  1. I often ponder on the possibilities of this while fishing the "Dark Hours" I'm sure I have come up tight on Kingfish a few time but never landed a kingfish at night or seen any. It might just be me but I have never really seen one caught at night ever. Come to think of it I have never even heard it come up in conversations that kingfish are caught at night either. Does anyone catch kingfish at night? I am thinking Tailor are Pelagic too and they are a popular night fishing species and are regularly caught, so what happens to kingfish do they sleep, hide or go out to sea? Thanks All Cam
  2. Riley, I caught a few whiting on the Blades down the Basin on Sunday. They were not large fish but still it was good to finally get a few on blades. I was just using an up and down action off the bottom on sand flats in about 8-9m of water. My mate Ben cleaned up on them too on Sunday with me. Cheers Cam
  3. Diver good on you mate, at least you had a go and no matter what size fish you still produced the goods! look at your packet mate, on the back it tells you what holes are suitable for what. I use the midle because it gives off the most vibration and slows the lure down alot. I use it like a plastic for flatties but very gentle if you know what i mean. The water own's a few of mine already so yes keep it off the bottom. You must pick it up before it drops otherwise you will snag or fould up with weed. Be gentle and finnese! Dont be eratic thats how i use them anyway diver. Cheers Cam PS: Thanks Roberta, it fought good too but now sorry couldnt tell you if it tasted good or not because its still swimming around. I dont mind the blackie in foil whole on the fire.....YUM!!!
  4. Yeah well it wasnt a fluke fella's this one smashed my blade at sussex on sunday!
  5. Well done boys! Looks like you still managed the good's regardless of the temperature. Cams-Corner will always be a productive spot as long as it has my name on it Cam
  6. Thanks Gary, yes i will keep you updated on my new found sucess Cant wait until the weather warms up a bit, fish will be going nuts over these things. Mick, thats no good to hear, thought this post would have given some sought of encouragement to have a flick with them. Some of us are just to loyal to the old fantastic plastic. Dont give up that easy mate. I think your spot on there, the Bass season will be an interesting one this year. Thanks guys Cam Yeah Bob, the weather wasnt too crash hot on Wednesday either overcast Southerly, but it didnt get me down...just wet Oh my when i saw the Blckfish i thought i was seeing things maybe a new species....but nope she was a blackfish.
  7. Well done on the Blackies, nice feed there. How do you like to cook them any secret recipe? Cheers Cam
  8. Hey Ryhno, SX40's are small bibbed harbody lures and blades are small metal lures. Cam
  9. Roberta, Very simple design but great action. I am obsessed with them The water averages depth from 0.5m to 3m. It was over sand and weed. Cam
  10. Morning Everyone, Yesterday the weather was pretty average but it seemed ok to go for a quick flick, the predicted weather was rain & wind and it was windy but wasn't raining as yet…. I have got my self a few Blades but am yet to get any decent fish on them, except for the lost lizard at Tuross on the weekend and a few Sweep and other things. So I headed down to this little spot of mine. The water at this spot is Brackish and does often become intertidal during parts of the year, it hasn't this year as yet but due to heavy surf help feed its upper reaches with some new salt water. I have found this to make the fish pretty active. Nice coloured water plenty of snags and a quiet secluded area provide the near perfect fishing habitat. These Blades have a very heavy vibration but are fussy to a fouled hook or some weed. They also cast exceptionally well so keep a keen eye for how far you're actually casting. I was using the 1/8oz TT Blades in Pure gold. I started to flick around and it wasn't long before I was connected to a Bream, yeah not much size in the little beggar but it was a Bream. I found that the drop and raise technique was proving deadly and this offers the Blade to vibrate before sinking in a mundane fashion to near the bottom before up she goes again vibrating to the top then sinking…..you get the drift This technique proved not only deadly on Bream but I wasn't long before little lizard scoffed it down and did a little aerobatic display before posing for a quick shot and he was off again. By this time I couldn't give rats if it rained I was having a Ball and these blades were slowly winning my heart over plastics…. It wasn't until after a few more fish when I was connected to what I thought was a bream at first until it a few weird runs & pulls made me change my mind. I haven't caught a blackfish in years so I forgot what they fight like so when this little guy surfaced I was stoked!!! I have caught blackfish on wobblers before but Blades! Ha After that I was just about to trek a little further but it started to really pee down so I called it an afternoon. Good Little sesh for the day anyway. Cam
  11. Thats going to be a mad rig mate! Good luck with it and make sure you keep us all posted on your progress and the finished product. Im am a patient person but not sure if i would be patient enough to endure a task like yours, i would like to know what it feels like to ride in a boat i made. Maybe one day. Good Luck Cam

  16. Some anglers will catch Big flatties in their lifetime and forget about the fight but never the fish. I think you will always remember that fight .....Chasing a flattie like a Marlin so it doesn't smoke you was absolutely bloody GOLD!!

  18. Awsome mate!! Nice catch. Sounded like it put up a good fight too Well done again Cheers Cam
  19. Hey Mate, If your in need of a Jew fix head to Port Kembla Harbour, the most accesible spot (and popular ) spot to land a nice Jewie would be Christie dr in Port Kembla Harbour (Outer Harbour) its off Foreshore rd. A Wollongong st directory will get you there or GPS. Once you turn into Christie dr keep driving until you reach the white markers on the centre of the road and then look to your right and that will be the spot. If your chasing Jew on Bait i would be using a live bait preferably a Yellowtail,Squid etc... If your using lures try big bright plastics (stick to Naturals like Gulps). Off the front there its 24m deep so a big long cast is needed for a non-snag retrieve. The main eastern break wall offers a pretty diverse range of species and accesibility to good water its at the end of Foreshore rd which is off Darcy rd. See info here http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=32357 Hope this helps Cam
  20. Good Sesh there Greg Top Breambo too Cam
  21. Hey Folks After some time of reading Hodgeys post about the super estuary system he and Dene call home I had a feeling of religious zeal to one day ride shotgun with the Poppering pro's. On Saturday morning I made the long drive from Wollongong to Tuross Head. Hodgey had given me a meeting time of 8:30am but I was a little late but the boys waited for me so it was all good. We launched at 9am and headed for a well known spot that the boys like that has been producing some good winter lizards in the last month. After a few cast the boys had some fish on the board. So far I had none. The weather on Saturday was awsome we couldn't have asked for a better day, a small breeze to aid our drifts would have been nice but all the same they air was crisp and the sun was warm. Everything was quiet on the water until Dene comes up tight on a fish, after a few seconds she woke up and ZZzZZZZzzz she was off. After a few good runs and shakes Dene landed a nice specimen of 65cm. In between the thousand casts I laid out the boys had already got ahead of me with a few each on the board. We moved on to some more famous flattie water and it was now being very positive that I was going to land some fish. After a few drops Dene had two more fish on the board and I just kept hooking tailor! We spent some time drifting and the spots did produce fish but Dene & Hodgey were adamant that it wasn't the estuaries full "Winter" Potential. It was interesting to see some adaptations that Dene and Hodgey had for their winter fishing. Its wasn't Dene's croc shoe's with socks either .In winter flatties just like people are allot more lazy than summer, they are still able to be caught but Dene & Hodgey use a very finesse and patient techniques which Involves working the lure slower, they were still being erratic to make it rise and drop but when it came to the retrieve to make the lure move it was a gentle operation. The flatties were only just holding the lure in their lips which meant one wrong move and no fish! I was cocky with my Atomic prongs and I know flatties can resist but the boys were kicking my conceited ass with their gulp mullets i felt like Greg Norman with a bent club! The Scented lures were the ones working and it didn't make the flatties scoff them down but it helped them hold on long enough in their mouth to get a solid hook up, but the net was constantly at hand because they were all very neatly hooked about 2mm from the edge of the lip! So a careful approach to hooking up was always taken. We moved on to another spot closer to the sand bar to do some drifts. It wasn't long before the boys landed a few more fish of average size; all the flatties landed were broad and fat. Finally after much anticipation I was on, we called it for a Bream due to the hard time it was giving me and once sighted we realised it was a nice silver Trevally, I caught it n the atomic prong in Caroline pumpkin seed with a little bit of scented cream ultra bite. I then tied on a TT Blade in gold, and boom A fish was hooked and started screaming off after a few moments a nice flattie was near the boat it won its freedom before it was landed but the boys said 50cm+.Dene came to the party of me landing a fish with a nice Bream on gulp which was landed and released; it was a great effort because the lure was a lot bigger than the size you would target bream on. Saturdays count was Dene 10, Hodgey 8 and myself 3 plus A Trevally, Tailor, Trumpeter. Sunday was a little different with a forecast of high winds and a spot of rain, well up until the late afternoon the weather held in there and we were blessed with some great fish and a more productive day than Saturday with the two famous spots fish first and some nice fish landed. We moved once again closer to the sand bar where a lot of drifts were done with some more great fish landed, we named it Cams-corner and Dene's was very empathetic in continuing on drifting as I was on fire and catching fish. Hodgey and I were on fire with our Lime tiger 4" minnow and I was soon catching up with 5 fish under my belt. Hodgey did this awesome cast right onto the edge of the weed and sand and then tug tug boom!!! This was the hardest fighting flattie I had ever seen. It was running as fast as a ray and shaking like a snapper. Dene jumped in the driver's seat to help Hodgey in the fight of the season. After some time looking at the bottom for the fish she gave in and come to the surface. One big broad lady with shoulders like Giann Rooney she was a beast of the River. Dene attempted to net her but she wouldn't fit, she did finally fit the net and Dene's one handed attempt to lift the net turned into a two handed net lift it wasn't old age either its because this fish was bloody heavy After some sweating Hodgey ripped off the big jacket and quick measure and photo were done before she was placed back in the water and swam off like she had done it a thousand times. A great day it was and after that Dene thought he would join the gulp minnow party but retired early and very thoughtfully piloted the boat in the strong wind that was making our drift very quick. Thanks to Dene's driving over the flattie spot my count for the day ended in 6. Hodgey was well ahead of both of us with 16 and Dene probably would have a few more if he didn't help me but ended the day six short of Sir Hodgey with 10. It was a top weekend and can't wait to fish with the guys again and even though I fell short of fish against them it was great just to spend time with two very humorous and talented top raiders! Thanks again guys Cam
