  1. Finely chopped pillies IMMEDIATLY,do not feed them chunks until they come to you and eat the entree first! You just allowed them a free lunch down deep ! Finely chopped pillies (or even just pillies scales from the defrost bucket) serve a twofold purpose, they give the Kings a 'taste' for the bait or other food, and they stimulate a lot of activity from smaller fish which in turn turns the Kings curiosity switch on.
  2. The pilchard theif is a cephalapod!
  3. Penguin, you MUST stop eating the bait pillies.I know how much you want those tiny little legs of yours to grow, but you are messing up that nice "Black Tie" suit of yours ! On a more helpful note those Kings CAN be turned from lookers into takers They are following the Trevs in hopes of 'stealing 'their food ,much like a bunch of seagulls will fight madly over a piece of bread while a chip lies unnoticed in the gutter. It is the COMMOTION that attracts them. When you raise a fish that the kings follow dump in the water 6-12 finely chopped pillies IMMEDIATLY you see them, before they go back down. Then feed cubes 1 or 2 at a time with a hook embedded inside 1. And bingo you're ON !
  4. Stylo are you trying for Jews or Kings ?
  5. Nice fish B B. Got to turn the tables on the pickers! My dinner....
  6. Well done,I'm sure those pics of a great fish only show a small part of the beauty of one fresh out the water.
  7. I can sniff out cabbage at 50 paces !
  8. That can sometimes work,it is important to "tease" them ,before presenting a jig . I ALWAYS observe how they approach the jig,it indicates to me what I need to do to get a take.eg if you see them 'taste' the jig and back off,it is wise to use a scent/spray to flavour it.
  9. I'd say it was poetic justice Penguin......especially as you were thinking "Kingfish"
  10. Next time you go it will get a LOT more crowded......for you will be a 'marked man',Mark !
  11. Tony's pretty much right about their shyness to jigs when they are visible. But I did get them on jigs because I have a special technique......
  12. Lost 2 jigs & got 1 squid, 33cm hood. Miscast into snags & lost the pictured jig,a larger squid too my 'tiger prawn' jig for a swim in the Balmoral pool disentangling itself on the shark net on the way into the enclosure
  13. Went back to near this spot ,the kings were there still but shy ,had one take on squid but missed the hookup.I did get a huge bust off on 24kg gear and large livey!Still wonering what it was ? Had a similar thing happen 2 weeks ago and the tailor was crushed but had no cut marks at all. This time the 50lb Maxima mianline was cut and 2m of line + 3m of Ande 60lb trace was gone too ! Could the man in the Grey Suit be responsible ?
  14. That is a seriously solid specimen ! Well done you fellas. I have hooked a few of this size and boy oh boy do they ever get cunning. Can believe all that about it trying to rub the line through on the boat/motor....well done again
  15. Sounds like u had a great time,were your guide's initials A B ?
  16. Great read & story ,I wonder how many times Kingfish have done this to unsuspecting anglers.
  17. And boy did he go though he was at least 80cm! I must admit not all the fish we caught are mine,or in the photo either,my fish were the 'tuna' one and one of the +80cms fish
  18. Sorry about the image quality it was from a phone. Got them in the middle of the harbour in shallow water,we were not after them but Mulloway but couldn't get the right bait. These fellows followed a berley trail. No one was around guess all the bad weather must have put them off !
  19. Went after jews this am and got these instead!
  20. I also got one about 40cm a few days back, put it out with a big hook in its back......and bugger me if I don't get a huuuuuge run.Failed to hook up,but felt the weight of the fish before he spat the tailor ,and it was BIG.
  21. I always like to fish in overcast conditions ,the fish in shallow water are less spooky, but it's the wind that 'spooks' me!
  22. Nice photos and report. But did I miss something ? Why was it 'Cheekey' ?
