  8. thanks every one for the replys,i used to fish northhead murk and bondi shoulder to shoulder with all maner off people from all walks off life. so the pic brings back fond memorys off trevers all day every throw, pitty they had brown lips and were not for eating just sport, funny how not many replys from my local fishos in sydney harbor well to be honest the hole post was just to make every one who read it think about there own downrigging practices.ps the best we ever pulled was at bondi murk[ 120 tevers between 2people in 4 hours 16 years ago]hot bite smelly brown water. regards brickman
  9. hey roberta thanks for the reply,i've been a rockhopper for 30 years, untill resently.off the rocks the go was do'nt come in casting distance off me .since purchacing a boat i follow the same,say75 meters, but it seems to be a free for all out there,i resently posted a report on sydney heads with a good pic off a king on 6lb [sorry still rapped with that one]what i dident mention was while we hooked this fish we had 2 boats down rigging within 20 meters off us doing circles and working up and down our berly trail thats cool i beleave in carma and what goes around comes around,i just thought it would be interesting to see how many replys the post got and the reaction thanks again for the reply regards brickman
  10. hey raiders, how close is to close 1;downrigging,how far should you keep from uther boats, moving and not? 2;is it ok to circle a boat which has a pick down 3;is it ok to work some one elses berly trail i will be very interested to here what you think regards brickman

  12. cool looking boat chriso, looks like my 5m savege scorpion cubby, hope you got clears with it as we found them worth there weight in gold even in the harbor,if the boat is stored out side you may need a storm cover as well, the list goes on and on but it's all good fun best of luck brickman
  13. you will need a good glove as they have spiky heads and there tails act like sissors when they tail flap, had a very nasty cut the first time i handeled them under water good luck brickman
  14. went out at 3.30am to watsons picked up 12 yakka's.started to downrigg at old mans hat in 20m went to blue fish point, plenty off bait balls but no arcs ,skipped over to south head, again down rigged to roser gully and back no arcs.by this time old mate[neil] start's to go green so back to old mans hat to drop a pick.this is were it gets interesting, started to berly heavely, had 2 liveys out the back and 2 bream rods one on each side,we start to get little pinkys on the light rods ten or so later i saw a small king follow it up.had neil hold the pinky at the side.through out a yakka and it was'nt interested, but it kept following the pinky,i could have netted this rat but what would be the point, being a rat, anyway we let the pinky go the rat followed.next bait down[prawn on 6lb fire wire]hits the deck and bang big pull no run and did'nt want to leave the bottom, i called it a samson well after 3 mins still won't leave the deck every time i get 4 feet i loose 3' 11.5 inches, after 8 mins[neils keeping time]i know who is dictating terms and it's not me.after 15 mins we netted my first king out off a boat it went 75 cm and was the best fight ,second only to a jew many years ago off the rocks,we hooked 2 more rats at the back off the boat on prawn pieces on 6lb and had some fun but did'nt land them. left when the wind blew up, over to south head down rigged all the way to hms sydney zip.what i find interesting is we live baited all morning for zip,but berly up start at the small end off the food chain and bigger things follow just like off the rocks in the old days. brickman will post pic soon
  15. jake when i was a rock hopper we picked up kingys on the north side off barranjouy point, usually after a tailor session about 8.30 am with a high tide slow troll big garrfish on gang hooks with alveys hope this helps brickman

    Blackfish

hey greg, spot x for blackfish ROSSER JULLY,THE GAP,not for the faint hearted, only fishable under1.5 meter swell.need to be a mountain goat, but if it's blackfish your after there always there and there big.let me know if you want directions brickman
  17. hey nath,i've only baged i big jew in maybe 25 trips so do'nt feel dismayed they are the holly grail, and are so because they are hard to catch.anyway here's some tips[note i was a rockhopper the hole time chasing jew] 1;you must have fresh bait[fresh as in you just caught it]my fav. is tailer, full fillet or remove backbone and tail[head with fillets attached]we used 6 o or8 o hooks 50lb main line 80lb leader no weight and cast in the washes off the rocks.off the rocks jew take the bait the roll it around in there mouth to de scale the bait before swollowing it,this process takes about 30 seconds or 25 meters in line, try to set the hook to soon he spits it out,by by jew,so let him take the bait and start counting then set the hook hard, never give the bugger slak line.first run maybe 100 yards 2- 3 smaller runs then they just pop up knakkered.off the beach i would use ball sinker ,1500-2000mm leader and walk with the bait along the gutter[but i never fish the beach]anyway hope this helps good luck brickman
  18. nice jew;cut into steaks about 2' till you get 8'from tail then fillet the remainder brickman
  19. well dora creek that brings back good memorys, turn right just before bridge, travel about 2km till you can see the creek on your left and the lake on your right,STOP;you just found the inlet to the power station.try to park as offroad as possible, walk in to your right about 20m you will find an inlet with grates fully handrailed with floating bouys from one side to uther, this is bream mecca,THIS IS VERY FAST RUNNING WATER,IT GOES UNDER THE GRATES THEN UNDER THE CREEK TO THE POWER STATION YOU FALL IN AND GO UNDER THE GRATES YOUR DEAD.having said this it is fully hand railed and mesh fenced.THIS AREA IS UNDER 24 HOUR TV SERVALANCE FROM THE POWER STATION SO STAY ON THE PROPER SIDE OFF THE FENCE.IF YOU DO'NT THERE ON YOU IN A FLASH.i only fish this place at night with nippers, light line, live bait, light lead.long cast slow reteve, just enugh to take up the slak and bang thumper blue nose at your feet good luck brickman
