  1. PeterS, Looks like you had a great day. Looking at photos like those of the coastline and sunset always reminds me that we live in the best place on earth. GOOB
  2. Mariner, Thats awesome. I would have loved to be amongst them on light gear. Never caught one myself, but bet the would have been great fun to catch. Onya GOOB
  3. Great Lizard mate. Always a surprise when the big ones get interested while you are trying for something else. GOOB
  4. Nice Flattie there mate. You'll end up like me and try to get them bigger and bigger each outing. Bet you had a smile a mile long with that one. GOOB
  5. Congrats on your Jew, WaterRat. I am yet to get one over 60cm myself and am envious of raiders that have. One day I hope to change it. Jewgaffer, I along with probably a lot of others would have cut the bloody Eel off rather than try to untie it. I hate the slime they leave all over your hands etc. Good Job GOOB
  6. Rodholder, Great Jew. Gotta love our Aussie tradition of a sickie for getting you amongst 'em. GOOB
  7. Dodgem, A nice Kingfish? That is a bloody cracker. You got to be happy with that one. Looks like I'd need at least six months in the gym to land a King like that. GOOB
  8. That is a cracker of Kingie. Well done.
  9. Trust me, he still hasn't let Red and me forget. I was just lucky he wasn't on board this year. I may have thrown him in as well. Plankton, Only Jewie we saw was about 40cm and was returned to fatten up for next time. Raiders, Here's the other one. I forgot to attach the pic. GOOB
  10. G'Day Raiders, Spent the weekend on a houseboat with 8 mates. Its an annual trip that we have been taking for the last 15 or so years. We got on the boat at Brooklyn at around 5:00pm after someone nameless forgot half the supplies and had to drive half the way back to Sydney to get them. Lucky for us some of the girls were home rather than the nail salon Friday night saw a few good bream and some average flathead come aboard and magically land on the BBQ. I new there were better things to come, or should that be bigger things. Saturday started off fairly quiet, lots of Port Jacksons and the dreaded Catfish. Poor Pete will be a lot more wary after being spined in the shin. Not much you can do if you get spiked other than the old hot water. Not much fun watching a mate suffer for a couple or so hours. Anyhow, enough of the sad, lets get to the good. I started flicking around a 120mm Slick Rig while soaking some baits on another rod for Bream. I was about 20 minutes into it when the plastic got munched. The pic with me in the black jumper with the Guru shows what took it. A couple of snaps and and a measure, 89 cm, and in she went to breed some bigger ones. Sunday morning was wet and cold but I just had to have another crack. The pick with me in the T shirt shows Flattie number 2, 86cm, before she was released. I also hooked what I thought was a good fish on a live yakka only to be let down 15 minutes later with the biggest meanest Pike Eel I have ever seen. Both Flatties were caught around the entry to Americas Bay in about 12 metres. GOOB

  12. Great job on the Kings guys. I am glad to see they are still hanging around, even if at times they are a bit of a hit and miss affair. GOOB
  13. Thats a super link. Don't tell Johnno though, his 98cm Flattie equals around 7kg by that and it did come in at a touch over 7kg when weighed. The bragging will never stop.
  14. Son's going for one on one lessons with an instructor, wife thinks I am not tough enough on the kid, he should be swimming marathons or something. That session was a quiet on when John got the flattie. We got a few squid earlier in the morning, but that was the only fish for the day that John got. He is getting a bit more excited though, even thinking of investing in some of his own tackle. Say Hi to your Familia for me. Gabe
  15. In defence of my brother Uncle Johnno, he doesn't fish a lot during the year, nowhere near as much as the rest of us and when he does he only ever keeps 1 fish for the table. How many of us can say we only ever take just 1 legal fish and pack up for the day?
  16. Too good is right. That is an awesome fish. Congrats. The only hard part is that as anglers we always try to beat our PB's. I think with a bit of time and some luck it will happen for you mate. GOOB
  17. Andrew, Thats a superb King mate. I hope it had a few brothers and sisters of similar size cause I'd love to have a crack at a Kingie that big . I haven't got anything near that in the bay and I've caught my fair share. The Producer is a very appropriate name for you. GOOB
  18. Good to see that the river is going well after the trawlers are gone, and our licence money is helping restocking. Dunno about you guys, but I'd be happy landing and releasing small Jewies, knowing that they will be back bigger in a few years. GOOB
  19. Red, You could only imagine the number and variety of lures 4 blokes will bring with them on their first Barra trip. There was everything from MANNS strech 10's, Bomber magnums, Halco poppers, Predateks, Rapalas, Storms etc. But believe it or not, the most productive lures were the shallow rattlers such as the Storm Shallow Thunder and Rapala Super Shad Rap ( which also happens to be my Jewie lure of choice, as you are aware ) anything that generated some noise and splash. This does not mean we used hard bodies exclusively. Some plastics in the 6 inch size were also included in our arsenal, but we will have to research jig heads to find something somewhat more robust than what we had. As for cold beverages, there were many indeed. God bless the genius that came up with the evakool. Still, nothing beats an ice cold Pepsi Max Paul, Let me say it was worth every penny. It does get a bit expensive when you include tackle etc but quality gear lasts a long time. Try and get some bay and ocean fishing in when you do get up there. I didn't and am slightly disappointed to say the least. I hope to be reading a report from your Barra trip soon. GOOB
  20. Johnno, Thanks mate. It was a great trip as you said, but hard to organise now that my mates and I are married with kids. I'd love it to become an annual odyssey. The only let down was I didn't get a Mangrove Jack. I've heard they are better fighters than Barra and even better eating. There's always next year
  21. G'Day Raiders, Just got back from a great 3 day trip up north to fishing mecca. Lots of fun catching Barra and some muddies in the salt at Buckingham Bay. Bloody hot and lots of mozzies but otherwise great. The first day fished a little slow, everyone was on fire the second day and for the third day Poseidon must have told his mates where we were, because we didn't even turn a reel or fill a pot. The best thing about it however was the eating. Barra sambos and chilli crab. It doesn't get any better. Oops, Sorry raiders, I forgot to add the pics to the previous post.
  22. What a ripper, beats my first King by a mile. The fight would have made great video. GOOB
  23. Humesy, I agree with the squid ink as a king attractor as mentioned by Fishlexic. I often empty the water of the squid tank overboard when fishing for kings as the squid have filled this with ink on capture. Also, fish the baits a couple or so metres off the bottom. I find the live baits have a little room to swim and fish better that way. GOOB
  24. What a great way to get kids away from the TV or Playstation and introduce them to our fantastic sport. My young blokes only 3 years old, but I can guarantee you that I will have him out there soon enough. Great work Nexus GOOB
