  1. Nice Catch Rayc99.. would have been a lot of fun on a light set up.. seem to be a few legal fish getting caught down your way at the moment.. only rats we have hit up here have been just under.
  2. Nice work Toby.. great effort on light line
  3. Thanks Green Hornet, I usually run more than that but I do notice that the lower end of my FG's don't tighten up even under a large amount of strain.. Might try reducing the number of wraps and see how I go.. added bonus of making them faster to tie lol
  4. LOL sounds like that should do it... an alfresco bomb shelter
  5. Nicely done mate.. a lot more satisfying than paying someone else to do it... Just make sure you post an update after the next major storm (kidding)
  6. Thanks for the post Donna, great collection and great photos to pull out the next time my wife complains I'm spending too much at the tackle shop.. could be a lot worse lol
  7. I have been advised both to do this and not to.. Advised to melt the leader to reduce any sharp edges from the cut end that could cut the mainline and advised not to as any thickening of the tag end creates a rubbing point on the mainline when they lay flat.... like most of fishing there is a lot of conflicting information...
  8. Great report and top photos Dave, Do you think it was the confidence of landing one fish that led to the others or a change in conditions?
  9. I used to do the same thing when fishing the washes with bait.. very lightly weighted slimy fillet cast as close to the rocks as possible and then let it waft back into the deeper water. Since I started fishing with plastics I thought it was a waste of time to stop to gather livies and headed straight to the first drift for sun up.. Mainly to avoid the temptation to switch back to bait if the plastics weren't working
  10. I found this video a few weeks back and found that it works really well for light line.. I have always struggled tying FG nots in light line as the leader always seems to distort when you have pressure on the mainline. Interested in giving one of the tools a go.. Is there a consensus on which is the best?
  11. Wow nice photos and great to see the water levels up
  12. Thanks Scratchie, If you did see a series of arches on the screen without a touch/hook up, would you change your plastic for the next drift?
  13. Great report Jahmon and great to see you are having fun fishing in an area with such a high fishing/traffic pressure. No idea how you keep track of your record catches for each species.
  14. Great advice scratchie.. bit of insight into the thought process behind using a sounder. I usually find advice about sounders consist of a screen shot of a large pinnacle lit up with 20 large arches (probably straight off the Lowrance how to video lol)
  15. Sounds almost exactly what we use to use hitting the bottom at all mark up here a few years back. We ran about a meter of line to the sinker at the bottom but rarely snagged up anything but the sinker. Might just be different bottom structure up here. we gave up a few years back.. was fun foe awhile (and a lot less effort than jigging) but battling the current got to be a bit much I think. good luck with it mate.. can’t wait to see more of your reports Bolts
  16. Think that might be the key Scratchie.. think I might be wasting to much time when we would be better off hitting a new spot.. will take a fair few trips to work out when a spot isnt firing.. so easy to say “one more drift” lol
  17. Hey zoran, what rig are you running? If you are using a standard paternoster rig you can use a lighter line for the sinker as it is quite often that the sinker gets lodged in the reef. Using a sacrificial sinker would save you the terminal tackle braid and re-rigging time. bolts
  18. Nice report Scratchie and great result for a couple of hours on the water
  19. The warm water from the power stations really messes with them. I heard a report (just a rumour) of a queen fish being caught down near the power stations a few years back. Not sure I believe that one given the queen fish would need to be very lost just to get down this south but the hot water does raise the overall temp of the lake and change the behaviours of the fish.

Thanks guys great advice I’ve already bought three lots of lures from gumtree and didn’t twig that the guys were probably doing exactly what I will be doing after my trip lol. Started counting down the days now.. can’t wait to catch my first trout on the surface
  21. You could try actually putting a camera out. You can pick up motion activated hunting cameras off ebay pretty cheap these days. Just position one of your pots close to shore and fix the hunting camera to a tree near by. The cameras come in camo colours so it should be pretty safe if you hide it well enough. We did a similar thing when were were building an extension and losing gear/materials to kids on a regular basis. Good luck, lazy bastards should just set their own
  22. Not sure about land based mate but from the boat it depends on what they are feeding on. I usually tie a 5 inch jerk shad on for starters but will move up to a 7inch if there are lot of larger slimies/yakkas in the area or down to 4 inch grub if they are smashing tiny baitfish. I usually stick to the lighter colours and anything with silver to for contrast in low light conditions.
  23. Can’t help you with the setup mate, will leave that to the more knowledgeable around here but you have my envy.. sounds like a cracking trip. Best of luck
  24. Great report Steeevoo, those kings are really fun on light gear
  25. Fair call mate... will spend a bit more time checking the sounder
