  1. I do not want to even think about this. It is way to much but then again I never wanted to be rich.
  2. Pred-a-tor, I am surprised that the commodore does not suit the purpose. Maybe it needs attention to. A six Holden, or any 6 cylinder vehicle, should not have too many problems towing a boat of your size. What problems are you experiencing as there are some issues when towing a boat that every tow vehicle might have a problem with.

    Re-fuelling Problems

Thanks Rod. I will give it a go. I also just noticed that the fuel tank was pressurised as it released air when I opened the cap. I will check the breather tube.
  4. My boat is fitted with a 115 litre underfloor fuel tank. This tank has two breathers attached. One to show when tank is full whilst refuelling and one normal breather. I have had an issue happen to me twice whilst trying to refuel my boat. Both times whilst attempting to put fuel in it started coming out the normal breather hose and would not allow me to add more fuel to the tank without it pouring out the breather hose. The tank is only about half full and no where near showing that it should be full. I am hoping that someone may have had this problem before or will be able to give me advice to solving this problem?
  5. Hi Justme, All motors should have thermostats fitted as without them they may not reach correct operating temperature. 70F is way to cold for a motor to operate efficiently. Normal opeating temperature should be around 70C which about 160F. This cold running will affect performance and fuel economy.
  6. I also went fishing at the Bay yesterday. We had a pretty quite day. Got one 60cm king but could not entice anymore. We also caught a few undersize flathead and bream. Tried different places without any great success but will keep trying and see how I go.
  7. I am looking at heading onto the Bay in the morning. Not quite as early as you but I am a bit concerned in regards to the predicted wind reports.

    Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to everyone. Stay safe on the roads and water and may all your fish be the ones you want. See you all on the water soon.

    Rebuild Cost?

There are people who can inspect the boat for you but that will not always give a true picture of the motor. When I purchased my boat I have it inspected including motor, cylinder compressions, etc. All appeared OK. A short time later I had the head pulled off to do a check and found one of the bores was stuffed. Motor still ran OK but was not sure for how long so I replaced the motor. Still very expensive when you do not except it. Purchasing a boat second hand, like most things in life, will always be a bit of a gamble. Most boat motors are plenty reliable. I have seen alot of old boat motors which are still running fine despite years of abuse. Best thing is to have someone look at it and then hope for the best.
  10. All fish were caught on lures and plastics. The fish were caught very near to the island.
  11. Had my belated Father's Day present of a day fishing on Jervis Bay with one of the local fishing guides. With me was my oldest son and his girlfriend. The morning started off by chasing squid for live bait. This was the first time I have really tried to catch these critters. What great fun. After a short time we had caught about eight. This was enough for live baits, later not to be needed, so a great feed. We headed towards the entrance to the bay and started trolling a couple of different types of lures on 4kg tackle. Within a couple of minutes we were hooked up to some great salmon. We basically caught these all day with the largest coming in at 68cm. Total number landed is uncertain. But the best was that to our surprise a number of kingfish were in amongst the salmon. We managed to hook and land a couple. The largest went 80cm and this was caught on light tackle. What great fun. We tried for snapper for a while but there was none to find although the sounder did show lots of schools of bait fish about. Hope to have photos of some of the fish posted later. A day I will remember for a long time. It is always great to get out and fish but so much better when you catch some and you can share that experience with your family.

    Boat Insurance

I have just tried to insure my boat with NRMA and they stated that they needed a written survey report less than 12 months old before they would cover my boat for agreed value. Club Marine stated basically the same. At present I am covered by GIO but reading their paperwork it is only market value although they have a figure on the policy. Basically this figure will not mean anything if I have to make a claim. All I am stating is to be aware because although you may think that it is covered "agreed value" unless it is specifically stated on the policy it will only be for market value and that can be a big difference.

    Boat Insurance

I have just been going through the boat insurance run around looking for a better and cheaper policy. From what I have been able to gather all companies will only insure your boat for market value unless you have had an assessor or a written survey report carried out on it recently. They do not tell you and you think you are insured for agreed value. Look at the fine print and ask questions. I was very surprised. Unless your policy clearly states "agreed value" it will only be for market value. Now the next question, does anyone know of an assessor or someone who can do the written survey report. I live in the Macarthur area.

    Vhf Help Wanted

I am hoping that someone in the wonderful world of Fishraiders will be able to help me. I have installed a GME GX600D VHF radio into my boat. I had it out for the first time on Sunday at Botany Bay. When I turned the radio on all I got was bck ground noise. I tried adjusing the squlech but nothing changed. I even turned off all electrics, including radio, sounder, motor, everthing but this made no difference to the radio. Has anyone had this problem before with this brand of radio or have any idea how I might be able to solve the problem? In the yard at home, about 50km from the water, the radio works great picking up both Sydney and Port Kembla clearly. Any help will be very greatly appreciated. By the way only caught 3 very undersize fish on Sunday.
  17. Thanks Outnumbered. That gives me a start. I will give it a go.
  18. Hi All, I need some help and advice. On Sunday I am looking at going fishing either in the harbour or Botany Bay. I have never been to either of these places so I require some friendly Fishraider advice. Which is the best place to go harbour or Botany Bay. I am coming from South West of Sydney. My boat is a 5.2 metre Haines Hunter. Can you advise me so some ramps that I could use which offer ease of loading and unloading, plenty of parking and security for vehicles. Last but most important can you give me hints of spots I should try. I normally do a bit of bottom bait fishing but occassional have a go at lure and plastics. If possible please supply GPS co-ordinates. I am not after secret spots but just general areas where it maybe possible to catch some fish and have some fun. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I normally go outside, at Port Kembla but the weather does not look too promising for this. In advance, thanks.
  19. Even if there is enogh power in the battery to crank the motor over does not mean that it will have enough to start the motor as I have had the experience before where the starter motor was taking all the battery power and not enough was remaining to allow the ignition to fire.

    Trailer Wheels

The type of wheels do not determine the type of bearings. My boat trailer has holden HT wheels but runs Ford bearings and my box trailer has Ford wheels but runs Holden bearings. It is normally the size of the axle. For larger axles and heavier loads Ford bearings are normally fitted and for smaller axles and lighter loads Holden bearings are fitted.
  21. Reading this thread is interesting. There are two types of systems available. The first type is a grid connected system. This is arranged so that all power generated by the solar system is feed back into the power system. At present you can get paid $0.60 per kilowatt hour the panels produce. The most suitable times for the panels to produce maximum power is spring and autumn as they are effected by the heat and cold. The second system is a stand-alone system which utilises batteries. This system allows your house to run off the power you generate. The 2 types cannot be used together due to safety reasons. What this means that is you have the first type and there is a blackout in the street you will have no power and your solar panels are not making you any money. It should also be noted that if you have the first sytem installed you are generating an income and this is taxed. Remember the government always wins one way or another.
  22. I am hoping someone will be able to help me. I have purchased a GME GX600D VHF radio for my boat. It has a feature where it can send GPS co-ordinates if it is connected to a GPS Unit. My GPS unit is a Humminbird 788ci combination unit. Will the GPS part of the radio work if it is connected to the Humminbird. Any help would be appreciated.
  23. At present I am looking at going down to Port Kembla on Sunday. Hopefully something will be around.

    Which Weather

The best weather forecast is to look out the window. It is the only one which is truely accurate.
  25. Great to see you back home. Rest up and enjoy life. You will be back on the water terrorising those fish in no time. All the best. Bruce
