  2. Hi Diver1, Mate have to totally agree with Grant, plastics work very well at night. Thats is how i catch all my jew! Good luck! Cheers Cam
  3. Nice one pmak, whiting do fight pretty hard. Some of them feel like a concrete pipe! Solid fish, solid effort getting up that early Awsome! Cheers Cam
  4. Hi Powersalt, There are so many spoken variables when fishing lures for Jew, I think musty is right once your in the right location then if you do everything right; correct lures for what baitfish are around, correct action then all you have to do is make sure your knots are done up nice & snug and hold on! I once had the philosophy the bigger the lure the bigger the fish….not really If you look at my post in lure fly report you’ll find I was getting soapies from 40-70cm on 7” plastics. I like to use strong reliable hooks especially the Nitro Saltwater series by Berkley. These jig heads incorporate an owners hook and they a pretty bloody strong. I found in my opinion that colour isn’t all that important, it’s more the action you give your plastic. I like to let it sink to the bottom then work your rod tip from the 3 o’clock position to the 12 o’clock position, but when you do it do it in three jerks. Then as your rod gets to the 12 o’clock position slowly lower your rod back to the tip down (3 o’clock position) but as you do this wind in your slack and then wait a few seconds and repeat the process. It’s all relative to how the fish are feeding as well. I have been in situation where there is Jew in large schools that won’t touch anything and there has been a time when I have been fishing bream and had a jewie nailed a crab….. Basically mate use the best gear at the best time & best place and you’re in the zone, local knowledge is very important too. Jewgaffer is an experienced Jew fisherman and has it nailed, if you have more questions send a personal message to him he will be gladly happy to help. Happy Fishing Cheers Cam
  5. Nice Kingies mate! JB is a old hunting ground of mine, there are some big kings there.I remember loosing a local king at the boat once must have been around 40kg mark. It had hooks, line, leader hanging from it gob & also had some scaring on its body. Was lost due to forgotton gaff and trying to lift a 80lb fish into the boat..... LOVIN IT TOP JOB GUYS! Cam
  6. Hi welcome to fishraider im Cam (soft-on) hope you get as much information & enjoyment as i do! Nice pic mate, i remember being there when i was very young. Cam
  7. Morning Raiders, I am looking at new rods, i am always loyal for Daiwa or the Shimano or ATC but i wouldnt mind swinging onto something else. I have seen them they dont seem to bad. I am more after information if anybody owns one of these rods? As you know mainly for Bream,bass,jewies..... Please give me feedback if you own one of these rods. Thanks all Cheers Cam
  8. I have an old flap jack made by shakespear, i also have a karoo kun the one with the ajustable bib. I have used the flap jack and scored nice tailor and a few kingies. Sorry guys will post photos later
  9. Well done guys, I havnt been to Lyall but i will sometime this year. I am hitting up Thredbo river not this weekend but the next. Good luck guys keep up the good work. No matter where you are its cold hard fishing this time of year. Quick question on the picture where you are looking back at the camera does that fish happen to have a blister on its side? All the best Cam
  10. We were welcomed by these dolphins while fishing for YFT on Saturday. Were were about 50kms out. I estimated that there were at least 200 dolphins. They were jumping and flipping but the camera didnt catch that as i wasnt quick enough. Awsome sight anyway Cheers Cam
  11. Great pics ray! There awsome when you see them in the flesh. They kind of scare the crap out of you when you first see them. Cheers Cam
  12. James, N.W Pencils cast extremely well (ask hodgey). They are a pencil popper and you can use them by putting you finger on the line to give them a darting "s" pattern surface action this is deadly. If you back track in the search for popppers in previous post there is plenty of history and info. Hodgey has a topic pinned in the lure and fly chat section its talks step by step about the fundamentals of poppers. Cheers Cam
  13. Early Saturday morning launched at Port Kembla ramp, headed out trolled for about 2 hours before the initial hook up. We were looking for a colder current but water stayed constant at 20.2c. The beauty was taken around kiama 100 took a halco trembler on the troll on 15kg line.
  14. soft-on

    Remoras?

Yeah not bad not much flavour (good fish cocktail), i was told to treat them like a trevally. The only thing is their full of parasites and poo!
  15. This poor little bugger was DOA at Greenwel Point Boat ramp floating around, from my guess he is from a few hundred atmospheres down Id say possibility he's come off a trawler? Can someone verify. Thanks Cam
  16. YOU'S ARE NUTS!!! lol great fish though, good excercise too! Nice one Cam
  17. Hey mate, Look as a entry level combo to start with thats not excessively expensive, bang for your bucks too i would consider a Daiwa regal 2500, they have everything a nice reel should and you get pretty good value reel around the $100 mark daiwa offer a 12 month warranty with this aluminium reel and its got all the daiwa features. Rod wise i would be looking at a shimano catana 6-7ft 1 piece these retail for around the $70 mark Dont go splurging on Daiwa Sensor braid or anything for your first plastic combo, i would consider the old fireline 4lb at around $30 for 120m it ample for your type of estuary fishing. Otherwise go see Rebecca & Tony at Fishfinder Bait & Tackle FISHFINDER B&T ALL UP = $200 Hope this helps Cam
  18. Pretty spectacular fight those longtom's, i hooked one on a small gillies pillie on port kembla beach and it shot out of the water on its tail! Well done roberta, yes would have been funny seeing you retrive that lure
  19. Yes, toe punts arnt a good idea while playing soccer with toads! Well i rarely use bait for jewies, but i have caught jewies on smelly old pike. Cheers
  20. Got so excited yesterday at work as i was looking forward to a prospectful night of EP fishing. We started flicking around Grenwel point for some Jew for a few hours but one hook up for just a few seconds and then nothing after that. As always flicking around the Regional Jetty at Grenwel Point always turns up fish. Scored a few very small flathead right below us and scoring a instant hook up with a tease of the lure in front of them. Upon leaving my plastic sit mid water of the jetty for too long gave a massive toad a chance to eat my plastic. This toad would have been 3kg+. I decided to leave the bugger sit on the jetty until he turned into a spalding and then with my water booties on (bare in mind oysters dont cut through them) i gave him a bit of a boot and oooooccccchhhhhh!!! Being slack to toads has its consequences i sufferd two puntures one on the front of my big toe and under the nail of the one next door!!!! It was bloody painful. I dont know if it left its jizz in the wound but the wholes wernt big enough to cause such pain. It dissapated after a while. There wasnt much size in any of the lizards there so we decided to head over to the coastal patrol jetty seeing though a nice flicking spot over at the Bowlo was locked. After a few solid hits i hooked up on what a first fought like a big lizard but then looked like a whiting and turned out to be a dirty smelly pike..... Flicking around the jetty's there tured up a few tailor, i threw a mong of a cast over to one jetty and snagged and by experience (i say lightly) i decied to do the straight rod huri curi to my line. After three pulls i was shot in the top right hand corner of my chest! I though i had been hit by a paintball!! My squidgy jig head hook had snapped and the whole lot without the lure had 30m to gather speed and slog me one. I was nearly sick!!! After two painful episodes we diceided to hit up the EP spot. 1 hour pasted and no EP's. Baitfish everywhere and alot of action, scored a nice lizard about 40cm, but that was it. Driving back along seven mile beach road at 1am we spotted a nice landrover with a tree nearly touching the passenger seat. Two guys said a car pulled out at the Berry intersection along seven mile beach road and they lost control and hit the tree at 70km/h!!!!! What i found unbeliveable was the fact they were talking at all!!! One guy had a saw kneck but other than that ok. The airbags didnt even deploy. Nice night last night anyway. Cheerio Cam
  21. Iceman, they are Atomic prongs in Pumkin seed Holo. I often put them in with the chartruse worm to re-colour them in fluro and then they work well at night. Cam
  22. Very Sad Event. Absolute apologies and best wishes to the families. I did hear on the 27meg that were reversing backwards when they had a yellowfin on and a wave came over the back of the boat and capsized them. I have capsized in JB before and it doesnt feel good, it affects you for days and weeks... Por Buggers Cam
  23. MMMMMM i wouldnt mind seeing some replies on this question, but what fish are you targeting?
  24. Morning Raiders, Not much to report for the weekend guys except wind burn .We went Chasing Ep's in Shoalhaven River on Saturday night, scored 2 smallies but wind was 50km/h+ so very untolerable conditions. Sorry Pictures are not up to the best quality. Cheerio Cam
