and retrieve every fish I caught. For those who haven’t caught Bass before, they have razor sharp gill spikes and really hurt if they get you, so she wasn’t allowed to “play”. I fished for 2 hours and boated over a dozen fish, biggest going 43cm, could have stayed longer and caught more, but didn’t seem like a lot of point as “catch and release”. Lures were pink and purple “Feral Cat” deep divers. Black and purple spinner baits and 38mm black prawn blade vibes and of course, ever necessary ‘nana.
  20. Well done @Wokatok, Mako’s are great eating (skinned and bled to get rid of ammonia taste).
  21. Cheers for the warning. Not sure where we’ll go yet, but might try offshore for some blue spots and then headlands for kings - bit depends on the seas.
