  1. Was that on the southern side of korogoro pt?
  2. Two merlin engines!! No way. That's sensational. Those things must be in demand. I'm sure you'd have no trouble selling them if required. There are two flying spitfires at the Temora aviation museum - I dunno how many other flying planes in oz take the legendary merlin?
  3. Yeah here here Spanker, watching those guys was better than any TV fishing show I've seen. It was pure sport fishing at its best. Battling to stop them big fellas from getting into the snags. Thanks fellas for the king - you made our day!! (Spanker had his day made twice)
  4. Bewdy - they go don't they! I love the shape of their tails. any fish that jumps out of the water gets a thumbs up from me Did you eat him - and if so how was he and what prep did you do? Did you bleed and clean him straight away? Cheers, Jon
  5. What a nice day for it?! Was great to meet some new faces and catch up with some familiar ones. I'm always impressed with the professional organisation of the socials. No stone unturned. And, yummy BBQ Ross!
  6. I'll be in for the social part of the event at Clifton. See you all there!
  7. What a lovely colour he has in him too! Beauty!
  8. Very nice. Beautiful fish.
  9. Your surname isn't Dunkley by any chance is it?! hahaha You have a strong resemblance to him! They used to call Dunkley "Seinfeld", cause of his resemblance to Seinfeld - you have a bit of a resemblance to Seinfeld too! Happy new year mate! BTW, they are all complements ;-)
  10. Hey mate, yeah i know how you feel about finding out later that the max size is actually about the size you got. I caught a spiny nosed flathead (a quite uncommon flathead bread) off middle head and it was about 30cm or something like that, not very big. Anyhow I released it, and then did some research on it when I got home and found that there was no size limit on them, and that the max out at about 33cm or something. I was kicking myself. Actually it was very ancient looking, like it had not developed at all in a million years. At first glance I thought it was a rod cod and was actually cursing it. Cheers, jon
  11. G'day people. Me and the little lady headed up to Boomerang Beach for Xmas for a few days for a bit of relaxation. It's the first time we've been there, and it really is a nice spot. Saw dolphins from the shore at Elizabeth Beach and at Tuncurry. We (I) didn't take any fishing gear, but when we were strolling around a servo, a handline somehow made its way into my hand. Just in case. Anyhow, we went up to Forster/Tuncurry looking for somewhere to eat on Xmas day, and took the turnoff to the co-op with fingers crossed, but of course it was all shut. But, there were some fishos there, and some big bream wandering around in the blue, so I levered open a couple of oysters and baited the handline. Got heaps of bites but of course the oysters don't stay on the hook much longer than a few milliseconds. So, we visited the Caltex nearby and brought back to beach worms and prawns. We were greeted back at the co-op by more dolphins!!! So we bait up with the worms and throw out, and the bites come thick and fast. There was this lovely blue fish swimming around contending for its share, but was clever enough not to get snagged on the hook. First onto the jetty was a little toad courtesy Miss Seagoon, then when drifting the bait down towards an isolated pole east of where we were fishing, I hooked up and had quite a decent but quick fight as I skull dragged in a... blackfish??? On beach worm??? He was a keeper too, so we thought, well, we could use some food! I have not kept a Blackfish before, didn't know the legal size, and so I had to "phone a friend" (Dad), and then cleaned him there and got rid of the black stuff out of the stomach lining. He was very yummy. So howzat? Blackfish on beach worm? The only other Blackfish I have caught was on yabbie - so I'm good at getting the ones that are partial to meat. Attached is a photo of the landscape up that way - is really nice. It's so different to everything around Sydney, and a lot of the rock looks volcanic or clayie, rather than sandstone.
  12. Oh yeah, how good was the dirty deeds cover band. That fella's voice was just like Bon's - I saw them with about 3 singers and the first one was the best, but they only did Bon era stuff. You'd close your eyes and you'd swear it was Bon. I take my hat off to Brian Johnson on this album - the guy is amazing, to have punished his throat for all those 29 years and then to be able to pull this off - its amazing. And how good are the Tatts!!! Angry Anderson - he is rock n roll royalty as far as Im concerned. My favourite singer too. What a voice. I didn't know about the vinyl release - but the new CD certianly comes in a few colours!
  13. People, the new ACDC album rocks its arse off. Its $18.95 at Borders - so do yourselves a favour! Geez I can't wait to see em live again.
  14. Thanks for those further tips guys. Just when you think you know how to maintain your boat...! Yeah sorry I forgot - the its was still jammed in there after a few solid hits with the mallet!! Gee its in there hard... Anyhow, i've got some inspiration now. Cheers.
  15. Hey, thanks people for your replies - much appreciated. Will let you know how i go!
  16. Hi all, Gee i've had a long winter off fishing, and am raring to go now, but took the boat out on Sunday morn, only to not be able to steer the sucker. The steering rod that slides through the outboard's hinge is seized, or something, and wont budge unless coaxed by a big mallet. Any tips? Is there any chance that I have somehow bent the shaft inside and that may be causing its unwillingness to move? Perhaps someone bumped into the back of the boat while it was parked on the street. Cheers, Jon
  17. Hey there, Are you going to spray over the top of the current coat? You really need to prep the surface really well. I've not so long ago been through a similar process. I spent hours and hours stripping paint and cleaning and srubbing and scraping. I recommend getting the whole thing sand blasted. It may cost you 500 bucks, but it will save you many many many hours and also a few hundred bucks in chemicals such as paint stripper, etchant etc etc. Take my word for it, it would be money well spent. You need to paint the thing asap after etching or sand blasting. If you sand blast, the paint will stick like poo to a shoe. I went to a lot of trouble with the etchant thing and the paint is stuck on really well. I had some great help from a friend who i met on FR - particularly with painting, but also a priceless tip was the use of plastibond to fill holes and dings etc. It was brilliant. Last of all, be realistic about what you are getting youself into. How long are you commting your boat to the dry land for - will you miss out on good fishing months? Fishing is more fun that ripping the guts out of your boat!!! Cheers, Jon
  18. I need to make a sign for my boat too - the idea i had is to laser cut some grey contact :-) Lucky we have a laser cutter at work. Great for foreign orders!!!
  19. Good member name - is that your new boats name? It should be! I wish id thought of it ;-)
