  1. last years model stradics are cheap as at the moment..... you could match one with a berkeley dropshot for around 250 or less.... for that price i would suggest shopping around because you have a mountain of choice
  2. "Some other good spots are the rocks to the south and north of beateau bay. You can usually pick up a feed of bream, drummer and tailor around the washes as well as blue groper if you have some heavier gear and can get your hands on some red crabs." ads shhhhh... there are no fish at bateau bay lol . We might have to catch up 4 a fish one day seriously but tan, bateau bay rocks are pretty gnarly be careful, mainly because there is no escape route if a big swell comes...... 1.5 metre or less of swell on the lower tides would help .... drummer will still be around avoca is a good spot but crowded over xmas....i usually only fish there on overcast weekdays to beat the crowds also as noted concentrate your efforts on the less crowded (or less fished) rocks and you will do ok... my mate has been gettin flatties in the lagoon.. good luck and enjoy your time up here... ian
  3. lol your mum is wearing my two favourite colours for chasin flatties at night.... thats why she got all the fish....bloody metrosexual flattys love pink
  4. its called spin ......solid campaigning beats evidence hands down... maybe we should intruduce fishchoices
  5. i would be heading up the north channel ( north west side of bridge and up about three hundred meters or so........ plenty of nice whiting and flatties... i'm headin down now to beat the weekend rush so if i produce i'll let you know..... the fish move about quite a bit so you might have to try a couple of spots.... cast you lure or bait as close to the western side of this channel near the massive flats... otherwise if you are landbased the flats on the south eastern side of the bridge are always worth a flick for flatties, and with some stealth and light line you might get some whiting... gl... might see you there ian
  6. great work bloke.... thats what the world needs more fishing mums
  7. there are a range of saltwater fly material shops on the net...otherwise as said improvise... i've been experimenting with jigheads tied (crudely --i'm no fly fisho) with some of that saltwater fly stuff i got off a mate... mainly because tailor piss me off and a self tied jig comes thru the water with less resistance(read faster) and is cheaper than plastic lures that get destroyed...the results are interesting i like yourself prefer to make what i can myself, so i would tie them yourself and see what the go is i tie all my rigs when its too windy to fish lol ian
  8. one for dinner one for bait nice chopper ian

    Happy Birthday

cheers guys i did have a good day , didn't go fishing but had a few:beersmile:
  13. i find you have to fish them with a different action... the shads i just mooch along the bottom with pauses but the fish and wrigglers i try and use a lot more rodwork to actively swim them into, over and around weedbeds etc.... everyone has a different hot lure, but if you cannot get it to swim properly , it will be useless...action is king i can't catch fish on gulp minnows for example, but i have a packet of p/seed ones always because they get my inexperienced mates fish all the time... most of the lures and colours mentioned have featured in my box at some stage of the last two years, and last year i got sick of buying lures until i used em all and they all got eaten at some time or another. any of these will catch fish ian
  14. anyone who keeps or eats fish that they can't identify is pretty keen.... http://www.amonline.net.au/FISHES/fishfacts/fish/ngymnog.htm you can eat em, but the only wrasses i eat are groper and maori wrasse
  15. nice one...salmon that size fight hard on the light gear hey wd enjoyed the post ian
  16. i must admit i only lock my bloodknots when tying braid to swivels or snaps..
  17. lol look at crystalizers thread that is like a catalogue of hi tech 20 plus buck lures....
  18. a bloke i worked with fished there last year and said they were just catchin any live fish for bait up to a kilo, throwin it on a live bait hook under a float, and if a kingy didn't get it in 10 minutes a shark would...... i would take a few spools of line..
  19. me 2 for the squidgy in the shad and the fish same colour....for cheapies i usually grab bargain packs of curly tail grubs in whatever colour and if they aren't much good i use em for tailor

    Id Advice

just a tip to raiders out there.... if you catch something strange and want it identified on here when you take the pic try and get a shot that shows how many spines the the fish has in their dorsal / anal fins...safely of course makes id easier and also make for a much better photo... as an example i posted that wrasse pic a few threads ago...it was easy to id thru fisbase by counting the 19 dorsal spines , and entering that in fishbase with the region. cheers ian
  21. thats exactly what i was thinkin roberta... decisions
  22. i use the improved allbright from the platypus website and dont have much trouble using fluoro or mono...for hook knots just used a locked blood knot ( ie feed the line through eye of the hook twice in the same direction before tying blood knot )\ as said before though why use expensive fluorocarbon when you don't need it hope this helps mate ian
  23. i live on the coast and fish the entrance regularly...wd on the blackies theres a few spot that hold em this time of year, but thats a nice fish for the lake ian
