  1. Great report and what a day. Maria will be looking forward so much more to fishing with the new electric .. well done
  2. Great report and photos .. I am keen this year to try my luck at getting some snapper. I'm on the central coast, and head out off Broken Bay, so will have to spend some time to find the grounds. Fingers crossed I can put some snapper pics up, hopefully even something close in size to your pics 🙂 .. Cheers Warren
  3. Great bag of fish .. gotta be happy with that considering your uncertainty on the weather .. Well done !
  4. After all the weeks of high seas, followed by the heavy rain and flood water in Broken Bay, finally got a day with great outlook. Called around to see if my mate Gil was available (this would be his first after a fall off a ladder back in September 2020, when he received injuries), and he was given the go ahead, so was great to have my mate out fishing again. Got on the water around 8am, and headed out and off to the flathead ground. Wind was up at first, needing the use of a sea anchor, and fishing was slow. The wind calmed, and we started getting fish. Ended up with 14 good size flathead 40-63cms, before the wind came up again, so decided to head home early around 12:30. All in all, a great morning out . Good catch, and so good to see my mate on the water again after 8 months.
  5. New year's Eve , so decided I needed to wet a line for the last day of 2020. Bit of a late start, but at least no queues are Woy Woy ramp. Forecast was not good, but regardless the plan was to head to 40mt marks out of Broken Bay for flathead, and if no luck come back in around Pittwater. Well, unfortunately the weatherman was correct for once .. swell 1.5mtrs plus from the south east with 6 second period, but wind not too bad around 10+ knots I expect. This wasn't going to be very comfortable for sure. But I stuck to the plan (yeah bit crazy .. I can hear you say) , and headed out slowly not getting over 10 knots .. Been out in a lot worse I thought, so decided to continue and after setting up for the drift and putting out the sea anchor, dropped first line in around 10am, which was hit with a double hook up of two keepers .. a 40cm and a 50cm. So thought this might be a good day , apart from having to watch every wave, and getting just a little bounced around. Seas came up a bit more as did the wind, so after being knocked around for a couple of hours, feeling a bit worn out, having 7 keepers (38-50cms) and having the leather jackets move in (lost two rigs), decided bagging out can wait for another day and started the slow trip back in, riding and watching the waves. On way in, lost all power to sounders GPS etc .. bit of water I expect .. oh well , something to look at today .. Sorry no pictures, I cleaned and filleted before thinking. Happy New Year to all .. Hope 2021 is a good one .. Tight Lines...
  6. Now that's a nice feed .. well done . .enjoy
  7. Sussex Inlet .. love that place .. Spent many younger years during May holidays when they had fishing comp. Caught many big tailor in the basin, lot of blackfish, and list goes on .. all good times getting around in the old putt putt supplied with the accommodation 🙂 . Been back in recent years and still love the place. Big flathead .. as you say at least you know they are there .. just keep trying .. good luck and enjoy.
  8. Hi Rookie I was up Old Bar way before Christmas, and river was very brown after rain .. My brother lives at Pampoolah and we usually get a lot of mudcrabs, but this year has been very slow with only a few taken since October. Tried many spots, up back creeks, on main river .. not sure why the reason. So can't really recommend specific areas. If kayaking, at high tide I put the kayak in at the end of Mudbishops rd (runs between airstrip and caravan park), where you can then get to the sand flats etc. even paddle around Cababge Tree Island. Good luck and enjoy
  9. Great catch .. and a meal to die for .. Well done
  10. The smile on your young fella says it all .. enjoy
  11. May have been a slow start, but the picture says it all .. well done !
  12. Haven't tried Pittwater recently, but yes offshore has been slow recently. Will be getting out again soon .. and hope for something to write back about 🙂
  13. Very nice fish .. and the steaks Yummo .. well done
  14. Even though under size, as you say good fun with the kingies and good to share with the boys ...
  15. Now that's a good catch of whiting .. and good to see the fisheries were around checking .. except I expect fish may not have been alive and able to be put back 😞
  16. Well done .. what a great story .. and final results of a good catch .. a Happy Birthday and a Merry Christmas .. what else can you ask for ..
  17. Well done .. Nothing like a nice kingie, and the meal spread looks good ...
  18. After not being able to get out fishing for some time due to travelling, and then seas/weather not cooperating, decided time to get the boat wet so headed out for a late run yesterday (had visitors leaving so didn't launch till 10am 😞 ) to get some flathead . Launched at Woy Woy, wind was up a little more than expected around 15+ knots however it was to come down, so when I got out to 60mts around 11am, sea anchor deployed. Fishing was very slow, tried a couple of spots to get two fish on board. Decided to move in closer to around 50mtrs area, and around midday wind dropped off with next to no drift. Wind eventually picked up and I moved to some 40mt marks, to pick up another 3 fish. This was to be a short trip due to an appointment to get to , so packed up around 2:00, but still headed in with feed (5 flathead around 40-45cm), and boat is ready for the summer .
  19. Well Yowie, regardless of the idiot on the water, still not a bad feed for an early start. Lets hope the idiot gets found.
  20. Thanks .. Yes out there with Zoran a mate from Castle Hill.. The 25 Bertie is Gil's , I have a YaltaCraft 555HC … So we alternate in which we take out .. Though I go to the boat ramp and don't have to remove flybridge steering 🙂 .. Might have to catch you at Long reef some time … Cheers
  21. Hi Raiders Long time watching of Fish Raider, joined last year and first post today. Originally from Ryde, lived in Castle Hill for 30+ years when married, and now live at Horsfield Bay on the Central Coast and working on fishing locations around the area. I have fished all my life, originally introduced by my uncle (professional fisho) and spending holidays with him at the Spit, Clontarf, in Sydney and heading out each day at 5am to pick up his fish traps in Middle Harbour, back by 9am, then spending the day catching bream, leatherjacket and the like rowing around in his tender. Have tried many forms of fishing over the years, both boat and land based .. all a challenge and enjoyable. More recent years, get out wide in the boat after bigger challengers - kingies, blue-eyed, … and being retired just keep an eye on the weather to plan the next trip 🙂 . Could tell you more, but might have to keep that to another time .. So that's a quick Hi .. Cheers Warren
  22. Hi … (first time posting … hope it is interesting) After a big trip to Brown's Mountain (Thursday, June 11) from Woy Woy Bay with lack of results, Gil decided he needed a feed of flathead. So as the weather was looking good for Tuesday, June 16 (NW <10knots , Swell <1m) I was given a call to join .. which never takes much to convince me. Forecast was for wind to come up in the afternoon, so thought a few hours fishing would be good. So all packed up and ready to go, headed around to Gil's at 7:30am (Note: One challenge each time we go out in the 25ft Bertie, is the tide under Woy Woy Train Bridge, but Gil has it sorted to within 100mm clearance .. always interesting). So we got going around 8am (tide not quite as low as expected) after removing the flybridge steering wheel, giving us plenty of clearance .. 100mm or less. Well, the weather gods didn't quite get things right, wind in morning was more like 15-20+ knots, requiring sea anchor and heavy weights for fishing, but Bertie is very stable so we decided to stay. Fishing was slow, and we were about to go inside, then I hooked a nice keeper 45cm+ (we tend to throw back anything under 40cm) . So decided to stay fishing, and when Gil caught another couple of similar size, seemed like the right decision. Although usual marks were not productive, we moved around to find some fish and eventually came home with nine flathead and one whiting, so a good feed. Gil 6 + Whiting, and I got 3. Fish of the day I should mention was a big female at 75cm (yes by Gil) , and being a good breeder and fat, we decided photo, kiss and return to make more babies was best. All in all again a nice day on the water .. till next time .. Cheers Wazza
  23. Heh Zoran Great write-up .. I think you said it all. Slow fishing .. but always better to be on the water. Gil's boat is a 25 Bertie .. very solid sea boat , though bit slow at times .. just have to sit back and have a beer and a snooze at times 🙂 . Like you, we headed south with big expectations, left the land fog, and then into the sea fog for some time. With the wind behind us on the way south, and then when the wind turned it was a similar run back to Woy Woy Bay with the wind behind us , about a 3 hour run . Strange day at browns - lost rigs, bait bitten off on way down it seemed , and no fish to write home about. Till next time ... Cheers Wazza
