  1. Most certainly a mowie or more correctly a morwong scientific name "nemadactylus douglasii". Pretty good eating as well.

    Tilt Trim

It has been my experience that most outboards use a separate relay for the up and down motion.

    Tilt Trim

Adzzy, the first place I would start to look at is the relay for the down movement of the trim. Usually these are the source of the problem and, generally, easy to replace.

    Epirb

I carry my EPIRB in a safety bag along with my flares and a few other essential items that way if anything goes wrong all I need to do is grab the bag anf I will have everything I need. The bag is kept in a side pocket and I tell everyone on the boat where it is. Hopefully I will never need it and it feels good to have it there just in case.
  5. I know it is frustrating but there must be a different size limits for commercial fisherman compared to us recreational fisherman. Just have a look at the size of the school prawns they sell at fish markets and in bait packets and then try to see with you can catch a prawn that size in a legal hand net. We can only do our bit.
  6. I was asked the same questions at Port Kembla a couple of months ago. I think giving these people the required information can only help therefore I am pleased to give any information that is asked (except for the keys to the boat up they can have the cost bill).
  7. The problem I have seen with most electric winches is that they are very slow unless you are wiling to spend over $600 on a Powerwinch. Then the problem becomes that you need to connect it up to the battery of the vehicle each time before you use it. I think most people do not have one for a reason. If they made life that much easier and worked well most boat trailers would be fitted with them. Just my 2 bobs worths.
  8. Unfortunately a magnet will not work as the pins will be made of copper. The only suggestion I can make is a small screwdriver or something similar so that you can grip the pin. Best of luck.

    Replacing Bearings

The wheel type has nothing to do with the bearing type. My boat trailer has Ford bearings but Holden wheels and my box trailer has Holden bearings but Ford wheels. The best way to go if you are not sure is to look at the number on bearing then use it to match to the right type.
  10. Very sad. I saw an accident about two weeks ago where a commodore towing a car on a car trailer went underneath a fully loaded truck. Unfortunately nothing left of the Commodore or of the bloke driving it. Accident was most likely caused by the Commodore loosing control because of the sway created by towing the car. All be careful on the roads out there. We need to keep you all as members here.
  11. Thanks for the reply Geoff. I will give you a call shortly to discuss. Anyone have an opinion?
  12. Sammy0884 I am sorry to hear that you could not get the cones out. Personally I have never had any problems. Sometimes heating the hub helps. But I would not use any new bearing with old cones. I have learnt over the years, after doing thousands of bearing replacements (My father owned a truck) that you never run a new bearing on an old cone. The cones and bearings are normally made as a matched item and running them the way you have put them together is a recipe for disaster.
  13. I am looking at installing the Durahub wheel bearing system on my single axle boat trailer. Has anybody used this system and can you supply me with some feedback as to how good it is or isn't. The last thing I want is to be stranded on the side of the road with failed bearings because I have installed it and it doesn't work properly.
  14. It is generally accepted that whenever an officer with some authority gives you a request that it is against the law to go against that request. Be that officer the police, waterways or some person with appropriate authority. It is always best to agree and move than to try a cause problems because, I can assure you, you will loose more times than you can win.

    The Dog House

So so true. If only we could learn.
  16. I would love to have been able to come but unfortunately not this weekend. Have a good time all. If some of the workshop is videoed put me down to purchase a copy of it.
  17. You should know better but you will learn in time. One simple rule with : When they say that something can wait to be done that really means that it can wait 10 minutes.
  18. Dependant on date I would be in and can bring the boat.

Some people have too much time on their hands! I must be one of them trying to play the stupid game.

    Vhf Problems

Two way radios are an interesting breed. It is not uncommon for people to hear other people's transmission but not be heard in return. This is where message relaying is required to be used. Your signal may not be reaching the intended boat although you can hear them. Next time before you go out ask for a radio check from the Coast Guard or a base station.
  22. The best area at Batemans Bay for catching fish used to be around the Toll Gate islands but they are now part of the protected areas which extend a way out to sea. I have tried further up the river many times without catching too much but it will not stop me trying again. Who knows I may be lucky the next time and catch the "big" one.
  23. Thanks guys for all your input. I have got it all checked out and all appears OK it is just that the back of the boat sits a bit lower in the water.
  24. The caviation plate is at the correctly lined up to the bottom of the hull. It just appears that the rear of the boat sits low in the water when at rest and slow speed.
  25. The motor is the correct shaft length for the hull as it is the same size as was originally fitted. It is only when the boat is not moving or at a slow speed that the water outlet is below the water level line. My boat has the transom cut quite low compared to the overall hull height.
