  1. Nice Dollies what bait were you using?
  2. Checked out seabreeze last week and decided today was the day to get out again in search of harbour Kings Decided to load up with live Yakkas, picked up 15-20 inside middle head. Trolled across to South head and picked up a couple of bonito on the way. Tried to sound out the elusive kings as we trolled south. A fishing boat was dropping some traps around the Colours and there was a fair bit of activity there. Pulled up for a couple of drifts no kings, 1 Sargeant Baker. Drifted back and forth yackers and squid picked to death still no kings. Picked up another couple of squid(good size). Trolled home for a donut. Yet again manged a feed and had a bit of fun
  3. Yes I believe you are correct, they were Macks not frigates
  4. Finally managed to get the boat out on Tuesday after a long spell and a few false starts Planned to get a few squid for Kingy baits and have a bit of a troll for some bonito that have been around. Managed a few small squid in front of middle head. Headed towards north head for a troll and a look, wind picked up a bit mid morning so headed around to Bluefish picked up a Frigate and a Bonny on the way. No Joy at Bluefish so shot across to south head. Dropped down a couple of fresh gars about 40cm long, to have them mauled by some rather large squid. Dropped a couple of squid jigs down on a patternoster rig and had instant results. Bobbed around for a while hoping to entice a king but no joy Decided to head for home on a slow troll, Bonito and frigates everywhere. Had to stop trolling or we would not have got home. All in al a great fun day With a feed to take home at the end
  5. Great Stuff, love to see the kids getting out for a go and getting a result
  6. Its true I caught a big Trev 54cm and he was also wormed out by the time i cut it all out got about a 50% return
  7. Nice work Doug , Top Effort by the missus I believe the ramp should be open real soon if not already I've headed out from rose bay lately Low tide at iron Cove in a 15 ft runabout is not a fun option.
  8. Slipped out for a quick lure throw this mornin with my mate Kenny The sun had a bit of sting in it. Cast every lure in the box. Lots of Mullet humming around, little bream, garfish and lots of small baitfish. A bit quiet on the good fish hookups though. I annoyed a flatty for a couple of minutes before he was liberated back to the depths. A pleasant mornings walk, before the breeze picked up.
  9. Nice lookin reel Ray. Look forward to reading of its conquests
  10. As stated previously that is a fish of a life time Top effort by your mate I am yet to open my Jew account, but havent fished for them yet either, can only dream that a trophy like that may come my way someday. I'll have a drink to celebrate the catch also
  11. Yes that is a sargeant baker. I have mates who have eaten them. I can honestly say I have never bought one home
  12. Plain old powerbait Original scent 2"power minnows
  13. Hernia op on Monday so no lifting for a couple of months. So decided to go for a fish this morning, as it may be a while before we get out again. Because our regular ramp at Fivedock is closed for an upgrade, decided to travel to Rose bay to launch. Will probably use this ramp a bit more for my mid week outings, toilets and parking good, wharf access so I didn't get my feet wet. Saved 1/2 hour steaming also. We were barely out of Rose bay, when we encountered a flock of seagulls paying particular attention to some water activity . Decided to investigate, shot a blade into the action to see what was making all the fuss, my mate pulled out a nice size tailor and there is a Tailor running around with a Strike Pro blade hanging out his gob. Changed to metal slices as the are cheaper, got a few for a feed. Went for a troll around up middle Harbour to no avail, bobbed around inside North head for a bit, not much happenin there and it was a bit rough also. Decided to come back inside and chase the surface action, found the birds working and the water boiling in taylors bay, masses of tiny bait fish in the water, the Salmon were oll over them, very fussy though, and quite skittish my mate managed 2 on his bream stick on 2"pumpkinseed power minnows, and they gave him some stick. I got a PB Trevally on same plastic at 1.8kg and 53.5cm Had a lot of fun and great day of very visual fishing

    Braid

I use a number of braids <20lb also. My light gear I use sunline Castaway 10lb IGFA it is super fine for light plastics and smal bream/trout HB lures. Also use tufline, powerpro and fireline have no real issue with any but the castaway is great on anything super light
  16. Yes this is good news, Was at the optometrist today getting new eyes and she told me 2SM had picked up the High Tide ball, apparently both Sat and Sun according to her
  17. Sounds Like it was a great day out had by all. Sad that I was preoccupied and unable to to appear. These days out are what fishing is all about. Congratulations to all that attended and of course thanks to the Swordies and Mods and all other members who actively take part in making the events happen.
  18. That is an excellent prize, and shows that a bit of research and direction pays dividends. Great Effort.
  19. Nice Squid, we fished Wednesday morning and our total was one squid about the same size. a bit quiet out in the harbour at the moment?
  20. If out in the salty stuff, generally give the rods and reels alight wash with some soapy water rinse off with with a light spray of fresh water ,dry with a soft cloth and a liberal spray with inox.
  21. Hmmm. would be brave to make a call on this one as there is no picture of the fish in question??????
  22. Sounds like a good weekend Mike. Gotta be happy with a few fish, your mate was lucky, could have been a lot worse. Good report.
  23. Been having a chat to a few of my mates regarding a fish at Lake Lyell before it gets real cold Are looking at Friday week. Organised the wood, mate at Woodford. White Mazda Dualcab ute PIX-113, if anyones there drop by for a beer and a chat around the fire.
  24. I believe that is one the same as my mate caught last year when they were travelling around in swarms looks like a goldfish to me (carp of sorts) they were there by the thousand, probably not as cold and they are running a bit deeper
