  1. Now thatโ€™s interesting mixed catch . Welll done
  2. Decided to head out for a fish off Broken Bay in the morning with plans to head north chasing snapper. Forecast was good - seas less than one metre, wind varied up to 10knots but building in the afternoon. Left Woy Woy ramp at 7am, forecast seemed accurate, calm seas and little wind, so drifted over a couple of reefs south of McMasters Beach area, as nothing specific showing up on sounder. Straight away got hit, but a sergeant baker comes up. More throwbacks followed - small snapper, rock cod etc. Wind became challenging with gusts blowing up to 15knots, seemed forecast may not have been quite accurate, but we did manage to get two snapper (40-45cms) before deciding to try for some flathead, although after hearing of trawlers recently in the area wasn't expecting much. After trying a couple of the usual spots around 50m, with no luck, with a change in wind direction we then got some fish on board - total of 10 flathead 40-58cms. Should mention an interesting situation, and we all may have been there - At one stage, 3 rods were hooked up, all with weight. However, all three got tangled, so after pulling in one good flathead, holding onto other lines by hand whilst working on tangle, we eventually had two large flathead on board and then found the final catch to be a large banjo shark. So, all in all, a good day out. With the winds building a couple of hours later than forecast and sea anchor struggling, decided time to head home.

  21. Been a while since writing a report .. Like most , usual offshore fishing has slowed due to COVID. Living on the Central Coast and lucky to have water at the backyard, I've previously tried a few times fishing without much success. Last Thursday, I decided to have a break in the sun by the water at around 3pm, so yes also grabbed the rod and some bait, but not expecting much. Tide was full and about to turn, with no wind. Bait consisted of frozen Flathead guts from the freezer which was going to be for making up some berley .. nothing special. Also grabbed some remains of cooked mud crab just to clean out the freezer. After thawing the bait and throwing in the mud crab remains, rigged up with some fish roe, cast in, and just placed rod with bail open, whilst I sat down. Took 5-10 minutes for the line to take off, and in came a nice bream (approx 40cm). Biggest bream Id seen for some time. After removing the hook (still with bait in tact), another cast with same bait, and to my surprise, before I could sit, the line went and a bream of similar size was brought in. What can I say ... Looks like going forward I have to keep the berley a regular activity, and throw in a line at the right time ๐Ÿ™‚ Everyone stay safe in these challenging time ...
