  1. I have a dedicated section in my freezer for some ice blocks and baits (salted fish strips, squid, next trips burley). Ready for when a window for fishing opens. You should see my wife's eyes roll when we are running low on freezer space! Just to add, growing up fishing with my dad and extended family. We would just scoop some seawater in our fishing bucket and drop the fish in...as it swam in circles till its death...😔 It was only when I got back into fishing as an adult, I read more online about how to keep fish properly. I can understand the frustration, if you are going to end its life, treat it properly and try to maximise the quality of the sacrifice...for your belly 😅
  2. That's an awesome fish. I'm yet to catch trout myself but you have got me excited! You know you have been bitten by the fishing bug when you go to the lengths that you did. Definitely a memory you will look back fondly!
  3. Nice fish. What boat do you have?
  4. Nice Bream! Shame about the release. As @Isaac Ct and @Yowie have said, jackets are good eating. I find the meat is a little firmer. Skinned, bit of flour and pan fried. Dipped in some fish sauce with chillies and served over rice is normally how we eat them. What did you do with the squid? A tough choice betwen great bait and tasty morsels!
  5. Looks like tons of fun right at your backyard. Can't beat that. I can totally relate, my go to is a bloodworm 2.5" slimswimz. Catch most of my fish on that...even though I keep accumulating more and more different lures...
  6. Woah, that's crazy that the squid managed to hatch an escape plan! Where do you normally go in botany bay for your winter squid? I was also out last Sunday, I went to yarra bay for the first time ever given how low the wind and swell was. I managed to get an arrow right at the end of the day at front of yarra point. I tried bumbora point but didnt have much luck there and there were actually a few people trying too. Did land a couple of trevs and an aggressive tailor there though. Wasn't brave enough to try bare island in my new kayak.
  7. That trev is a stonker! Love eating trevs. My wife is not a big fish eater but loves them as sashimi so that's saying something!
  8. Look like you are cracking the winter bream code! Love the fish measure board. Like @Green Hornet suggested, im looking to make a cheap one for my new kayak since it doesn't have a fish measure. Just haven't gotten around to it. Lots of YouTube videos going around on how to make one.
  9. Haha with the amount of kingies you catch it was about time you paid some tax!
  10. I love how you always find an opportunity for a fish. I have had that happen to me. I was aimlessly casting in the shallows around Maianbar in the crystal clear water one day when a flatty jumped at it my soft plastic and gave me a shock. I missed him the first time but hooked up on the second cast!
  11. Looks action packed. I have a two year old and I can't wait to take him out like my dad did when we were little . At the moment, any mention of fishing and he goes and takes out his kmart toy rods 🤣
  12. Nice haul! Thanks for sharing your tips on what squid jigs works best in the hacking during the day time, might have to get some of those! Could you share some spots in the hacking with me as well. I've had some success at Salmon Haul and Yowie Bay Boat Ramp but struggle to get more than one or two when a trip when I target them. I normally fish from a yak. In winter are you targeting them in the deeper water?
