  1. With a good sounder it wont matter which side unless you plan on running it less than say 10 foot. If so why bother with a rigger? I can see mine on each side with the furuno 620 with no dramas at anything over say 7 foot. Why not put 2 on the boat and have some proper fun.
  2. Was my pleasure Steve. Great day with top results.
  3. Cheers guys. The lure that did the damage was a Flickbait 145mm but i also had hits on other plastics that day. Fished north of sydney harbour.
  4. yep that was me, It stands out a bit doesnt it.... Was a nice day out there either way.
  5. Hazza, Mate i saw heaps of them out there today. Definatly some kind of jelly fish. Some were huge. I am supprised i didnt run into you at rose bay as i was pulling in around that time. Today was a bit of a shut down day, i pulled nothing but sargent baker all day. I did see one lone dolly swimming round my boat for a while, but wouldnt take anything i offered.
  6. OMG!!! John you done well again. Congrats!
  7. After a very frustrating last few months with heaps of massive bust offs and quite a few droped fish, I have been determined to get into a solid Sydney RED. All long weekend i have been looking at the weather and kicking myself that i had so many family duties and no time for a Serious Snapper session. I took the boat out on saturday arvo in pitty with the old man and ended up with only a few Good Bream but not much else. So this morning i awoke at 4 am, still a little hung over from yesterdays party, looked outside and it looked wet, Back to bed, Set the alarm for 5. Up again and bugger it. I am going for a fish. Hit the ramp at half six and off to the squid grounds, I had no patience for it this morning though so after 10 mins i decided it was going to be a dedicated plastic session today.. What a decision it proved to be. After flying out to the grounds on near perfect conditions i picked a drift and stuck with it. About 9am i had my first hit and, DUSTED!!!!!!!!!!!! :BangHead: I was hoping that this wasnt going to be another one of those days. less than 2 mins later AGAIN.. I got belted. Boath fish took the plastic right near the bottom and took drag with ease. Didnt last long at all... Ok so by now i am shattered, 2 rods and none set up. I quickly rig up a line, Throw it out and decide to jigg it once before i was to put it in the holder to set up the other, As its going in the holder it loads up, Big time. All i can do is watch line peel from the reel with ease. too hard to chase it down as i am fishing solo so just fight it standing. Luckly it all held together, after a very tence fight with heaps of runs, Fish netted and Landed. A New PB Sydney Snapper. I am Stoked. Cant wait for Mum to cook it up. BTW sorry about the photos, I tried my best taking it on a timer and standing the camera my dash. Oh well you get the idea. That was it for the day. No more hits, Just a few bakers and that was that. Vince

Is it just me or up untill last year i had never caught a catty in the harbour.?.? I hope its not going to get over run like the hawks...
  14. + 1 on jewgaffers last responce. I owned a 14 foot Glass half cab about 6 years ago and it had the same type of 70hp mercury motor. The engine had been rebuilt but still a "DOG of a motor" ( Very thirsty and ran like a bag of s*** when cold.. and didnt start first time every time). Not one mechanic (AND I TRIED ABOUT 4 OR 5), could get it to run how it should reliably. A lot of places didnt even want to touch it due to the age and the problems related with these motors. Do yourself a favour and if your totally keen on this boat , Get a Pre Purchase Inspection done. Could save you a lot of Headache and Cash. Vince
  15. Nice fish there Miller Well done

    What Rod ?

Depending on budget but i guess with a reel like that budget isnt your issue. I have played with a heap. I would look at firstly the Carpenter OH56MH, Closley followed if not bettered by the Hots Wei World 52XH. I got a custom built after playing with these rods and even owning a carpenter. The reason i went custom is that i wanted a slightly softer tip for downrigging and slightly smaller jigs. There is nothing wrong with the Saltiga rods either. I run a 60b for downrigging and couldnt be happier with it. If your into fancy also look at Fisherman and ripplefisher (boath megga bucks though) Good luck!
  19. Humesy, Mate it is tough going at the moment thats for sure. Every sydney harbour kingfish junkie is feeling the pain! It has been a very odd season thats for sure. Keep it up and they are bound to show up soon. Me personally, I havent bothered chasing kings properly in the past few outings.

csg, It tucks away nicely under the armpit and also under your forearm. It also casts a mile!!!!!!!!! 7'2" so its not too short but nothing like 8 - 9 foot!!!!!! Also I Bought it here. With the dollar where it is atm it works out about the same and no waranty issues.

Greg, I havent had much problem with a 7 - 7'6" rods for snapper fishing on my little boat. I think a 9 foot rod from a little boat would just cause heaps of troubles but mate would cast a mile. Those UFM rods are very cool thats for sure but also even more megga bucks than the megabass. I looked at the morethan rod and compared with the megabass, also the new samurai, the zion rod and even a loomis. If i didnt get the megabass i prob would have gone the morethan (sooooo light) How do you break 2 rods in 2 months????? How have you been going on the reds? I think i am converted...

  24. Mike, Not a professional but it looks to me that there is something missing. You could either 1. find a factory mount for that modle transducer or 2. Make up a bracket but i doubt that what ever you make will be as snug and easily adjustable as the factory item. My $0.02c
