  1. Thank you, currently making the most of the good weather, clean water and the free time before it gets busy early next year
  2. Thank you, lots of time frustration and effort to get them but it’s worth every minute of it imo
  3. Thank you, i may or may not have planned my fishing trips better than my essays but I definitely spent an equal amount of time fishing and studying
  4. Thanks! It’s been pretty fun so far, tye jewies are a bonus
  5. After a very busy winter with football and yr12 the opening to spring and onwards led to some cracking sessions on the most addicting (and patience testing) fish in the estuary, that of course being the jewfish. The completion of school and football for 2022 meant that I had a lot of time to spend chasing silver and I'd dare say that the disheartening winter, losing a monster and the dozens of eels paid off for some of my recent catches. September-October (breaking the curse) Should've been studying for my maths test but I was confident in myself so I decided to treat myself to an afternoon fish. I did not have the intentions of chasing jew but as I headed down to the spot the thought of them lurking in the area sparked some (very little) hope of hooking one. It had been almost 2 years since I landed my first on a lure so I thought I was cursed but after only 3 casts I had hooked into something bigger than the perch I intended to target. After a 5 minute battle on the 1-4kg rod, I had a nice jewie at my feet. "finally, the curse is broken". I tried this spot again mid hsc to treat myself to completing English forever and landed myself my new pb jew on lure at 84cm and then a tiny 31cm model the next day. All fish were landed on the light gear which made for some very intense but fun fights listening to the 2500 reel sing whilst trying to steer them away from the structure. November (new grounds) The first thing I did after finishing the HSC was plan a fishing trip out on the boat with the goal of landing a jew out of a new spot that I had been scoping out. It all started on the Friday where I went out squidding with my mate Adrain. Unfortunately, he was unable to land his first squid (he is now fully committed to catching one) however luck was on my side where I was able to land 4 in a matter of 10 minutes. Perfect sized arrow squid and plenty of them to see me out for the next month of jew fishing. The next day I headed out early with @JamoDamoon the tinny where we took a gamble, testing ourselves in unfamiliar ground. We stuck to the plan and by 6:45am the rods were out loaded with a mix of squid strips, mullet fillets and 1 with a whole arrow squid. Right on the change, the 6500 with the whole arrow squid screamed, taking a solid run upstream towards the structure. I steered the fish round the boat and saw the solid slab of silver drift into the net. Landing that fish had to of been one of my most satisfying catches of the year. Throughout the rest of the month I managed to land multiple other soapies ranging from a mere 28cm to mid 60s whilst fishing for whiting in other new and unfamiliar spots. So far this year I’ve landed 13 Jews and counting which well exceeds my yearly goal of at least 5. The next few months before uni and football will hopefully be as fruitful as the last few and hopefully I can tick off some new PBs and some new species. Thank you for the read 👍
  6. Gerringong boat ramp is probably the worst boat ramp i have seen. Unless the sea is flat, the ramp becomes to difficult and dangerous to use as there’s no break wall or anything to protect it. There’s also no wharf or a safe spot to park your boat whilst you park the car and trailer unless you don’t mind driving your boat up the ramp or onto the rocks…..which i don’t think people with fibreglass boats would want to do
  7. I’ve personally have had more success with squid that’s been kept cool in a fridge after it’s been caught. I don’t do this for long though I’ve only kept them in a fridge for maximum 10 hours. But couple day old frozen squid will still work as long as the squid is still white and not pinkish.
  8. I would usually be down fishing both the crooked river and 7 mile beach this time of year but due to complications we weren’t able to go. Off 7 mile beach I find a lot of the gutters that form are usually further down south along the beach past the bend and we usually pull out good whiting and bream there on beachworms. I think the last time the crooked river was landlocked was in 2017 and I’ve found a pattern that it closes for a while about every 4 years. Live poddy mullet in the deeper channels past the road bridge do well on flathead there and live nippers usually do well for the whiting but because of the river being shut for so long it might’ve changed things around a bit especially with all the rain too.
  9. tried at gunnamatta bay next to the baths and managed to catch 1 small calamari....didn't know you could get them off the ferry wharf though
  10. Awesome fish well done once again 👍
  11. Awesome when a plan comes together! Great fish well done 👍
  12. Jeez there’s some great feeds there 🤩
  13. Went again today…..got bricked by another EP, pulled hooks on another big fish and landed this 56cm salmon
  14. It is closed season for them after all so I had to legally release it anyways but I’ve heard they taste pretty good too
  15. Thank you…..yeah I was wondering what the average size for them around the Georges was but like you said it will probably be a while and lots of smaller fish between this fish and my next PB
  16. Tried a new spot within a few minutes ride from my house today with some plastics. Rode down to the trail and hid my bike in the bush, then walked down the trail to the spot. "Looks good" I thought to myself. Nice steep rocky drop off and a bit of structure to flick at with a lot of current pushing through. First cast, nothing. Second cast, couple hops off the bottom and then a solid hit. I struck, feeling the heavy, head shaking fish trying to wrap me around the kalona, but managed to keep it away before getting a first glimpse of fish. Backed the drag off as I lead the fish around onto the beach where I was able to land him. Stoked to land my first EP after only my second time targeting them and wow, they're fun! Got a couple quick photos and measured him, coming in at 41cm before releasing it, where it swam off strongly.
  17. I usually use light running sinker rigs (10g sinkers, size 4 hook) with a live herring. Caught and lost some big flathead doing this. I’m starting to experiment with slide baiting….the method that jamo mentioned in the comment above
  18. I don’t really use top of the line stuff and catch myself plenty of good fish whether I’m using bait or lures. Expensive gear is nice but it’s not a necessity in my opinion.
  19. School id wasn’t left on purpose but I’m not too worried about it too much. I was meant to get my phone back from the shop today but water got through a crack at the back which is causing issues...hopefully it survives
  20. He mustve seem either my snap or instagram story...but yeah we were so hyped that we got so many runs it was a lot of fun
