  1. Hey Mick, great fish. I've been trying all season to pull a fish like that out of the upper Nepean and haven't even come close. Well done.
  2. Just returned from a three day trip fishing the snowies. We spent a night on the Gungarlin and one on the Thredbo. It was great to see clear water and a blue sky. The fishing on the Gungarlin was great, plenty of small rainbows and a couple of browns. Even manage a few on the fly, nothing big but still fun. Most fish were taken on the spin gear, mainly zipbaits in natural colours. The Thredbo fish totally different and we found it tough, only a couple of fish were caught in the afternoon and nothing the next morning. The scenery on both rivers is spectacular and even if your not catching fish it's still a great way to spend a couple of days. Cheers, Dean
  3. Great report, nice brown. Well done. Bet Lee can't wait to get back there for round 2. Cheers, Dean
  4. Thanks for all the comments, It certainly was a tough day and if I wasn't fishing with stewy I probably would have given up long before the fish were caught. I'm looking forward to the next couple of months, with the current river levels it could only be good for the fish. When the river level settles a little i'll be the first one down there trying for a trout in the Nepean. Matt imagine the amount of water coming down Kanangra. Cheers, Dean
  5. I had the pleasure of spending a day fishing with Stewy up at TCD yesterday. We had an early start and after a quick stop for a wholesome Maccas breakfast we were on our way. The forecast was for rain all day but when we arrived the conditions were perfect - it was overcast but the temperature was mild and not a breath of wind. This was my first trip to the dam, so I had no idea what to expect.. I had always heard fishing the dam was tough going but Stewy assured me that sometimes it produced sensational fishing, so I remained hopeful! The start of a days fishing. The dam must be full of mudeyes, the only thing I caught after 8 hours of fishing My hopes were starting to fade however as the dam lived up to it's reputation. Stewy and I were pulling out all the stops without even so much as a follow. After 8 hours on the job, we had not even sighted a fish let alone caught one. At least the rain had held off so far. As we fished our way back towards the car, we bumped into Caddis who was having as much luck as we were. After a quick chat we pushed on and it was at this point things started to change. As the weather closed in and mist began rolling in over the dam, I noticed a fish rising in a shallow bay and quickly cast my plastic once I was in range..finally I was on! After a brief fight, my first TCD trout was on the bank and after a photo was quickly released. A short time later it started to pour with rain - just as the fish were starting to bite! 15 minutes later I had my second fish - another nice rainbow. We continued fishing in the rain for a while but with no more hits we decided to call it quits and head home. Thanks Stewy for a great day. Cheers, Dean
  6. Nice fish Joco, you're not far of the meter mark. I've heard of a 1.2 meter fish landed in the Camden area this year, the big fish are there. Catfish numbers also seem to be on the rise with plenty landed on worms.
  7. Thanks for the replies. Adam, I use a similar outfit 2500 diawa luvias and 1-3kg rod, It's well balanced, light and doubles as my bream/bass rod. I'm not a fan of smaller reels but that's just me. Dicko, I've never fished the area, a mate wants to camp out at Ophir reserve on Lewis pond creek soon, not sure if there are any fish though. Also wouldn't mind fishing the Maquarie at Dixons long point for natives. Cheers, Dean
  8. Nice one Royce and Caddis, the rivers are fishing well at the moment. I had a short session with the fly the other day, lets just say it didn't end well. I felt like snapping the rod after catching every bush, shrub and tree on the river. I think I need more casting practise or a river with no trees . Cheers, Dean
  9. Great report Geoff. A couple of rivers I would like to fish one day. Good to see the fish recovering. Those browns are a tough fish.
  10. The day started early and the drive over the mountains was uneventful. Lake Lyell looked good glowing in the morning sun, but it was the Fish river we would be spending the day on. Down at the river things started slowly and we fished a lot of good water before my dad landed the first fish a small brown. A few runs later we had a double hook up, a rainbow for me and a brown for my dad. As the day warmed the fishing improved and we landed a mixture of rainbows and nice browns. After a quick lunch break at one of the bigger pools we fished our way back to the car with similar results. Best fish of the trip. Final fish for the day, nice brown. The rivers holding up well at the moment with good flow and plenty of fish. Surprisingly we only spotted one snake, I was happy about that. Cheers, Dean
  11. Great report Caddis. Nice stretch of water and healthy fish. Thanks for posting.
  12. Hi bigslick, Tuross is a bigger systems and will give you more options. I mainly fish Narooma and love the clear waters of the inlet. The two systems are only 20 minutes from each other, why don't you fish both. Which ever system you choose I'm sure you will enjoy yourself. Cheers, Dean
  13. Like the others have said the surface bite will be tough in the middle of the day, at the moment I'm struggling to catch a fish of the surface after 8am but under the right conditions they will bite all day. Cicada type lures will work well.
  14. Thanks for the comments. Glad you enjoyed the photos, I'm trying to be more creative with the photos but have limited options in the kayak. Dave and Onajewagain, welcome to the world of bass fishing. It is addictive. When the bass really fire up and start smashing surface lures it's hard to beat. Not really familiar with the lower parts of the river as I mainly fish in the Camden area but if your up this way I can point you in the right direction. Stewy, whenever your ready I'll have more time in the new year. Cheers, Dean
  15. Taken the kayak out 4 times in the last few weeks, all the recent rain and cool weather has really stirred the river up and slowed the fishing down. Most session have only produced 3-4 fish. On Saturday things were different, a slight rise in the river overnight really turned the fish on and 16 fish were landed in only a couple of hours. All taken on buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. Even though the the fishing is a little though at the moment the overall size of the fish caught makes the effort worthwhile. Cheers, Dean
  16. Nice solid bass. I know of a few tagged fish being caught this season, Should provide fisheries with some useful information. The recent rain has certainly slowed the fishing. Hopefully the warm weather will be back soon.
  17. Nice fish, Sunday was tough for me on the fish river, I could only put it down to the high and dirty water, thats fishing. Looks like a nice stretch of river, do they get a few browns up that way or is it mainly rainbows.
  18. Angus, I'll pm you the details.
  19. WOW Nice fish. Top report well done.
  20. Spent Sunday in the mountains chasing a few trout. The river copped a fair amount of rain the weekend before and I was hoping it had settled enough for a fish. My dad was along for the ride and when we finally reached the river It was running high and dirty. Visibility was about a foot and the high flow made things difficult but the little fish didn't seem to mind, the bigger fish though just weren't interested. Fished till lunch time and dropped more fish than we landed, they were a mixture of rainbows and browns. I did pack my 4wt for this trip hoping to catch a few on the dry but we didn't see a rise all day. After lunch we relocated to a section of the coxs river I've never fished before. The river was up but running clear, passed a few others fishing they had no luck and that's how we ended up after a couple of hours. We did see some nice fish though, It's a section I'll fish again. Even though the bigger fish didn't want to play it was still an enjoyable day and I can't wait to get up there again. Cheers, Dean My dad with an average fish Dirty river, this section usually produces a few fish but nothing today. A clean coxs
  21. I've read alot about the Tyenna and surrounding rivers, It's an area I will fish one day. Love the colour of the browns, every fish is different. Thanks for the report. Cheers, Dean
  22. Hodgey, plenty of people fish the dam from the bank. Not sure what it would be like now the dam is full, just start at the boat ramp and keep walking. If your after cod the Bidgee through the ACT can fish well at times. Cheers, Dean
  23. Very nice fish Kael, lake fish certainly go hard. You certainly made the most of the conditions. Were the rivers dirty after all the rain. Cheers, Dean
  24. Great report Angus, looks like a nice stretch of water, it's always good to get a few fish in some new water and good on Caddis for taking you out for the day.
  25. Nice report, the fish are a good size for a little creek. You're lucky to have it so close to home.
