  4. hey guys.. up at brunswick heads on holidays... only had a chance to get out fishing one day so far and had a mad day catchin moses perch (cool for a central coast boy-- first for me they fight really hard) and heaps of bream (the best one on a piece of sausage roll) and one mangrove jack that i lost... got bricked by 3 nice bream in the rocks because i was on the 4 pound mono.... it is good fishing up here , the small bream here are the big ones back home...\\the whole brunswick river is full of baitfish.. bloody low pressure has stuffed our fishin and new years eve too... i brought my camera but forgot my usb cable so i will post a few pics when i get back home....\ we are thinkin jewfish tomorrow or wednesday at the breakwall on the colour change, but there are 5 meter swells so i'm not sure cheers raiders ian
  5. went to north channel last night for about an hour and caught 3 nice whiting around 34 cm and 2 flathead on shrimp... short report because i am packin my bags to go to brunswick heads tonight.....mud crabs, and a bit of livebaitin will be on the cards, maybe some plastics ... 10 days of joy .. will let you guys know merry xmas and a guide cracking new year raiders ian
  6. nice fish man... i just bought the same reel...
  7. my mate caught one at 52 cm and it was estimated at 25-30 years old..... no joke at the entrance??????? that is a serious bream ... i live up here and i have seen nothing like that in the system ... warm water hmmmmmm wd mate ian
  8. pelican itch.... don't even talk about that stuff lol i hate it... stingrays are cool they will leave you alone mostly (except when you are pumping nippers- but they are there for a feed...)i figure its too hot for waders in summer anyway nice fish mate ian
  9. wd on the fish... i've seen a big flatty eat a legal flatty that was hooked
  10. friday morning... stuck inside... weather is great... not happy prayed it would hold out and headed to the entrance at 4pm..nor-easter has killed my spot... ribbon weed everywhere, but i pushed thru for half an hour before i cracked and headed to the north channel i was surprised to see only 4 fishos on the wharf and settled in to flick some plastics...4 casts later i swear change jigheads cast again swear again, and change to a hook and big ball sinker because the current was hammering out.... here started the fun my mate was midsentence baggin me on the quality of my prawns when i caught my first bream at 29 cm, a nice healthy fish... next cast gets hammered repeatedly for no hookup... he stops whinging and baits up... i said hey i'm a tightass and i had to empty the bait freezer.. a few undersize bream later i catch a whiting at 30 cm and then another one on peeled rancid prawns... then the surprise of the day an estuary perch of about 20 cm on a prawn that put up a great effort...the rain up here must have pushed everything down to the mouth.. i kept casting and they kept biting. nailed another bream at 32 cm and caught about 20 undersize some young fellas near me were spinnin plastics, but their missus was smashing em up using mullet fillet for bait.. she was hooked up every time i turned around, so i fished in my putrid bait baig and found 10 tiny yakkas that my mate bought last time he was up... i fillet one ,throw it out, flathead at 35cm nice back in the water used all the yakkas and on the last fillet i knocked up a nice 35cm bream that gave me some trouble... grabbed a tuna fillet and a mullet outta my bait bag and it was the same thing, heapsa bites a few hookups a lot of undersize bream, and 3 flatties all on legal....this was around the time i found "the rod holder"...as soon as my rod was placed into this special hole, bites would soon become hookups, until i picked up the rod again..(don't ask where local secret lol) i launched a big prawn out at about 9 pm and it got seriously hammered, 15 meter drag singing run followed by a few headshakes and nothing... dammit... from the bend in my rod i'd say 60 cm plus ... hit weight the next cast on tuna strip and i patiently pulled it in thinkin big flatty playing dumb, but when my line arced to the side a couple of times i knew what was up... " i need a net boys" "why?" "why the $%^& do you think-- a bloody big swimmer crab!" to cut a short story shorter my mate, god bless his kind drunken soul, botched a net shot and he was goooooooone...that was my fault though i should have netted him myself.... a consolation prize came along with a 45 cm flatty and i caught 2 30 cm tailor at 11.30 just before i left... all in all i had a crackin night and the fish were out and about... kept 3 bream and the 45 flatty, the whiting were stolen by my mate with the argument that if he took no fish home his missus would kick him out and he would have to move to my house, so i gave the man his whiting and counted my blessings , and my wounds-- bloody gill spikes cheers ian
  11. jorn.... what you are talkin about sounds like line twist.... when you spool up a rod you need to have it coming off in a certain direction (which i can't remember hahaha ) if you go the wrong way you get line twist and that causes knots...especially in thinner braids and fireline like your mate, my first solution is to go to the beach or footy field with a mate, pull the whole spool off to the knot and hand tension the twist out of the line... if that doesn't fix it then i worry about the line a lot of people who blame the line have line twist problems...
  12. i think the opposite, every time i use gulp they get destroyed and the squidgys are more resistant..... action is more important than name though ian
  13. fish the entrance early most days for flatties then i am heading to brunswick heads to my cousins house for 10 days to fish and ... probably chase flatties and mudcrabs , and maybe a bit of livebaiting on the breakwall... then if i'm not broke i will stop at taree on the way back and fish harrington with my mate for a few days i hate crowds so i fish early or late ian..
  14. i have caught a bunch of flatties that have zoomed off the bottom and hit a plastic off the surface.... last year i hooked one at 55 cm that got airborne twice on the flats...that was a spinout... he jumped once and i was thinkin no way.... and then he launched again like a barra shakin from side to side right out of the water These blokes asked me what was that and i said flathead and they laughed until i landed it
  15. you can use crab pots in the lake.... i pm'd u ads
  16. i started off on the sandflats oposite you for 4 flathead and then went just west of the bridge and got another 2 flathead and a couple of whiting, but the boys got a heap of really nice whiting.. ian
  17. where were you man... i was fishing down there from 4pm til 2 am as well....\ msg me and we'll catch up for a fish one day there were som many boats out last night you could almost walk across the entrance
  18. nice one man what'd you catchem on??
  19. of course... why spend money?? rzep... nice condition.. they all were actually stylo.. squidgy finesse heads in a range of sizes and weights according to tide ( and my tightass jighead supply).. fishlexic... clear brown sorta colour.... the waters dirty as at the moment and dark dirty colours seem to produce for me ceph... i figure at least i connected to and saw a bunch of fish....i wouldn't have kept more than a couple anyway so it save me gettin spiked lol ant.. i have seen a heap of flattys hold onto the tail of plastics and even pull drag...annoying but hey... sometimes i either strike as you said or if that isn't workin i will give the fish some slack to inhale it before i strike
  20. yesterday arvo at 3 i was goin crazy for a fish so i headed off to the entrance to get waist deep in water and cool off.. spooked a few on the way out onto the flats... started spinnin with new cheap soft plastc grub that i got for $2 for twenty lures.... needless to say i didn't change lures... took about half an hour then i got a huge hit but no hookup... dammit... 3 casts later got one at 40cm that bit me off at my feet... dammit... and same happened again.... dammit..\ hook another nice one that took nice drag off the reel and he spat the hook... dammit... lost 2 more, caught one and while i was dehoooking him he stabbed me in the gut and I dropped him ... dammit.. started to get a little bit annoyed... went down to talk to some blokes who were catchin a stack of whiting, dropped another couple, before i finally landed a couple of flattys... around 40 cm models... when i was swimming one back into the sandbank i spooked so many fish it wasn't funny.. no pics mainly because they all released themselves... plus its hard in waist deep water i've never had such a poor hookup to landing ratio.. on my way hokme about 9.30 talked to a bloke on the wall with 2 flattys and absent mindedly launched out a cast, bang on striaght away...some quick thinking and rodwork and i landed the guy at 42cm...ok fella, dinner is served .. it wasn't till i was half way home that i realised the quality of the session... plentyof good fish to be had at the entrance... cheers ian
  21. not just in your opinion bigfoot.... that is fact.... as for using a hose or pressure hose??? as big foot has said freshwater ruins saltwater fish and vice versa its called osmosis...ie if you put a saltwater fish in freshwater, the water has a tendency to try and balance out the substance in the water (ie salt) so the fish absorbs water... look here if you want http://www.purchon.com/biology/osmosis.htm i use the back of my filleting knife and that works better than any scaler, scaling is quick as anyway.. for large scaled fish like jews or groper, we tent peg the fish to the ground and use a shovel ian
  22. i agree with jewgaffer, nice tips there mate...... was the run long? or fast?? or both... flathead can swim bloody fast and hard, but only for short distances... like 20 metres , but if it was a long first run i would bet jew (or stingray lol)...
