  1. Does this charter fisho have a name Dodge ? It would be nice to give him a wrap
  2. No it is a fish with 3 sub-species. Spagettii neoplolitanea,Sp.bolognesea ,& Sp.marinarea. Apparently all 3 tpyes are DELICIOUS
  3. There has been a reported sighting on the southern Tasman Peninsular of a "Spagetti Fish". Apparently these fish have been caught occaisionally in tropical deep water off Java. It may be due to changes in ocean currents due to global warning that this has occured. Has anyone noticed any other odd things turning up lately? Please reply.
  4. They have been getting Sambo's & Kings up a far as Greenwich for the last two years, although the last spell of wet weather put them back down-harbour for a while
  5. I vote for fish.....shellfish.It may be selfish but i want crayfish!
  6. I have fished for bream for years and have obseved that in shallow water or slow current situations they almost always 'taste',the bait twice, before swallowing it and moving off. When they are 'tasting' they lip the bait and move it a short distance before immediatly spitting it out,and watching it.They repeat this a second time and if satisfied that it is OK return and eat it.If the bait moves after they have tasted it they swim off.The 'give' in fine mono (up to 20% of the length) would allow a small amount of stretch easily but braided line would tend to pull the bait back to its original position. To avoid this problem you can leave the bail arm open, but unfortunately braid pulls off the spool with much more noticeable resistance than mono, thus alerting the bream to the presence of line. Whether I fish for bream or kings if i put the rod down for any reason i always open the bail arm !
  7. You fellows know your stuff .I lived at Avoca for a few years and can vouch for everything that's been said. Its especially dangerous on the rocks with brown/black slime. All of the platform is deadly on a rising swell and tide,if the swells(se) get to 3m+ WATCH OUT. The main problem seems to be people who have fished hear in previously good weather and the fact that the rock platform cannot be observed(except from the cliff top) on the walk round there.Once you get caught there is NO ESCAPE ROUTE.
  8. Penguins can't eat them ,penguin.Seriously though, they are dead set ringers for fresh water Angel Fish, deep diamond shape in silver with a strip (black) through the eye vertically. They also have a nasty spine at the front of both the anal & dorsal fins, because of this and their wide body they probably choke all fish that try to swallow them, except for perhaps Mackeral & big Tailor with cutting teeth.
  9. Grading Kingfish;mouse,rat,.........hoon,bandit,mobster,hoodlum,godfather ! How about it ?
  10. Maniac when your drag SMOKES you will know you have overcooked it
  11. Sebastian,I think you me and at least one other FR have the SAME spot 'X'. Think we should now rename it SPOT 'XXX' ?
  12. Hey Penguin,I noticed that too ,the last week or so the Kings have been feeding in the PM rather than their normal mornings. But I have a hunch that over Easter they will return to the normal pattern (based on tide data) Nice kid you have there, good to see that the feather/stumpy leg genes havn't been passed on to the young'un !
  13. They must be from outside Sydney Harbour !

  17. Hi Ceph ! Heard that a King was landed further up inside the Harbour at Walsh Bay yesterday by some lucky young fella.Guess I was wrong to assume that the fresh would drive them down towards the heads. This happened last year ,but in the spring ,when the water was cooler.
  18. Fished the lower reaches of the Harbour.Lots of bream 30-25cm ,Trevs to 28cm,Luderick 33cm ,and a few midday squid ,arrow +calamari 4 to 20cm hood .Had to work for them all species and use light gear- 2kg.Lost a few bigger bream +trevs.Spotted lots of tiny 20cm Frigates (Big King baits) no joy on lures-too big-maybe a fly would do.A Jew was caught at Watsons Baxw wharf last nightfrom the scales i est. 4kg.
