  1. Siikaflex won't be that much harder to undo if you need to and I relieve much better than silicone for most uses on a boat. If your bolts are leaking it is letting water into the timber in your tansomed and you don't want that as it will allow wood root and weaken the transome Siikaflex also cleans up with turps
  2. Today we were taking the boat for a run and as we entered Kogarah Bay we noticed the crabs must be on. It was fairly obvious as on the eastern side there was a group of at least 20 floats. The disappointing thing there were also half a dozen just out the front of the St George Motor Boat Club. I won't begrudge anyone their right to set a crab pot but when they clutter the entry to a bay making it an obstacle course can be hazardous and milk bottles are not an easy to see in some conditions. Wrap a crab pot line around a shaft driven boat and your day takes an interesting turn. Keep an eye out.
  3. Today we used the app for out trip from JB to Greenwell Point. Attached is the download of out trip from the website, works well, certainly recommended. On a side note If anyone is familiar with the area, what is with the current as you round Beecroft Head. It looked like either the outgoing tide or the EAC was running out of the gap between the headland and the Banks. Each time we have passed prior we have been wide so haven't seen it, today it was a washing machine. Is it always like that as I was taken by surprise.
  4. I used the system on the weekend as a test. It worked well then I rang VMR Jervis Bay to enquire if they had seen my log on and I was surprised they hadn't, but don't panic. I emailed Coast Guard to enquire who was tracking our movements. Whilst the local VMR may not have seen our log on we were certainly being monitored by Coast Guard. Their reply included a screen shot from their file of our track and our emergency contact information. Their reply even included an estimate of cost per trip after the trial of 20 cents, I think a fair price for piece of mind even at double its still cheap. System gets a thumbs up from me.
  5. Whilst fishing off JB this morning in the distance was a strange object and i remarked it looked like a Sub from the distance. Well to our surprise it came into JB past the car park known as middle ground then left an hour later?
  6. Top the tank up with premium to bring the octane rating back up and go for a run, burning fuel in a boat is easy or if unmixed in the car.
  7. There are cheap LED strips and the more expensive ones, the cheaper ones are not as bright as the more expensive ones. There is white and RGB when you light all three colors up in RGB you ger a warm white light but it's not as bright as a straight white strip. I brought one of the RGB controllers available on online shop for colored LED strips and it works well . To dim LED's you need to flash them quicker than the eye can see, you cant dim them like an incandescent by reducing the voltage I have both RGB and white in use on my boat and they are great consuming almost no power.
  8. There is one in Burraneer Bay about 300 meters north if the large Lilly Philly sand bar Readily found in a sounder good for small reef fish
  9. Come on really need a gas fitter
  10. We have recently purchased a Mariner 31 and need a qualified gas fitter to relocate the gas bottle and make the boat compliant Any suggestions will be appreciated and I can be contacted on 0425 248366 or via pm or post There are plenty of gas plumbers but can't find one interested in doing a boat so far
  11. If you have the battery power ie twin set up we have had great success with the 12 volt ovens from dick smith 15 amp for an hour to heat garlic bread, good winter evening treat. Thanks for your thoughts as the butane burners are great for a cuppa though we were looking a little bigger
  12. We have recently purchased a Mariner 31 with an old Rambler LPG stove. It works OK for 30 years old but its no longer compliant and is in need of replacement. LPG works fine but being mindful of the issues inheritant to LPG we are looking at our options. Electric is not an option as we dont plan to install a generator. LPG we are aware of and there are plenty of options on the market. Has anyone had expeiences with Metho, I would welcome any reviews of how they cook and how easy they are to light verses safety issues. I am also interested in the differences between pressurised and non pressurised systems. Thank you
  13. They are turbo diesal Volvo Penta TMD40A x 2 David
  14. We are currently looking at purchasing a Mariner 31 with Twin Diesels. I would like to speak with someone who owns one or is very familiar with a Mariner 31 with diesels (34 would do) The type of information I am looking for is Performance ie Cruise, Plane and max speeds and fuel consumption etc You can PM me, text or phone me on 0425 248366 and I will happly phone you back. Thank you in advance
  15. It happens because when you crank the engine the voltage drops below the minion needed to run the device. It can have many causes including but not limited to poor connections, tired or low batteries, long cable lengths and many more. Basically anything that causes voltage to drop too far. The fix is find the issue and if there is none you can fit a voltage booster. It will keep the voltage at 12v even thought the battery may drop to 9v during cranking causing your sounder to turn off. These should be available from any good auto elec or marine supplier. Redarc make them in South Australia and sell through distributors.
  16. We have a HP laser and it's great but the toners are $110 ea x 4 Price the toners and then the printer and most printers are supplied with "starter toners" ie less ink in them

    Fuel Storage

If you don't have a snap fitting on your engine you can add one on the intake of most fuel filters. Then you can simply detach your main line and connect the outboard tank. No mess and safe
  18. Our boat is on a marina mooring and I reccomend I have needed to go to the office at least 3 times and ask for my spare keys after leaving them at home. Makes you feel real stupid Yes previous boats we also launched only to see a fountain from the mid deck bung, lean over the back and put the hull bung in and let the bilge pump do it's bit But the worst was Australia day, sitting at the wharf all loaded for a BBQ at Towra and "where's the gas bottle" Rather than take the return trip that would have cost 2 hrs to home went to the local servo to pick $70 reminder to check to add to the collection of cylinders Expensive steak
  19. If some of the LEDs in the light have failed then the issue is in the light, if a light is not working at all it may be the wiring. Depending on brand will determin if say the blinker portion can be replaced or not but you wont be able to change LEDs in the light as they are sealed
  20. They are great as it's fit and forget It is worthwhile ensuring a very good seal at any joins as the salt water can get in and creep down the wire to minimize this narva also do a pack that has enough wire to reach the front of the trailer
  21. Huey Fuel is certainly a concern, on the Bertram we have 2 completely separate engines all the way to totally separate electrical systems. Even if one system totally fails you still have the other. I do have twin pickups but only one tank so One lot of dirty fuel and it's all over. So yes when the engine spluttered to a stop my first concern was in fact the other engine, would it stop. Twin motor, Single tank, silly design
  22. Twin inboards well maintained is what they are On Friday on the VHF we also heard another boat limping home on one engine, must have been the day for it
  23. There are some days when you wished your boat was single engine. Like when your getting a quote for work to be done and you think the price sounds good anh you hear those words "times two" Then there is last Friday, 4 mile out idling around looking for bait balls and the port motor takes a splutter and stops, cranks over, sounds like it's flooded but it just won't start. It gets better as I had the whole team from work on the boat who know I am a mechanic and nothing I do gets it to run, so day not wasted just pull lures between fishing spots Well one rat king caught and returned , one Bonnie and I dud engine for a Friday off work. Saturday I discovered it to be the ignition condenser so new one fitted and happy ready for another go Sunday only to get to the lighthouse outside botany bay for the new condenser to fail. Limped back into port for the second time this time with 2 bonito So ask me one engines or 2 and I will tell you about not needing to be towed twice.
  24. Thanks for the post, let's hope we have better luck on Friday

    Karma

We have had our anchor jammed several times Each time I Dave brought the rope around to the stern and uses one of the heavy cleats on the sterh rather than straining the ones on the bow this also stops the anchor pulling your bow down Tried a couple of different angles starting with driving forward over the top of the anchor Haven't lost it yet but they come up bent at times
