  1. Got a recommendation so that's it for now: "we were staying at the lake conjola deepwater resort, you can fish from the shore there or the floating pontoons. most fish were biting from early morning and late afternoon. you could try the beach or the shallows in front of the parking to the beach. I'm not 100% sure but I think the post office also hires out boats if you're interested. Apart from the resort I think the other place you can stay is the lake conjola tourist park. There are some wooden platforms there you can fish off too. hope this helps" Cheers all
  2. Thanks Nick, I'll give the deepwater resort a try. Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I'll post the results in Dec! Paul
  3. Hi guys Can anyone one recommend family accommodation at Lake Conjola? We are fishing land based so somewhere close to fishing spots would be good. Cabin, caravan park are all good. Got a budget of $150 per night. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Paul
  4. Hi Nick, Thanks for the post, great read. I was thinking of heading down to Lake Conjola for Christmas. Can you recommend somewhere for a family of 4 who like fishing? Cheers, Paul
  5. G'day Tom, The problem is tap water - it contains chlorine and is toxic to fish. Try collecting an extra bucket of water from where you caught them. Will be better then putting em in tap water
  6. Hey guys I fished diamond last night and winched up this salmon. It was my first salmon ever! Geeze they go hard and are heavy buggers to winch up the cliff top. For those who don't know diamond bay it's near south head. Think a cliff like the Gap and you get the idea how high up it is. We fished the run in tide from 8pm-11pm but it was pretty quiet. Only 1 decent fish, the rest were rubbish reef fish and a lone yakka. Caught on a float with strips of slimy mackerel. 30pound mono. Cheers, Paul
  7. Nice catch there, sounds like an awesome fight. Great post and read. Cheers
  8. Oh and the spot at Five Dock is nice and quiet. No need to put up with crowds at that spot.
  9. I dont fish the parra river for a feed and havent found an edible bream spot which is reliable and productive.
  10. Well done, massive fish! They look like something off ifish down at Whyalla!
  11. I fish the Parra river for bream and find good baits are chicken thigh fillets and mullet fillets. Cut them into strips and hook them once through a circle hook. No weight is best and use light lines, I use 6lb. Honestly I've got a spinning rod and expensive reels but I find I catch the most fish with a $2.50 handline. Sounds funny but it's true. My favourite spot is on Friend Ave, Five Dock http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?msid=212521006605500203310.0004baf62e93019953343&msa=0&ll=-33.862863,151.122505&spn=0.000605,0.001321 Some hints for success - Fish at night - Fish the run in tide 2hrs before high tide - Cast within 3m of shore, at your feet is ok - Practice your strike as bream pick up your bait and drag it away. You need to hook them with a flick of the wrist...just have a go - Fish with light line and no sinker Oh and lastly do yourself a favour and don't eat the fish there. The stormwater channel drains the car body shops on kings Rd and the area is old landfill (reclaimed land). Catch and release or feed the cat. Good luck Paul
  12. Nice bag there, my stress levels have dropped after reading you report. Nice one!
  13. We done guys great effort on the big kingie
  14. I fish for slimies using my 4 lb bream rod with a single unweighted circle hook. retrieve slowly. Has anyone had success around sydney? Just spent the night at watsons bay after them but nothing. Any input guys? Paul
  15. Hi the marinade was canned fish no secret. they were biting the chicken breast best. tried salted pilly and sliced poddy mullet. Paul
  16. Merry christmas guys Im on holidays at Tuross heads and have been fishing since tue unsuccessfuly. In desperation i reached out to fellow raider hodgey who genereously shared some spots with me. This morning I set out at 4am near the tuross boat shed landbased. I was fishing with marinated chicjen breast and the local bream seemed to like my cooking. all caught with a handline. so much fun as you feel the fish mouthing the bait and slinking of with it then bang set the hook and hold on. Were going to try the beach today. thanks again hodgey for making my holiday a joy and yes I got my daughter onto some fish. Paul

  21. Hi Trung, I've been following your build and enjoying watching your progress. Im thinking of starting on my first boat and was wondering how you got started, ie where to get info about boat customising, maintenance, wiring ect. Thinking of starting with something similar to you savage 3.8m. If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for your first boat? Paul PS keep posting as I really enjoy seeing the progress
  22. Hi all, Im posting on behalf of the skipper, Rob, who was kind enough to take me out on his great boat. We launched at 7am from Hunters Hill and motored to Balmain for some leatherjackets. It was pretty rough going and windy so we headed for some shelter at Lane Cove. After anchoring up and berleying we hooked onto a nice stud bream, flathead and trevaley. After the top of the tide the bites stopped and we headed back to the ramp. Rob has been out of action due to a shoulder injury so this was his first time out with the boat for months, look at the grin on his face. It was a great sunny relaxing day on the harbour. Thanks Rob, Paul
  23. Well done Tony and Chris, Great report, great feed, im greatly jealous. Thanks for posting, very enjoyable read. Paul
