  1. Went down the lake again last night. There were a few around. What I did notice was 1,000's of smaller prawns around, here's hoping for a late season.
  2. More to the story me thinks. Having done it once many many years ago a boat doesn't sink that quickly with no bungs. What happened to the bilge pump?
  3. Simply forget it. Have been out a couple of nights at Narrabeen and at best 6 or so prawns. Went to Dee Why night, haven't been there for a few years and again nothing. Both are closed to the ocean but in previous years this hasn't been an issue at Dee Why but more of an issue at Narrabeen. I don't understand why no prawns, any ideas ?
  4. Entrance has been closed for a couple of weeks. Without significant rain it will stay that way for quite a while. Would love to see it opened up again, the fishing both inside the Lake and on the beach improves significantly when it is open at this time of year. Without it being open the water can become quite stagnant and pungent which results in generally poorer fishing for most parts of the Lake. Plenty of fish still to be caught though. ps. All fish were released to grow a bit bigger.
  5. I was very surprised myself, just using normal plastic flick and retrieve.
  6. Needed to get out so threw the boat in the Lake at Jamison Park. Headed off to a few different spots which I normally fish. Fished with soft plastics. Ended up with a few flathead between 45cm and 50cm and a horse whiting at 45cm. First time catching a decent size whiting on a soft plastic. Water temp averaged 22 degrees and wasn't as clear as I thought it would be. A good day on the water.
  7. No idea what kmot this is but use it all the time with 6lb braid to mono. Rather than overlapping on the way back I just feed it back through the loop.
  8. Been there done that, a stack of work for one day. Now that there is only 5 of us we normally just go out for lunch somewhere. This year we will probably go out on the boat, find a beach and have a seafood spread and relax.
  9. Boat insurance renewal just arrived and seems to have had a big increase like most policies. $700 for a 2019 Quintrex Renegade 460 with a 75hp Yamaha, water skiers coverage as well. Boat valued at $40,500. Does this seem OK ? What is everyone paying and with who ?
  10. My other happy place in the bush.
  11. Easy and cheap way is to buy a 10W panel for each battery, no regulator required just plug in and forget.
  12. You could try putting 20L of white spirits in the tank and sloshing it around for a few days. The problem will be getting rid of whatever cleaner you use. Buy a new fuel tank ?
  13. 1st one is my weekday up the street. Second and third one is my weekend up the street.
  14. Most of the well lit public wharfs will produce squid, however they can be a bit hit and miss at times. Be prepared to move to another one if no luck where you are.
  15. Decision made to head out from Roseville at around 9am. Hook boat up double check everything, ahh where is the Minn Kota remote, 1.5 hours later still couldn't find it. Antway found out here is an app for phone, problem solved. Off to Roseville and the place wasn't even half full which was a surprise considering the weather. Launched, left ramp and was checked by Maritime to make sure my inflated lifejacket was in date (must be done evry 12 months, most can be self serviced). Plan was to get some live squid, took a little while and a few changes in location, but with some squid in the tank off to chase some kingies. Went back up middle harbour and out they went. First one disappeared almost straight away but no indication on the rod. Next one was set near the bottom and was attacked by peckers straight away. Floated one out the back under a balloon for zip. If anyone has any tips for fishing live squid I'm all ears. Anyway at least I got out for the first time since beginning of Decemnber.
  16. Depends on the height of the high tide, keep in mind the tide doesn't generally start to run into the lake until around 1 1/2 to 2 hours after low tide. At the moment it seems to be just on the western side of the Ocean St bridge. With no real rain in the forecast it will take a week or so to clear up at the back end.
  17. Narrabeen Lake is murky as but is still fishing pretty well for bream and flathead. The trick at the moment is to fish the incoming tide where the fresh and murky water meet.
  18. I'm a fan of the Shimano Raider rods to the point that I have 3 of them all basically the same. The 1kg to 4kg Raiders will land some good size fish as an example biggest flathead I've landed on one was 76cm. Matched to a Sedona 2500 and running 6lb braid with an 8lb leader. The 2500 reel gives you plenty of line to play with. Cost of these combo's is around $250 and will last you a long time if looked after.
  19. There just seems to have been more around the last year or two than previous years.
  20. From six maps it appears that it is all Council Land, so if it is a private sign not enforceable. Council signs will always Council's details, by laws, etc. on sign.
  21. The last few beach fishing trips have resulted in baits being taken by small bronzies about 4ft long while fishing for jewies. I'm using either whole squid or a slab of mullet fillet. Any ideas on avoiding them apart from changing beaches ?
  22. I use a Shinmao Bream Raider rod 1 - 4 kg fitted with a Shimano Sedona 2500 reel and 6lb braid. Love this combo for soft plastics, squidding and chasing whiting. Rod and reel will cost around $225.00 from a shop.
  23. Nice catch. Up this way anything under 40cm we normally throw back.
