  1. hey raiders, the jacket went a tad over 500[i thought it was a huge flownder bugger] the pike is snapper bait for ron roberta thats a classic [after gutting it looked like a hand bag] hope to get out wed morning regards all brickman
  2. mate i have to agree with you on the light line.we use 6lb fire wire on bream gear, what a blast the kings are on light line, but the question is how light can we go,i brought some 1lb,but as yet have not been game to spool it up great post regards brickman
  3. hey raiders, went out 4.30am watsons for yakkas then to the gap.dropped pick at new spot ,2 hours for 1 pike[no snapper.no bonito,no tailor,NO KINGS] back to oldmans hat, berly up for zip.it took 1.5 hours and a blackfish hook to even get a pinky, finely have bait at the back off the boat, little garfish, caught 2 one in the tank one out the back for zip.caught the biggest jacket i've ever seen, fished for 2 more hours for zip pulled th pin at 10.30 headed home.desided to stop near the zoo to give the boat a wash[berly up] nice bream then 2 whiting [you know what happed next]zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz king on prawn, neils on,he never stopped that fish, line failed at swivel[6lb to be expected] out goes the live garfish to join the yakka, gar jets hammered by a tailor,5mins later the yakka starts going spaz as soon as neil picks up the rod zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz kingy this was a just legal king but his first this year, first from a boat.first legal king for my mate,i think i enjoyed watching him run around the boat fighting that fish more than catching one myself crapp morning with an action packed last 2 hours regards brickman
  4. well done nicnat, you do'nt need a pic, that one you will remember forever ,moreso for freeing the beast regards brickman
  5. hey james, how about a little pinky, had a rat chase one up and would no leave it alone.after 3 mins off chucking every thing we had at it we let the pinky go the rat followed, next bait to hit the bottom[prawn]gets smashed by 750 model.been thinking off molding a pinky lead bomb for the downrigger regards brickman
  6. hey roberta, fished for bass in the hunter and glenbourn when i lived up that way 5 years ago.we used live shrimp on a bream rig with one off the little green balls running down to the hook, this works a treat in shallow running water, were the bait runs along the bank through eddys and under overhangs, may be worth putting a shrimp plastic and working the overhangs[be it grass or willows they love any shade or snag]they will generaly hit any thing that swims in there domain[just like a bream] hope you smash them[i must now prepare for a night bream session on bonito strips] regards brickman
  7. brilliant, pure gold, must be why your known as jewgaffer great info mate thanks for that regards brickman
  8. your calling me champ hundreds in four years you must be a legand, thats it i will be not letting them run ever again
  9. hey james this is how we go about chasing kings.1;pick up liveys at watsons bay, about 5.00am 2;downrigg live yakka and fresh squid strip about 2 meters above bottom, old mans hat to blue fish point, looking for bait balls and arcs, there and back 3 if we have no result by 8.00 we drop a pick and berly up,2 liveys out the back, bream rods out the side 4;keep the berly trail constant.start catching pinkys and work your way up 5;i've caught more kings on pealed prawns this year on 6 lb fire wire than on the live bait gear hope this helps ps the 6lb fire wire is a personal choice most people would say i'm mad, but till you have fought a 750mm model for 15 mins and landed it,do'nt knok it regards brickman
  10. hey mat, there is no drifting, ancoring,or fishing under or either side of the harbor bridge,i think they brawt this in after a river cat ran over a small tinny killing some one.pick a quiet bay watsons would be good regards brickman ps,as for eating;not west off gladsville bridge, personaly for me not west off harbor bridge regards brickman
  11. hey kamil ever pulled in a grey lip,i have ,now i count to 6 or 10 if i can wait that long, have not missed a jew hookup for longtime, trust me let it run regards brickman
  12. thanks for the info roberta[pritty much what i thought you would use except for the leader]helps with the oyster leases ,about the windsurfers.why i asked was my sister and brother inlaw own and run a windsurfing school on the lake glad there not a pain in the ass.havent fished for blackys for 20 years or more, may leave it till my later years.but i love catching kings on 6lb in the boat. along time ago i hand my dads dads split cane rods restored[1hex one peace.1 hex 3 peace]heading up to see them in two weeks will take some snapps these are 60 odd years old and in as new nick both blacky rods will post them in fishing chat asap thank again for the reply regards brickman
  13. hey dave, try letting the jew run for about 6 to10 seconds before you set the hooks.jew tend to roll a bait around in there mouth to descale the bait be fore swollowing it.most jew are lost by striking to early.so next time you get hit start counting[trust me not before 6 and 10 if he is traveling in fav, direction] all the best let us all know how you go regards brickman
  14. hey nats doing it tuff, try starting in the afternoon.start at bottom off food chain and work your way up maybe some berly a can off snappy tom on a rope washing in and out good luck brickman

  16. in the last 2 weeks the only bait we have had reliable hits on has been peeled prawns, mind you we use 6lb fire wire ,at anchor berly up and start with pinkys and work our way up[all the time having 2 liveys out the back witch have been totaly ignored ]even on sunday at the gap all the above 2 550 kings 1 750 bonito and zip on the liveys we have had rats feeding at the back off the boat only taking prawns regards brickman
  17. hey humesy,i fished landbased for years off the rocks for tailor kings and jew in that order,we never pined a livey on the deck with lead[not saying you should'nt]but instead floated it just off the bottom.the rig we used was balloon or boby cork good size ball sinker about 2 meters from beck and 1 meter leader[trying to keep the livey 1 meter off bottom,i found if you keep the livey off the bottom he spends all his time trying to get there in a paniked state, not swimming in circles fouling the main line hope this helps brickman
  18. hey josh,i mate off mine fishes the lake often and was loosing the tails off his plastics, has since been using a stinger hook on the tails, his hookup rate doubled so he said, anyway it may be worth a go regards brickman
  19. hey roberta.great looking fish,i have a few questions 1what lb line do you use 2what bait for the blackys 3do you ever run into windsurfers on the lake 4ever fish for flathead in the lake regards brickman
  20. hey raiders just a quick report watsons 4.30 am 10 yakkas out to around the gap someware, berly up and start fishing for snapper.heaps off pinkys and trevs then smack were on to a king[about7.00 am] dam rats but good fun on 6lb fire wire after 2 550mm rats, the little shimano sahara starts to screem i set the hook and hand the rod to neil[yet to get a big kingy]sit back and watch the fun about 10 min later netted 750 bonito that was a surprise 6lb no leader 2 o bream hook.then neil pulls the biggest squid, bigger than the boni.all in all a great day with a mixed bag and plenty off bait for ron[i can feel a mid week bream seasion coming on ] regards brickman

  23. hey gary,we'll be on the harbor early tuesday morning, watsons about 4.00am for yakkers, then to the wedding cake for a bream session on 4lb.6.30 chasing kings,i try outside first[blue fish point then back in] south head to bondi]if that fails i head in the harbor .thats the plan so far. regards brickman
  24. with you there on the pro's,went out to the harbor tuesday early there were dead leathery's every were, from blue fish point to south head.i hate the little buggers but what a waste.i do'nt know were they were dumped, between the heads on there way in i suppose.here's an idea 1;get rid off the river cats from gladesville back to parra[that will stop the sturrup of dioxions and heavy metals layed down from the early days]give the breeding ground for sydney harbor a chance to do its job, clean the water[mangroves]provide shelter for fish fry.that would be a good start. regards brickman
