  1. Bassboy, that's comp fishing. Not my first doughnut and probably not my last. Still fun and yeah you always learn something new. The buzzbait did account for a few, one of my favorites. Good luck at Glenbawn, should be a good weekend. Predator, I love spending time on the rivers, always so much to see. The fish are a bonus. Poddy trapper, had the place to myself again. The locals must have there own secret spots.
  2. Travelled down to Brogo to fish the first hobbie bass kayak round. It was an enjoyable day, but I really struggled with the fishing and only landed a couple of small fish, I did pick up a few new techniques for next time though. Well done to everyone who landed fish on the day. Fortunately the rivers are still fishing well, the bass have spread out a little after all the rain and no ep's where landed this trip. The morning sessions were most productive, the one afternoon/night session was a little slow, I don't think the southerly pushing through that afternoon helped. Fishing only surface again, Fizzers, buzzbaits and jitterbugs all caught fish. Also did a little exploring this trip and found some nice water high up, lots of potential but not many fish. The dry summer really affected the bass migration this year and I'm finding most fish lower down in the system. Cheers, Dean

    Bargo River

Might be hard work, with no fish ladder on Maldon weir it would be almost impossible for bass to migrate past the weir.
  4. fresh H2o, pm sent. Poddy trapper, I fished the river 7 times over a couple of weeks and only came across 2 locals one Saturday morning. Surprising considering it's the busiest time of year.
  5. Elferoz777, I've never fished the rivulet. Most of the creeks and rivers that flow into Lake illawarra will hold bass. I was fishing the far south, the Clyde, Duea, Tuross, Brogo and Bega rivers are the major systems down that way and apart from the Deua(which is suffering from a lack of rain) there all fishing well at the moment. Angus, occasionally I'll give the 6wt a workout. I'm currently looking into adding to my collection with a sage bass bluegill, that will encourage me to use the fly more. A couple of fly pics.
  6. Thanks for all the comments. Dutch oven It's not the shoalhaven this time, but i've caught plenty of fish around Coolendel on previous trips. Cheers, Dean
  7. . Hi All, With my favorite spots on the Nepean not firing for me this year I've been putting more effort into chasing bass along the south coast. I did a little exploring during our annual Christmas holidays, I was land based this trip and did catch fish but access was difficult and many of the better snag couldn't be reached. Since then I've spent a couple of weekends fishing the system, once at night but mostly in the morning. Some days were better than others but they all produced some quality fish, mostly bass with the occasional EP. Only fishing the surface Soft shell cicadas, Koolabung fizzers, buzzbaits and jitterbugs all produced fish. The Bass Ep's Can't wait to get back down there. Cheers, Dean
  8. WOW that's a great lizard your mum caught, it might take you a while to beat her PB. Nice bass and some interesting bycatch. Sound like you had a great time.
  9. No problem there, i've got the same kayak and love it. Great for chasing bass in rivers and creeks.
  10. Nice fish Bassboy. Lots of little fish in the river at the moment anything over 30 is a good fish, even better when there of the surface.
  11. Love the report Kyuss, I was thinking about doing the same trip over a day but think an overnighter would be better after your report. Was the track easy to follow down to the cox's? The rivers look like there in good condition and that was a nice brown out of the Jenolan, how far up the Jenolan did you fish. Hopefully the rainbows will run this season. Cheers, Dean
  12. Great fish Chris. The river fished well last month, good to see you got amongst a few and that your daughter is feeling better.
  13. Good luck with the move Hodgey. I'm also looking forward to a few Vic reports
  14. Great report, it brings back memories, although I try to forget about the walk. That's a great brown, were there still many rainbows in the river. Hopefully I can make the trip again this winter.
  15. WOW, what a great post. I can see why you love the place so much. One of those big browns would certainly make up for a few fishless trips. Well done
  16. Great report, nice fish. I was up on the Turon a couple of weeks ago(report still to come), caught a few fish that looked like they were getting ready to spawn, lots of colour. It's always fun exploring new water, catching fish is a bonus.
  17. Good looking water Geoff, nice and open for a beginner like me, when are we going ha ha. Next time don't forget the camera.
  18. Cam, it has been a long time. Good to see your still catching a few fish. Nice bass
  19. Great report Angus, looks like a nice stretch of water. I'm terrible at spotting fish but I'm sure I can see the bigger one in the middle, as for the rest of them no chance. Did you catch any of them.
  20. Noticed theres no cod on your pb list, that could easily be fixed with a trip over the mountains. Well worth the effort. The area has a lot to offer.
  21. Thanks for the comments. Ian, the fish were in great condition the purple/bronze colour is a great colour for cod, unfortunately I lost the lure after the second cod. The other cod and yellowbelly were caught on a bronze/amber colour. I haven't really fished for cod long enough to have a preference yet. All the trout were caught on zipbaits, Dave caught his fish on the rigge 35F and I the khamsin tiny DR and rigge 46MDR in natural colours. bombora, the place was packed. Turon gates looked like a costal caravan park during Christmas holidays and there were campers along the river all the way to Sofala, I didn't come across many people fishing though. Angus, did you live in the area at some stage, fish the Macquarie at all.
  22. Spent the Easter break touring the central tablelands. We started at capertee and camped a couple of nights along the Turon, then through Sofala, Hill End and down the bridal track on to the Macquarie were we spent another couple of nights. For the final night of the trip it was back to Hill End down through Dixons long point and up to Ophir reserve. This was mainly a family/camping trip with a little fishing thrown in, mainly early morning before the kids woke up. On the Turon we were after Trout. Small hard bodies in natural colours accounted for many fish, both browns and rainbows, even a few redfin were landed. My mate Dave landed the biggest fish a 50cm brown, that's a nice fish for this river. I spent a couple of hours with the fly rod one afternoon, even though I failed to land a fish I still learnt a lot and will keep trying. I spent the couple of mornings on the Macquarie chasing cod and was rewarded with 3 nice cod and a small yella all caught on spinnerbaits. I wasn't going to fish at Ophir but when a local came back with a nice rainbow that afternoon I couldn't help myself and set of for a quick fish the next morning. I think he caught the last fish in the creek, all I could manage were a couple of Redfin. It was a great trip and I would certainly like to spend more time on the Macquarie, I'm sure there would be some bid cod swimming around in the river. Enjoy the photos. Cheers, Dean

    Upgrade time

My first boat was a 3.85m quintrex with a 20 on the back, in the right condition I could take that anywhere through the Harbour even outside the heads. You just have to take it easy and slow down for the ferry wash.
  24. That's a great fish Bugger the trout when your catching bass like that. Well done.
  25. Stephen you did well to land a fish in the dirty water. Well done. March is usually a good month in the mountains, if the rivers clear up and rain stays away the fishing should be good right up to the close of season. I'm looking forward to the next couple of months. Cheers, Dean
