  1. I wind the reel with my right hand and that's mostly because of what I learned as a kid fishing with my dad. He is a 99.9% a bait fisherman (squidding was the only luring he really did when i was a kid at least) so I think left or right didn't matter too much. When I started lure fishing I found it hard to impart action with my left hand holding the rod. I tried switching once and hooked on a squid with it and was struggling to reel it in so I switched back. At some point I think I'll switch back to left hand wind and just keep going until it becomes natural.
  2. Cracking lizard. Congrats on the retirement. What boat did you get?
  3. Woah, now that is an eventful day. Talk about perseverance to continue. I guess you need a bit of that when fishing. Having the yak swing around on a bite would scare the daylights out of me.
  4. Great report, hope to see more reports of your yak fishing adventures
  5. Wall to wall flatties as reward to getting past the wall to wall boats and jetskis. Great report, glad to see you back decimating the fish population 😂
  6. What a great way to spend a day. Well said, sometimes it's not just about the actual fishing.
  7. What a great weekend. Looking forward to the photos.
  8. Love the report and the part where he got it on his first try. Something I can only dream of as my coordination is worse than my 2yr old son. Helping another raider, @DerekD you are part of what makes fishraider so special. Getting better at lure fishing especially surface lures is on my bucket list but just don't have the time for it at the moment.
  9. Still got onto some kingies, not a bad result given the conditions. Good luck out there today.
  10. 8am?! Are you sure you weren't dreaming? Sounds like a blast none the less, glad to hear you were finally able to get some time to get out there. I think the fish heard @Yowie was back and went into hiding...that's what I'm chalking my donut on Monday to.
  11. Woah that is an amazing collection!
  12. Definitely seems like it is tough going for everyone one on the squid. Definitely go out again if you can. You can never go too much 😅
  13. Condolences to you and your extended family. I really enjoyed his reports on here.
  14. Nice bag of flatties and thats a nice looking boat - jealous! Did you manage to get any squid? I was out at the entrance as well tofay but didnt manage get any.
  15. Nice to see you back at it and never failing to take a feed home! I was also out this morning, out at the mouth looking for squid but no luck like @Larkin
  16. Nice report. Agree with @Little_Flatty, what a nice back drop.
  17. Nice report, sounds like an eventful day. A great snapper for your first one on SP! I have only caught tiny pinkies on plastics. What depth were you fishing at for them and what size jig head did you use? Shame the squid haven't been cooperating lately.
  18. Woah, started in Dec 2021 and doing so much better than me! Good stuff, keep it up.
  19. Welcome to kayak fishing and let the addiction begin! Great on you @DerekD for helping so many people enjoy the different varieties of fishing and as @Little_Flatty said, keeping the tackle shop lights on 🤣 As for handling fish in the kayak, I usually keep them in the net and drop them either side the pedal drive where my feet usually are or . Now if they are particularly green and flapping about then I lift the net up so they cant jump out and make an escape. I have a particular large net though, which was made for landbased fishing In terms of dealing with large fish, i haven't had an issue with that either because i havent caught one 🤣
  20. Awesome back to back sessions with memories that'll last a lifetime. Doesn't get any better than that!
  21. Great write up and looking forward to your progress. I'm continually amazed at the community here with so many people willing to spend their time to teach, share their knowledge and learn.
  22. Ran into this video couple of days ago. I know very little about boats and found it interesting. Thought others may find it interesting as well. Hand cut ally boat
  23. Thanks! The flatties was in the low 50s was the second fish caught on the day after a just legal flatty that looked like it was on a diet that went back in to grow some more!
  24. Happy father's day to all the dads out there. Hope you have a great day. This is my little man, shopping for his dad's gift 🤣
