  1. It's brand new BMT package. Seen the price of aluminium lately ?
  2. All about the weather and your level of experience. I used to take my 3.5m tinny 2 - 3 km's out on the right day. Took my 4.7m Cuddy cabin out to 12 mile regularly. As has been said wind is your enemy, especially if you are heading into it on your way home. If you are ssure don't go.
  3. Just had a quick look on boatsales, people asking stupid money as usual. Don't discount new. https://www.boatsales.com.au/boats/details/2021-quintrex-420-dory/OAG-AD-19490095/?Cr=11 Add a bimini for a couple of hundred and a good sounder for $600 - $700 and you'll end up with a good little set up for what you want. Bonus is you are not buying someone else's problem and everything is covered by a warranty. You will be able to go outside a little on good days as well.
  4. Thanks mate. The thing that got me was inferred threat of physical violence if I didn't move. Bit hard to defend yourself when it's 1 v's 6, no matter how in the right you are it's not worth it. Might head down later night if the wind drops.
  5. Went for a fish on Saturday afternoon late down at the lake near the entrance. Turned up early to get a spot and wait for the swimmers to go home. Started having a few casts and a group of guys had set up about 6ft away from me. I said I had just arrived about 1/2 an hour prior and planning on staying until after dark. Kept having a cast and turned around to find that they had put all their gear around mine and had told their kids (about 14 years old) to sit within a foot in front of my chair. I was then told that they were fishing here now with all their cousins who were on their way. After a few words from me to try and diffuse the situation and get a solution it was time to leave. To my amazement there were a lot of other people around and everyone just turned a blind eye. Talking to a few other fisho's this is not the fist time it has happened and it clearly won't be the last. I have fished this area for over 20 years and never had a problem with fellow fisho's respecting every other fisho's space. Not really sure if I want to go back on a busy night, just don't need shit like this.
  6. Boat weight is boat only, no motor, gear etc.
  7. Don't take what you can get, better off waiting for what you want otherwise it can be expensive white elephant.
  8. Two years ago I upgraded to a Renegade 460 side console and couldn't be happier. Mostly I fish by myself and needed a boat that I could easily launch and retrieve by myself. I fish anywhere from water that is a couple of feet deep through to offshore without any drama's. Family days are a couple of times a year. I find we have plenty of room for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. The open layout of a side console gives you so much space for the size of the boat. Prior to this we had a cuddy cabin and it just didn't suit for a family of 4 to spend the day out. There is a huge difference between a 420 and 440 compared to a 460, look at them side by side if you can. The best advice I can give is whatever you decide on make sure the motor is the largest the hull is rated for otherwise it may be an absolute dog when loaded up.
  9. Great rods for the $$$, have 2 for flicking soft plastics. Largest flathead so far is 78cm using 6lb braid. Match it to a 2500 size reel and away you go.
  10. Sorry, but this is just more nanny state stuff. Think about how many people go boating and how many deaths there are, very very few. At some point people in particular skippers have to be responsible what happens on their boat. A lot of people don't follow the current regs regarding wearing of lifejackets, maybe start policing these more. ps. when I bought my current boat I made sure it was over 4.8m so didn't have to wear a lifejacket every time I was out by myself.
  11. Knots for wind, as someone who has done a lot sailing over the years.
  12. There you go, always though it was around 1.5. Just means I can go faster in designated zones 😜
  13. Km/h's for speed and distance, M for depth. Just need to remember speed limits are in knots and times by 1.5 to get km/h.
  14. Time to get a new one, happy to spend up to $200. What is everyone using and how do find it.
  15. Link ? There is nothing on the DPI website.
  16. I would stay well away from anywhere near Manly during school holidays. Head a bit further up the Beaches to either South Curl Curl (rock fishing) or further up to either Long Reef or Collaroy / Narrabeen beaches. Another option is flicking plastics around the edges of Narrabeen Lake.
  17. There is a documented test method that batteries are able to be tested to, it's called TS001. We sell AGM's for fire systems and ALL must have TS001 and Activfire approval prior to being used. It guarantee's what you are buying. General run of the mill deep cycles can essentially be whatever a manufacture wants to claim. As an example there is a company selling 130AH batteries that barely weigh 30kg's, our 100AH batteries weigh 30kg's and have been properly tested and certified. The more a battery weigh's the greater it's capacity is the general rule.
  18. Plenty of light viewing here. Scroll to 6.45 mins.
  19. I know a couple of people that have done their Coxian through Marine Rescue. Join up and work through what you need to do.
  20. Scam, scam, scam. Can't remember exactly how it works, but they put more money into your account than the car is sold for, you give them the difference back via eft and they then contact their bank and have the original amount returned to them. You loose the money you gave them.
  21. Have you considered a base model camper trailer.
