  1. Royce, I'm no expert with the fly, people have told me I would need a 5/6 weight to cast the bigger bass poppers. You could handle most fish on a 3/4 weight just not sure how well it would cast a bass fly.
  2. Rod there's plenty of water in our area you can fish. You could try Douglas park, Menangle, Camden or Cobbity. Fishing has been slow but should start to pick up after all this warm weather. Royce, there's plenty of room for a fly rod down there. I'll pm you some details.
  3. Hey Ben, I've had a couple of sessions around Camden this year, things are still slow. The fish are there but I think we need more warmth in the water before they fire up. Cheers, Dean
  4. Hi all, The bass are starting to wake up in the Nepean, had a quick flick before work yesterday and managed a few good sized fish all of the surface. Also spent a couple of hours in the kayak on Sunday around Camden. The fishing's still a bit slow in the upper reaches and I had to work for the few fish that were landed. I don't think it will be long before the fishing picks up, looks like it's going to be a good season. Cheers, Dean
  5. The lower end of the dam is full of rock walls. Use a spinner bait to fish these areas through the day and find the deeper sections then come back later and use the surface lures. Any big paddler will do, I like the kingfisher mantis jointed 85mm and mudeye depth charge 85mm both in black.
  6. Only fished there once, couldn't catch a yella but managed a few cod of surface lures. Dusk, dawn and after dark were the best times. Didn't get any hits around the reeds, all the fish came of the deeper rock walls. Good luck. Cheers, Dean
  7. Thanks Matt for a great trip, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though the trip out was painful at times the fishing and scenery certainly made up for it. Even before my legs and feet recovered I was already dreaming about our next trip down there. Troutboy the legs held up alright but due to a poor choice of footwear my feet paid for it. It took a few days to recover. Poddy trapper any small lure that dives over a meter would work fine, I've never tried sx40's but I'm sure they would work. I was using Rigge zipbaits, lucky craft pointers and megabass all in rainbow or brown trout patterns. Thanks again Matt. Cheers, Dean
  8. Nice, I've got 2inch dobinsons in my prado, they seem to work alright. Do you get of road much?
  9. Yeah love the colour of browns, no two fish are the same. Nth Island fish might not have the colour but they make up for that with there size, some of the fish i've seen are absolute monsters. 50 rainbows in a day is a top session. NZ is a trout fishers paradise, somewhere I would like to visit one day.
  10. I've lost heaps of lures to trees over the years, It hurts when you see 20 bucks dangling from a tree but can't get to it. I had another session with buzzbaits this morning, caught a fish on the first cast. There going to be my go to surface lure if I keep having sessions like today.
  11. Nice work Pete, I've got a few lures I wouldn't mind painting myself. What was the name of the DVD you use?

    Bass Session

Very nice, the girls look like they caught the bass bug. Give them a few years and they will be asking you to take them comp fishing.
  13. Nice fish Good to see you made it down to the river. The kids looked like they enjoyed the fishing. Well done.
  14. Nice fish Mako, fish like that certainly put up a good fight. Well done
  15. WOW awesome fish Would love to catch a GT, look forward to seeing the vid.
  16. Yeah fishing from a kayak, it's the only way to reach some parts of the Nepean. Buzz baits have a similar head and skirt but are worked along the surface. I don't think you can convert a spinnerbait into a buzz bait.
  17. Hodgey, darker colours always seem to work well for me. Ended up losing that lure to a good bass, the local tackle store only had red/black left, hopefully the bass like it. Any reports of bass in your area? That rain should of flushed them all out. Brianfishingmad, These fish were caught in the Cobbity Camden area but I've heard reports the rivers fishing well in the lower reaches also. Stoney, This was my first attempt with a buzzbait, so didn't use a stinger hook but I will next time. I had over a dozen miss hits and not all of them were from little fish, I think a stinger will improve the hook up rate. Basscatcher, I was told in the tackle store colour dosen't matter but I always prefer darker colours. I'll need a few more sessions to see if these lures really work or if I was just in the middle of a hot bite.
  18. Had a quick session this morning, things started slowly, after a while I tied on a buzzbait and started getting hits, eventually one connected and a 36cm bass was landed, my first on a buzzbait. The rain we had a couple of days ago was all we needed to stir the bass up. After a slow start I ended up landing 7 for the session and losing one. Definitely a buzzbait convert. First fish 36cm Another 35cm A few more around 30cm Cheers, Dean
  19. Great report Roberta, sounds like you had a good time. You almost need a GPS for those foggy mornings. Another place I need to visit. Cheers, Dean
  20. Only 2k's away, I'd be down there every second afternoon Did you get any rain overnight? Are they catching many redfin in the O'connell area?
  21. emetic, because of the smaller lures used I prefer spin gear. Depending on the size of river your fisihng a 1-3kg, 6-7ft spin stick with a 2000 size reel loaded with 4-6lb braid and 6-8lb fluro leader is all you need. Good luck in Canada, would love to see some photos if you catch a few.
  22. Was the Fish norto. Even though the rivers low at the moment the rain over summer kept the trout in good condition and they are certainly hungry.
  23. Hi All, After a long hot summer and the weather slowly cooling, I thought it was time to chase some trout in the mountains. I spent 6 hours fishing my Favorite river on Saturday. The morning was cool and the fish were hungry. As the day warmed the fish slowly went off the bite. The rivers are low and clear, I started with bright colored lures first and then changed to natural patterns as the sun hit the water. Megabass x55's and zipbaits did the damage, ended up with 19 fish for the day, all released. Lots of miss hits and dropped fish, also one redfin. April's going to be a great month to hit the rivers, especially on cooler and overcast days. Cheers Dean
  24. With all the weirs being upgraded I don't think the bigger fish had a chance of making it up the system. Hopefully with all the upgrades and rain at the right time we will see bigger fish mixing it with the smaller ones next season.
  25. Nice bass, I've had a couple of sessions up that way myself. Numbers seem to be down after the rain, but the fish are in good condition. Have you fished a lot this season, how have you found the fishing in general?
