  1. i think i just found my answer to the lowrance sounder.... https://teamcolibri.blogspot.com/2019/02/choosing-transducer-3-in-1-or-2-in-1.html Now the big question... garmin or lowrance lol
  2. so researching the new sounder for the boat and bloody hell.... trying to learn/understand these sounders and transducer and its confusing me as i want to try get it right the first time. My main fishing is probably going to be inshore (30 - 60m) and when conditions right i might go to the peak or to the humps so they are max 100m Deep so i am thinking i dont really need a low frequency sounder and the medium chirp probably the best option. With the lowrance 3 -in -1 transducer im trying to make sense of the frequencies. Are they saying they have the following frequencies: 200khz and 83khz and then a high chirp and a medium chirp The Garmin GT51m seems to be a medium chirp band which is good.... but does this mean it only does this one band and it cannot do the single 83mhz and 200mh frequency ? hope someone can clear it up.

  4. So i got the following Shimano Jewel Rod thinking i would use it for chasing snapper before i began researching on snapper and how to catch. Reason i chose this was because i though oh i need to have be able to handle heavy snapper leads to get the baits to the bottom.. but after doing some reading it seems not a good choice for a dedicated snapper rod. so this poses the question... would this rod be just a good general purpose boat rod? Could i use it for jigging maybe (never jig fished in my life). Current reel on the rod is a Nasci 4000 with 20lb mono. When the funds allow will go the Shimano Ocea offshore (specs below) probably with a 5k stradic reel for my dedicated snapper rod
  5. What is everyone's opinions with regards to squid lights. I have heard they are valuable for squid at night but i will admit i don't really target squid (yet) but are they useful for catching yakkas at all ? Reason i ask is was thinking of getting one installed on the new boat before it gets delivered. Also what would be the best colour... I know that squid like the green but if i will mainly use for yakkas in morning is blue better ? or is it better to save the money and put to a better sounder ??
  6. for the last 6 months i took Mondays off work due to this covid thing and i i said every monday will go out and fish. i got about 5 days of fishing on Monday as the weather was just crap lol. Today is my first day back to 5 days a week and of course it turns out to be a nice calm day. Always the way isnt it

  8. Thanks for all the tips guys. Deposit was paid yestefday for the boat and the new owner said will pick it up next sat after they transfer the money mid week. Now the long long longggg wait till next april for new boat to arrive.
  9. Joh D you are right about the pictures.... its amazing what backdrop will do for your car or boat.. first pic was one i originally used then took boat to near water and second pics i think looks better
  10. PM sent with the boatsales add link
  11. Thanks for all the tips. another thing when it comes to the actual sale of the boat how do you do that. do you write a document thats say i am selling the following boat ( with description or pic) for XXX dollars to whoever... with a paid daid deposit etc and get both me and buyer to sign ? and would you go with them to the bank and get them to make a bank cheque or just use transfer online ?
  12. So with the current boat and my future boat just started to master the driving on and using the boat catch they come with, but as most my fishing is always done solo sometimes i fluff the distance from the pontoon and don't want to take the jump off the side gunnel so have to crawl over the front, throw a leg over the boar rail onto the port or which and carefully haul myself down. So am thinking i need to put a small step or a platform onto the trailer post to give me something sturdy and surefooted as i get off. anyone done this on their boat... or any ideas what best way to do it is? saw the following but i will have to fold the front drawbar on new boat for storage so wont work i think oh and new boat is a Stabi 2050 Supercab .... due april 2021
  13. yeah i did .... and they were not very keen to be honest to do a trade. i asked a few times and always got the sam response of in current climate with the extended wait times for boat deliveries, being summer time u wont have a problem selling
  14. Time to redo my photos haha, guess will be doing that on the weekend
  15. Hi all so any tips for selling my boat...i think the boat i am selling is a quality product ( 6 month old surtees 540 workmate hardtop ) but just want to know how to approach it. i have listed on gumtree and facebook which is already getting muppets offering silly offer and am waiting for my boatsales add to come online and hopefully i get more serious enquiries. With regards to photos what should i concentrate on pics wise? what about the price point....do you put it a little higher than what you like and leave room for the negotiation ? would be good to see how people approach it as first boat i am selling. PS: anyone want to buy a nice boat for xmas , or if you know someone who is in for one send em my way. Case of beer or a nice scotch if yuor lead is good PPS: selling to get a bigger boat .... i suffer from severe boat envy problems
  16. haha im in the same boat.... hopefully this summer slight thread hijack but when i go into the local Fish monger i see some kingfish they have on the ice and they are no way 65cm.... these things look like sub 55cm. do commercial fisherman have no size limits ?
  17. Hi all....was just after what people have or recommend for a mobile phone holder for their boat. Are they any out there that can clamp on to a grabrail...or do the suction cup type ones on windshield work fine?
  18. Im open to all forms of tips as a lot of great advice on here...its invaluable i think i need to go catch my own yakkas in the morning for bait.... i kept these ones as still had bait, was using slimeys but from a previous trip out so were not fresh. I know they say fresh is best. I also started using bigger triangular pieces as i always used a small strip about finger width and maybe 7 or 8cm long. Interesting on the bottom dropper length... mine were probably 60cm or so... next time will use one 1m long. i usually put 2 paternoster rods out so will do one extra long. I had a snapper rig.... i was using a ball sinker ( 28g ) and was down to a a snelled with a pilchard like you said and thre out the back of the boat but it looked like it just sank to the bottom and not really floating, tried a 9g ball sinker and that was too light for the current and depth i was in i think. with this rig do you cast out.... let is sink and hit bottom wind in the repeat or do you cast and leave bail arm open and let line feed out ? i do have the sea anchor and some times was drifting at 1km others 2km.... wind was all over the place. Below are some screenshots of the sounders.... would you say they are bait balls or maybe the slimeys + yakka i caught... as they were all caught on the paternoster rig. Finally those yellow lines right on the bottom .... are they bugger fish or just somethign on the bottom the sounder picks up Again Gone Fishing thanks heaps for all the tips .... greatly appreciated
  19. So technically i achieved my goal.. well semi sort i did.... i got myself a snapper, but about 28.5cm so back she went to grow a little more to catch her next time. Was a nice morning and a easy run out to the mark where i was going to fish and was nice until about 9am when the wind just decided to come one strong... stayed for another hour then packed it up and headed home. got a nice little mixed bag today so was pretty happy... i think that is a PB flatty for me, solid fella he was. so on the pic of my drifts supposedly where the red X is someone on navionics labelled this as reef. it looked like a desert to me on the sounder lol... and the red squiggly line is where i landed the flathead. To me that would mean a sandy bottom, maybe clay mud ? there green line is where i got the Morwong and the tailor/slimey/yakka. so could that have possible been the edge of the rocks/reef ? Also i caught 2 fish like th ebottom pic... not sure what they were, are they nanagai... they were about 15 - 20cm long ... I could not find them on my fisheries chart so threw em back to be safe. anyone know what they might have been and is there a size limit Also interesting only one rod was going off. The tailor i caught on my pillie floating out the back but i had 2 rods with a paternoster rig. On one i decided instead of doing the normal way i do my paternoster which is to do droppers where u make a circle and wrap the lines together then feed it through (forgot the name of this style) i used a swivel between each dropper and then made the line about 25-30cm long to the hook. the other way would only have about 10cm to the hook im thinking that the longer line made the bait more presentable and floated out better maybe down in the water....hence all the fish on that rod. All in all a good day was had... now the bad part of fishing... off to clean up the boat
  20. My local fishing shop owner gave me a mark where they got some snapper and morwong last week and tomorrow planned my day off...weather is looking good and swell and wind low. All is ready and will hit the mark given which is off kurnell lighthouse hopefully as sun just coming up. Will be drifting around in about 50m Will have my paternotser rigs... a light weight running sinker rig with a pillie to float down and also one rod with a squid put out the back. Wish me luck fellows raiders.... hope i report back with good news tomorrow.
  21. Does it look similar to this...i have some aswell on inside. I wonder is that marine66 safe for nyalic coating??
  22. Has anyone ever tried tolling a soft plastic like a 9inch sluggo i saw on the weekend a fishing show and they guy was trolling a 9inch soft plastic on a 2oz jighead and it was getting smashed by cobia and Spanish makeral (was up way north in qld). that was interesting and may try it one day
  23. So since they say to go for crabs in months that contain the letter 'R' i went out and bought a few crab traps. Threw them out at towra point on sat but nothing, so was wondering if there were any secrets. I threw the traps on a sand patch between the weeds, had half a slimey (frozen not fresh) and was in about 1.5m depth. Is it just a you win someose some day with crabs or are there any secrets. everyone says mullet for bait, and throw where weeds are. Is water depth a factor to comsider? Also day was abit of a waste ...caught 2 pinkies, a 34cm flattie (all went back) and the same port jackson shark twice at mollie point. Highlight of day was driving boat straight onto the trailer first go and looking like a pro yay!!
  24. Thanks for the info guys.... some good informative info i have to consider. I guess u spend 4-5k fitting out the motor amd mounts etc might as well spend a few hundred more and get a known quantity battery. I saw the century 140ah battery is 41odd kg. What do they say...you learn something new every day
  25. no expert on this but from what i have read you brain spike the fish and then bleed it straight away and put on ice slurry ( which is best) or ice blocks and seawater. supposed to keep the fish in better shape. google Ikijime kingfish and will give heaps of info.... the Japanese even run a small wire through the spine of fish. yet to test any of this out as yet to catch my first legal kingfish where about in Harbour you catch said kingfish and what bait... was it a yakka or squid
