  1. Hmmm got me thinking Go to bunnings and get some shade cloth... put a few of those snap clips similar to my tonneau cover and then just snap into place. Pain in the backside to do but better than coping 450 fine and 3 demerit points. However never seen anyone at ramp since i started boating in last 6 months cover their boats. I guess all it takes is one cop having a bad day and he gets u
  2. So i just got an Epirb for my boat ( GME MT600G ) and it is a manually operated one. while driving home i was thinking maybe i should have gotten the water activated one instead. For example i was thinking if it is in its mounting bracket on the boat and for some reason the boat flips upside down cause of a freak wave how would one actually reach the EPRIB to activate it, thus rendering a manual version useless. If i had a water activated one i assume if it goes underwater it gets activated (is my logic correct). What is best to get..... is it better with a manual one in a safety grab bag within reach with all the other flares/v sheets etc good enough, or better to have a mounted one that is Manual/water activated ? Also i got the manual one cause i was actually going to get a PLB and attach it to my life vest as an added piece of insurance. even though i dont go out very far yet i was thinking what happens if i get knocked out of the boat an cannot get back to my boat... at least i have the PLB on me and can activate that
  3. there is a big fishing store in Mona Vale.... got a 15kg Box of IQF pillies for 100 bucks. they also do 20kg boxes of block pillies i need to get myself a small freezer for the garage and store at my parents place. my fridge smells like one large pilchard with 15kg down the bottom freezer @Gengar.... i sent you a PM with details
  4. @ anthman....any luck today, how u go?? for me it was a donut( technically not as i got a small spikey flathead) but had my mates with me and another friend im his boat so more just about being on water.
  5. I hope they are as will be heading to middle harbour with another friend in his boat. first time for me fishing the harbour. If you see a gunmetal grey surtees 540 hardtop say hello thats me :) i dont usually fish lures but will have with me a Halco twisty in 40g, some pilchard style one in 40g, a couple of pink squid skirts and also a rapala xrap that dives about 6m down. Are surface style lures better ?
  6. Thanks for the Advise fellow Raiders. I will email the surtees dealer and give him a heads up
  7. Just a question on when you get your new boat. When they get the trailer is the portion circled in red already fixed from the factory (dunbier) or is this something the boat dealer adjust/setup when deliver your boat. Reason i ask is a few things do not seem right. first of all they have not put that post (what is the technical name for it) square and is a little off centre and when winching the boat up the winch belt starts to fold over itself, also also i just cannot get the boat catch to work at all as there does not seem to be enough clearance for the hook to pass the catch and fix itself. is that hook supposed to roll up the bow roller? you see on this video there is miles of room for the boat to move forward https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0BsHwm-Bds Just want to make sure it is something the dealer sets up as i will tell him to fix it up when i take boat in for service next month
  8. Hello Raiders have just recently upgraded and i know have a hardtop and the last few fishes when i go out its obviously morning and being cold the windshield is fogging up and its a pain to see what going on outside. the wiper only does half of the windshield and wiping it down doesn't do much either as before you know it fog has set in again. Any tips, tricks or products that you can put on windshield to help prevent the fogging or at least help reduce it ?
  9. I know Randwick council they have no problems or limits to how long you can leave a boat in the street. I even spoke to council and asked what happens if a neighbour complains about the boat what would happen. The lady said they may send a ranger out to check out the boat but if it is in areas where there is plenty of off street parking then there should be nil problems. My drama is my neighbors all has 3 or 4 cars, dont park in their driveways and take up all the streets car spots so if i move the boat they take the spot and just leave the car there for weeks on end sometimes. so each time i have to move the boat i put my old mans car in the spot outside the house.... pain in the proverbial but what can you do.
  10. Hi Raiders. i have never fished in the harbor or surrounds and a friend is taking his boat out as his dad from overseas is here so i decided to take mine out with him and get some of the boys along for the ride too. Where would u go just for a fun day out on water to wet a line not after kingfish or anything more just would be good to catch a few things to keep everyone happy and entertained
  11. Message sent.... thanks heaps for helping out

    long reef

Can you expand a little on the first comment about floaters.... are you referring to baiting or soft plastics?
  15. Hey Gonefishing Tried to send you a message but got the following error below.... mailbox full?
  16. So i am planning to go out of through botany heads this weekend to see if i can try get a snapper ( fingers crossed ) and have been doing some research and came across a old fishraider post that had the below map. Just wanted to know what do the colours on the chart indicate if anything ..... green is obviously land.... is dark brown rock/reef , yellow sand ?? Also what are these charts known as as want to try google search for more like this..... Finally do fellow raider think that snapper can be found outside the heads or is it the wrong tie of year. I will try off kurnell carpark, the lighthouse... cape banks maybe
  17. Mate said he is going to pull off some time this weekend and yeah in sure there is something i missed. Could be a good little weekend project to reverse engineer and see what might be the problem. he also said will give me the guys details he purchased off so might give em a call
  18. So my Mate purchased a boat and it came with a down-rigger on it and i had a look and it is the Black Marlin down-rigger. He doesn't really want it on the boat and i had a look at it and it seems to be a pretty solid bit of kit and i said i will swap ya for a case of beer ( on the proviso if it works ok) When looking at it yesterday quickly if you pull the line it just free spools out no problem but when you wind the handle in clockwise direction you hear a ratcheting noise but it does not wind the line back up. and when you do anticlockwise wind there is no movement the handle just does not budge. i tried looking for a lever or a button/switch that needed to be flicked to change way it wound but could not see anything. i know it is not a cannon or scotty and soooo hard to find any information on the web about this brand so i though i might ask here is anyone has had one or used one in the past. other question is.... do i save the money for the beer and put it to one of the better know brands ?
  19. Agree with you frank the tug boats are mental. first time i encountered their wake i was just off cape banks head i was drifting and i saw them flying past thinking boy they are big boats .... luckily i noticed the wake as i swear the waves looked about 1m high and there was about 4 or 5 of them really close frequency. My boat was side on to the oncoming wake and i actually started her up and put her bow first into the wake... and it got thrown around and its a 5.4m hardtop...... lucky i was paying attention and not day dreaming... that would have scared the bejesus out of me. i reckon they are just jealous we are out fishing and they are working.... so they give us abit of extra wake
  20. Wondering if anyone owns or has seen this book before... i was just looking for reefs off botany bay and stumbles across this on a google search You can view the entire book contents on google and it seems to have a lot of GPS marks in there... a lot of which have probably been posted on here int he GPS marks section but it has all states..... though no harm in sharing https://books.google.com.au/books?id=czTB2mZLyV4C&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=false
  21. is it from Springfield ?? reminds me of this
  22. yeah this had me thinking as well.... cause i launch myself i have to dip the feet into the water usually, especially when retrieving and depending if i have a good or bad day sometimes i need to go knee to put the winch rope on. i will just take a pair of fleece pants and throw over the shorts i guess if it gets too cold. I do recall last year in winter when i went with my cousin it was warmer to leave hands in the water than have em exposed out in the air. @ jeffb5.8.... that is an awesome idea the thermos with hotdog inside...genius you are.....have to try that :)
  23. So now i have the boat i will still go out in the winter months me think so was wondering what winter gear people use. Are there any good gloves out there that have covers for fingers so u can easily take off to bait up rather than n removing entire glove.
  24. Im no expert but first time i went for yakkas i got one... everyone around me was getting a few... next time i tried sabiki jig and same... hooks got pulled and wrecked the jig. This was using my bream rod Ever since watching a hook and the cook YouTube clip i chamged to a small handline with a small size 8 hook and i put a small ball sinker and swivel ( he used running sinker). amd i smash it...i got 10 my last outing in 45 min...dropped a few as well. I found that with the handline it is more sensitive and i can feel em nibbling and then gibe it a yank and u usually hook em. Bait is either pilli strips but i tried peeled prawnd last time out and still i found was good. For burley i just use chook pellers mixed with seafood coctail cat food. And i dont throw out heaps. I usually get there about 5am and anchor up...sand anchor only. It varies from 8-15 m depth. That whay seems to work for me... no promises but we have to try diff things Know just have to lern how to catch squid...
  25. Yeah the last time i caught a slimey in the bay i was out near the drums and a massive school came by, this was around feb. Since i been buying some bait from fish shop instead and i have the choice of Slimeys or a fresh mullet, what would u choose? i was thinking slimeys are they seem to have more blood/deeper red flesh than the mullet....but i may be wrong
