  1. Mate at least you got a hook up! We didnt get a touch today, though while getting yakkas at balmoral, we saw a couple of kingies carve though... The highlight of the day was seeing a fairy pengiun in middle harbour - we fed it 3 yakkas. It was so cute, and was talking to us... sort of!
  2. Ive decided that im going to catch my first kingie hahahaha!!!
  3. Hi there, Id say with that plan, you should probably try the north narra beach. The problem is that there just isnt that many big fish in the lake - certainly not jewies. No doubt there are some big flatties in there, but i recon you could spend your time better elsewhere. Also the gutter beside the caravan isnt really much of a gutter - there is a drop off from the flats, but its probably not what you are thinking. The other thing is that the tides are not very defined in the lake - there is not a great deal of difference between high and low tide. I have found that timing is the most important thing thus, ie early morning and afternoon. So, do the live bait thing, and try north narra beach, or pittwater road bridge on the western upstream side. Let us know how you go! :-)
  4. Just wondering if anyone has a preferred Sabiki rig brand or style? I have noticed that hook size and type, fly colour etc vary from rig to rig and brand to brand. Do people have favourites, or have you noticed that a particular style works best? Do you find that they are consistant? Ie they work every outing?
  5. yeah balmoral off the rocky outcrop in between the two beachs - anchor in about 3.5m of water and burley up, and soon youll be surrounded by a swarm of yakkas :-)
  6. Gday all, Planning an outing for next sat, and am wondering where a good spot to give a go may be, other than clifton... any suggestions? Dont mind a reasonable degree of difficulty... Have been eyeing of the rocks near hornby lighthouse for some time... :-)
  7. Gday, Thanks to the person who suggested the little headland in the middle of balmoral for yakkas. It was really productive for me last weekend. The directions were perfect, ie about 12ft of water etc etc. The burley was important. Im just wondering where to get slimmies around there... doesnt anyone know any decent spots for slimmies? I know one or two in the main harbour, but not up north or middle. I have seen a fishing video of a certain pro who suggests that shack bay is good for squid?
  8. Farmers who work the land take good care of the land, and plan ahead. They also seed their crops. Why cant pro fishing be the same? Why should we take without giving back? Especially the by-catch... Should there not be a rule where for every fish that is caught, bycatch or otherwise, a fingerling has to be put back to seed the water? Fisheries would manage this, and i guess it would have to be done by statistical estimation... it would push the price up of local fish, but hey... Its really the fisheries mgmt that is at the core of the blame here, not showing any decent leadership on the matter. The pros pay there way through their licenses, and the fisheries know what goes on in terms of bycatch etc...
  9. Nice pics motty!!! Geoff hasnt changed a bit!
  10. Its been quiet this season dude... a bit dissapointing actually... i normally fish juno for flatties. Fresh bait is really important in the hawkesbury. Use yabbies or fresh yellowtail fillets, or hawkesbury prawns if you must. The iron is that the reason you cant catch many fish in there ATM is cause the people who catch the prawns also clean out all the babys...
  11. A thousand words is worth a picture ;-) hahaha Thanks for your info and effort in writing that post 'gaffer :-)
  12. This is a bit late but the only real problem i have found with roseville is when the wind is coming directly at the ramp, which seems to happen to me all the time :-) i normally prime the engine and get it going before i push it off...
  13. Good on ya. Juno has been quiet for me this summer (unlike last summer). So making more flatties is a good idea! Dunno why is gone south this year.. are the pros in the river more?
  14. Moonlite! Great to hear from you!!!
  15. [http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=26138] The only positive i can see in that is that he can customise his boat rego to "cheating husbandN"... doesnt really work, but will save a paint job...
  16. Along similar lines, have you heard about the 3 stages of manhood? With relation to male intimate relations, there are three phases: teenage man - try weekly just married man - tri-weekly old man - try weakly
  17. Do you take Shannon Noll out fishing regularly, or was today just a one-off?
  18. Sounds like a bargain compared to mine, and its just a 2S 25!!!
  19. Yes thats right, and thats what Jigholio means by a star earth connection. Its called a star, because all the cables come in to one point, like a star :-) The reason it makes a difference is because the battery is a very low impedance source of power, and as soon as you introduce a cable, you introduce resistance, and if the cable is shared by other devices, their spurious current draw through this resistance will create voltage noise at the other end of the cable. So if you run separate power cables to the battery, then you can avoid this. Of course this isnt always practical! This also means of course that you can route the cable along an entirely different route. On my boat, i have partitioned it into two halves - sounder on one side, and everything else on the other.
  20. Thats good advice there from Ross - try to get your antenna cable away from everything else too. Because radio signals are so tiny they can get crapped on pretty easily by interferers. There is basically 3 places that interferers can leak into a radio like this: 1) the power supply - good power supply filtering is required - a decent radio should have this taken care of though... 2) the antenna - routing the antenna cable away from noise sources is important - if the interferer is not super strong, sometimes an attenuator can help knock it down just enough to stop it overloading or distorting the front end of the radio. If the interferer is in-band, well, your stuffed! I doubt that is the case here, youd have to be unlucky for a sounder to be generating stuff right on 27 megs, but it can be a lottery. 3) the actual internals of the radio - not usually a problem unless you have a *really* strong interferer like a tv tower - once again a good radio will help with internal shielding etc I suggest you try one thing to help ID the problem so that you can nip it in the bud. Turn on the radio and the finder and adjust the squelch knob until the interference is *just* audible. Then, as Ross says, separate the cables until you hear a difference. See what sort of positioning looks the most promising then do that. Also, how far is your finder display from the radio and antenna? PC LCD diplays notoriously radiate like stars, due to the high data rates and fast edges, and these high-end sounders that are coming out are probably not much different. Another experiment you can try is to detach the finder power cable and then connect it to the display and move the display as far away as possible from the radio & antenna. Dont hold on to the display when you do this test. Also try rotating the display to see if anything changes noise-wise. If the cabling is already well segregated, then your problem may not be so easy to solve on your own. But that is probably not likely. You may want to consider something like cat number LF1294 from www.jaycar.com.au. Position it as close to the cable exit as possible, and wrap the cable through as many times as you can (the more the better in general). These guys will help prevent noise from being conducted down the power cables of your stuff. Probably best not to put one on the sounder transducer cable as it may actually degrade the sounder signal a bit. Hope that is helpful in some manner! PM me if you need a hand.
  21. Sensational... i too am chasing my first king! Thanks to the great people and friends i have made from this site i have half a chance ;-) next sat is the day maybe! What general part of the harbour did you have your success in?
  22. Good decision... last year i repainted mine and i had it all back to bare metal. More than anything, it takes a bugger load of elbow grease. From memory, i used some liquid you dilute a bit, with a piece of steel wool, and a wire brush. Doesnt take long for the shine to dissapear on the bare parts!!
