  1. Just wondering where i can get Slimy Mackerals in Botany bay. I have the no dramas getting the Yakkas in the morning from where the tug boats park (tried for the squid near kurnell but that is really hard, only caught 1 in 4 attempts lol)... but where can you find Slimeys in the Bay? Also can you still get yakkas when the sun comes up around the tug boat area.... or does it get harder after first light?
  2. Wow that is a nice catch Now i know no one gives away their spots but can u get snapper like that not far away from botany heads . seeing you leave from botany ramp and its only 25m depth one could deduce you were possible not too far out from the heads. Reason i ask i mainly fish by myself, and jusy recently got the boat and still getting confidence outside past heads. Im sure boat can handle outside as its a surtees 540 hardtop. I was hoping you can get snapper like that close im the reefs or does one have to vemture miles off the coast to get snapper like that
  3. Just got my etoll statement amd coming back from the boat dealer out blacktown way took the m2 and lane cove tunnel. $23 bucks for m2 amd $10.30 for lane cove....jesus do they charge us like a truck? Last time im doing that, will be taking the slow road next time. Anyone else find out the hard way??
  4. So still learning the sounder and have a few questions about the below.... this was from the fish below So i take it is it a sand bottom as i was anchored off mollineux point, but cause it is yellow means sand ( red is rock i have read) - on the downscan and also the Sonar what is that constant line at about 4m mark? - if i am anchored and not moving if the bottom undulating due to the option of the boat going up and down ? - the long squigly lines at the bottom, they are not fish, if they are no what would it be? i tried googling and watching videos but hard to figure it out. Learnt a lesson yesterday on my fish.... knots are important. I got smashed by a big kingie yesterday, would have been my fist legal one but my knot on the swivel failed. i took the easy option and the top of the swivel i did a palomar knot and the other did a uni knot.... i suspect the palomar knot failed as the end was all squicgly and looks like it came undone .... this was 50lb leader i was using. Atleast me braid to leader knot held up
  5. So once the crazyness calms down i wamt to venture out of botany heads and try for flathead and other fish inshore. I know they say go for flatheads at the run in or run out tide ( not even sure which is better) but i assume this applies to bayd and estauries.... but what about inshore/offshore, do tides actually make a difference to when u should target fish?
  6. Took the new boat out for a quick spin and to see how to launch and retrieve amd first time i have run into a bait ball in botany. Was near the drums..... and didnt have a single rod or handline with me haha. So the big arches are the good fish...what u think they might have been? Also how would i fish this...i heard u throw a metal lure to sides of the baitball and wind fast.... but do you let it sink a little first or just as hits surface wind like mad?
  7. Enjoy watching your Vids BBF.... out of curiosity how long do you guys stay in the on spot... for example on that day how long were u there for? you obviously burley up as well do you?? any other things you caught on the day?? i always get frustrated after 30 minutes of nothing happening and move on from my spots, i guess its my inexperience, and patience is an important part of fishing i would say
  8. So with the directive to work from home coming in i managed to find a few minutes in between the emails and stuff i needed to do and decided i needed somewhere to clean the fish at my Parents place.... it was a little hard to do it in in a bucket sitting on a milk crate ... so knocked this up. I have put 2 castor wheels it on wheels so i can wheel it around, just not sure if i will put a tap on it or just use garden hose. Also need to catch some fish to clean on there too
  9. Trading the boat in and wanted to take my spare wheel off from the trailer.... managed to get one bolt off but the other one no chance. took me using a 750mm breaker bar but even then the bolt was seized and i actually sheared the u clamp, and managed to get the wheel off. so my question is, come the new boat when i put the spare wheel back do i put some grease on the threads of the U-bolt ir is there some special product to apply so it does not seize in the future. bugger me if i was stuck on the road. Is there anything else to apply it too as well... wheel nuts ??
  10. Just wondering if anyone here has fished or fished JD reef down south? Picking up the slightly bigger boat in a few weeks and am looking forward to venturing out of the heads now and have read about the artificial reefs. I tried doing a searching but couldn't find much about what the fishing is like down there. I just want to catch a legal sized king, got my second ever kingie since i got my boat.... and again was 63cm so back she went
  11. Kingie Chaser that must be the guy i dropped a few weeks bay while in the bay. I was with a lot of other boats near the artificial reefs in yarra bay and i think he took my prawn on my small bread rod. got him up to the side of the boat and was trying to net him (was by myself) but went under boat and broke my line. I am taking a day of leave friday to go fish ,looks like a nice day so hopefully i catch something.... obviously a kingie will be nice like my first outing, but will be happy catching anything lol
  12. So just wondering am i wasting my time by going out this week for a fish in botany bay....Looking at the forecast the wind is going to be mid to high 20 km per hour and a southerly and a pretty goof chance it may rain. does it have an impact on fishing ? obviously i may be wrong but the wind impacts comfort as it may get a little choppy in the bay, and i think i have read after it rains water is not the best from runoff and stuff like that.... but it is a waste of time or still worth a shot going out ?
  13. Crap Ordered my reel Wednesday night and cost me 69K points and now i see it is only 41K point... on phone to them to see if i can get some points back
  14. So i stumbled onto a fishing hack of sorts. ... i will try explain without naming companies. So a big aussie airline with a red tail on their planes allows you to buy shimano fishing products using their frequent flyer points. For example they have the following: - stradik FL 2500 = 60600 points - Saragosa SW6000 - 69400 points - stradik ci4 4000 - 71000 points now if u also go to their website you can apply for a credit card which gives a bonus 60000 points if you spend $2k in the first three months and the card fee is only $49 bucks for first year. So in theory for the $49 bucks annual fee plus all the money u spend after the first few months which will also accumulate points you can order a new reel. pretty good deal me thinks. Thought i would share as just about to order my reel.... now need to figure out what rod to get, and how to catch fish
  15. So am looking to give port hacking a crack some day soon with the boat. After the last few trips into port Botany not being that great (very different to my maiden voyage) i was wondering which is the best sport to launch for port hacking. looking at the RMS site they say a lot of the ramps around the hacking area you need to be cautious as water is shallow when low tide, is it easier to just launch from foreshore boat ramp and cruise to port hacking? and what are the recommended spots to have a fish in as per the below map.
  16. great posts you have pickles.... always seem to catch awesome fish, im jealous A little off topic are you the same "pickles" from the old Ls1.com.au forum and also lately the ozaudi forum... you have an RS3?? If yes it seems we have the same good taste in cars and sports haha
  17. Went well.... launching wasn't that hard as my cousin was with me and he made me do it all myself with ropes as eventually will fish solo. found the retrieve was a little trickier as have to get used to the boat at slow speed. Learnt a boat does not react instantly like a car does and things seem to be delayed.
  18. Itching to get out again, hopefully this weekend if i find the time. Boat is a stacer 499 sea master... already feel like i need a bigger boat, a little bit envious of the nice hardtops that go by.
  19. Picked up my new boat on Tuesday and was time to take it out for some fun. Having never owned one before this was the first time i was a skipper so with the help of my experienced cousin we manage to set said without dramas and was time to catch some fish. Headed out into the bay early... just had a variety of baits and did a few drifts from the oil drums hoping for an elusive kingie...... , was sick of getting donuts off the rocks and had to step it up bit so i bought a boat... as you do (crazy i know). We got a few legal sized flathead and my cousin gave me a little stick for him catching the first ever fish in my new boat... but all was good... at least we caught something. then headed off to see what all the other boats were doing at molineux point but not much going there so we moved near the wharf where the fuel lines are near kurnell... second cast my cousin lands a monster of a bream just on 40cm and we were stocked..... what was interesting was the kingfish that was trailing the bream as it was being reeled into the boat. got a few more flathead after that too. So the good folk at global tackle told me that the cooks river bridge was doing ok for kingies so thought lets have a crack there...... after a few casta i managed to pull a 38cm bream too... boy the big bream were out and about today. then it happened...... My rod which just had a cuttlefish head on it got 2 or three good nibbles then something nice latched on... i strike and think oh no could this be it.... had a few good runs and im thinking yes yes yes a kingfish..... then i see the come close to the boat and i am just dying to reef the thing in the boat but luckily my cousin was there telling me if it wants to run let it run... don't fight it just keep tension on your line. Finally its in the boat and im thinking this thing going to taste great for dinner, i measure and 63cm ..... for a wee second the mind goes its only 2cm...... but she fights to live another day and back she went. Great way to christen my boat... land my first kingfish ever !!
  20. Thanks for the Reply guys..... Takign the boat out for first time sat morning, will have my cousin their who i always went fishing with to guide me and give me tips. practiced my reversing at the ramp yesterday too. I will suss out the wiring better but yeah when i get the dual setup i will get all done proper even if it cost me a we bit more. was going to go the Blue seas add a battery kit but the dealer said the BEP version is better quality so may go that path. they look the same price wise.
  21. Hi all.... picked up my stacer 499 seamaster today and i have been reading about dual battery setups as wiring boats etc..... some of the posts here have been helpful so below is the wiring the boat dealer did...... and i have a few question. is that negative cable bolted to the panel ok... that is not grounding the boat t the hull i sit as doesn't that cause electrolysis? . Also will change the wingnut to lock bolts. Does it look all ok and i dont have anything to worry about for the time being till i get my dual setup going
  22. Hello fellow raiders... finally decided to join up now i have myself a shiny new boat and can go chase some real fish in botany bay...was over undersize fish off the rocks. So question is...want to target kingfish in the bay and outside heads, bottom bash outside and on a good day go to FADS.... i got myself a shimano terez 10-30 lb 7.2fr rod amd putting my daiwa bg4000 on it, has 15lb mono on it at moment but may change it. Now i also will prob end up getting another terez in 30-50lb and will get a saragosa sw reel but not sure what size. I went and had a look was thinking 8000 but the thing is huge... so now thinking maybe a 6000 size. What do fellow raiders recommend... i know the bigger itbis more max drag amd holds more line but what else does a bigger size translate to? Hoping for advice and looking forward to meeting others out on the water some day
