  1. I have just discovered my GME 406 Epirb battery has reached it's use by date & the question is , replace the battery or buy a new unit I have heard a replacement battery can cost about the same as a new unit , also the current models have better battery life & at one time offered a free replacement when it expired There must be a few of these units now reaching their expiry date so if any one has been through the process I would like to hear yr comments Geoff

  3. I've got the 4.9 , ( 4.6) same boat , just measured differently . Can't help u with the motor but as for the choice between the two , definatly the 4.6 . The 4.3 is a nice inshore or close off shore boat but I would not be keen to go too far if the weather turns nasty Also the 4.6 can fish 3 comfortably , 3 in a 4.3 can be a squeeze Yes , the rav may struggle but if u take it easy u should be ok , for interest that all up weight will weigh in between 900 - 1000 kg Check the trailer has brakes fitted as rigs over 750 kg require brakes in NSW Your not far from my place , if u want to visit & check out my boat & chat more about the pro's & con's send me a PM Geoff
  4. Frank , Just up from the entrance , near the retaining wall
  5. There is a reef at the creek entrance that is worth a try but generally only accessable between half tide to low then back to half tide Other than that take a walk out to the wreck but can normally only fished on calm days Suggest using floats rather than actually fishing the bottom as lots of snags so you can loose a lot of gear There are other places around the front cliffs but perhaps not the place for a youngster
  6. Whilst u have describe the situation it's a bit hard without seeing the set up & testing the circuts Like JEWFISH I'm not far from u & if he can't make it send me a PM & we can set a time Geoff
  7. Have u spoken with the site sponser , DM marine service , they should be able to do the job i
  8. It can depend on what sort of boat u have , where u want it located & yr budget
  9. Was it on a trailer or on the water when stolen ??
  10. Tackle stores sell a range of live bait jigs , they normally come with either 3 or 6 hooks in various sizes & normally only cost a few $$$$$ per packet . The smaller ones are the most common Yes , u need a small sinker at the bottom of the jig
  11. Ditto for me If they are the std AL-KO pads they are the same as used on early model Torana cars I get mine from a brake place at Fairfield , part no. MDB1029 . you should see change out of $40 for a set of 4 pads
  12. " inspection required " Will be noted on the rego papers if a pink slip is required
  13. Can u add some photos of the problem

    New fish finder

I caught part of a documentary on TV the other day filmed in the US A fish finder that floats . It's about the size of a tennis ball Attach a line , throw it over the side & it transmits images to yr I pad or similar . The range is up to about 50 mt I did not hear the depth that it will work to or the cost Has anyone else seen or heard of this device Geoff

I've used Plasti bond before with very good results . I suspect Ultra bond is a similar product

    My old boat

Weather u use it or sell it , the trailer will need to registered & the boat , boat coded . A 4 hp motor is unlikely to push the boat along at over 10 knots which is the maxium u can do before the boat needs to be registered & the driver licenced Welding is preferred but there are products around that will give u a short term fix The motor , set it up with the flusher on the leg , some fresh fuel & give it a go , if it starts & runs ok yr in business , if it wont start then that is a different story
  17. Pillies & squid. We caught several sergent baker which were also used as bait The baker & squid were best as it stayed on the hook a lot longer than the pillies Geoff
  18. I released it , not sure if there is a min size for dory , anyway not big enough to eat Geoff
  19. Caught this at Bermagui at Easter , except for the colour it looked like a Dory Is it a dory variety Geoff
  20. Six of us took a charter out of Kiama on Wednesday , we pulled about 100 fish over the side , most were throw backs but still managed a nice feed Geoff
  21. Check out the boating section in the RMS web site , there is a list of all the gear u are required to carry on board
  22. If u do decide to proceed Don't buy the wing type , they can be dangerous in certine situations. Buy the SE sport 200 But as others have said , ensure the balance & trim setting is first correct
  23. If the nut screws on & the split pin fits ok I would not worry about it as the nut has very little load on it . As others have said if brakes are fitted then they must remain Are they the mechanical disk brakes , if so they are quite easy to fix most likely only need adjustment or perhaps new pads
  24. Thought u might be interested in some feedback I found the problem . The chip in the ignition key was faulty , working some times then not others . By turning the ignition on then off 3 or 4 times finally activated the chip there by turning off the imobliser & the car started Ambrose 607 was on the money with the NRMA A strange thing occurred , I unlocked the car , placed the keys on the front seat started to walk away & heard a click , the car had locked it's self , called the NRMA , the guy had the door open in a few minuits , I asked about the starting problem , he checked the spark , nothing , checked the imobilser was still active . He was 99% sure it was the key , gave me a name & number of a lock smith , I called , the guy arrived & about 10 min & $160 later all was fixed I now have a happy daughter
