  1. Awesome tally there Pete, Well done on the PB flattie + bream. Better to get wet and fish than to think about it dry i thinks. sounds like a good day, Paul
  2. G'day all, Hope you managed a fish over the weekend. Lately (for the past year) I've been using circle hooks for my bream fishing. The brand I like is black magic. the model is KL in 1/0 size. These mostly hook the bream in the mouth and minimizes hooking them deep. After reading a book by Starlo and Bushy, I flattened the hook's barb with pliers last night and proceeded to catch and release with much greater ease. I fish the upper p'matta river (Hen and Chicken, Iron Cove and pyrmont) and mostly release the fish so using these hooks are a great way of maximising the fishes' survival (I hope). BTW I was fishing Hen and Chicken bay on the run in tide using chicken breast and burleyed with stale bread. Caught lots of 25cm models, one 30cm and a monster of an eel. Cheers, Paul
  3. You should start a charter business. Kelvin's kingfish tours! Well done on the great session. Paul
  4. Nice haul there Paul, to the site and nice pic, Paul
  5. Hi all, Rushed out of work to catch the run in tide on friday. Went to pyrmont, near the fishmarkets and tried sp's with no success. Switched to bread on the 1/8th nitro jighead and bang Im on straight away. Fished using viet bakery bread for 2 hours with consistent bites from smallish bream, lots of fun and they were feeding aggressively. Got a few 25 - 30cm models and kept a couple. On sat went rockfishing at south head near the lighthouse, was a friggin cold windy day with lots of rock cod caught, and one fun trev. We burleyed hard but no takers. Caught the trev on cut pilchard. The rockcod like prawn meat Hope you all had a great wekend, Paul
  6. Great Pics and great report Steve, nice salmon you got there. to the site, Paul
  7. Hi all, End of the week to look forward to, anyone want to go night fishing for slimeys and bream at Watsons bay tonight? Im leaving the office at 6pm and will get there 6:45. Good tides tonight, My no. is 0418 410 060 Paul
  8. Great report Namesay, I enjoyed reading it, bet those kingies taste nice! Paul
  9. Excellent footage, Didn't realise how competitive it is underwater, might have to start upping the size of my baits
  10. Gutsy effort, well done for trying. My attempt at taking a girl fishing ended with me administering first aid to an oyster cut hand and lending cargo shorts due to "fall on bum". That didn't help things at all, so cheer up, at least you kept her uninjured! Paul
  11. Gday Matt, I bought a 2nd hand quantum energy PTI 10, cost me $100, bought off Matrix the fishraider. It is my favourite reel. Reliable, smooth drag, and tough. I have a stradic and Ultegra and I prefer the quantum. It's a good buy. I saw them on a US site, and you can get them shipped here for round $250. Paul Oh and about warranty from Japan, I bought a Caldia Kix from Plat.co.jp and had a problem with the winding mechanism. Couldn't get it fixed here, had to send it to Japan, at my expense and still haven't got the damm thing back..Grrrr 2 weeks to get there, 1 month waiting on Daiwa Japan.....better off buying locally from Shimano. Daiwa has given me nothing but headaches! Paul
  12. Great pics and fish there Lew, Bet the light gear was doubled over and jumping all over the place. Good onya for managing a midweek fish. Paul
  13. Hey Koons, Huge fish, what a great catch. Hows the knee and are you ready to go fishing again? Let me know when your ready and we'll try for a king (again). All the best, Paul
  14. G'day Jamie, to the site and a great couple of fish. I love the "Stopping means one more cast". I bet we've all done that and found a couple of hours have flown by...oh well that just means a struggle staying awake at work
  15. Cheers Stewy, Thats great info. I've got much to learn about fishing the South coast. Might concentrate on the central coast and start fishing south after I become a millionare
  16. Hi all, Spent the day down at Shellharbour, Bass Point. Fished for kingys but to no avail. Lots of guys fishing but it was very quiet. Only one salmon landed all day but some nice big squid. These were caught by a pillie on a squid spike (not by me). Seems like a popular spot though, don't know why it was so quiet today. Paul
  17. Some lovely bream there guys, A great report and pics, ahhh the south coast. Paradise.
  18. Congratulations WD, Thats a noice fish, I can 'read' the massive grin in your post. Good on ya for putting in the work and getting a result. Have a great week, Paul
  19. Some beautiful kingies there, Well done!
  20. G'day Darin, to the site. Paul
  21. G'day all, Great day out at Avoca, got there at 7:30am with Koons. We were both keen to catch our first kings, so we squeezed into a spot on the rock and cast out. We were fishing with squid strips. Now having done my homework I went through my mental notes 1) set drag light 2) Fish using a thin diameter mono 3) check all knots are tight and strong Ok got the plan in my head....waiting....berleying...and the float gets sucked under. somethings got it. wait wait wait let him swallow the hook and lift. GOT HIM!!! Such a great feeling, he powered off away from me making the reel scream, this was my first serious fish and I was so happy. So the rods flexing and taking the shocks and I hop down to the waters edge, after a bit koons takes the rod while I net him, no dramas - a legal kingy just on 60cm So after that 2 more which got away but it was a great day. Koons, thanks for the company and your help. To anyone whose contemplating meeting up with raiders, do it, it's great fun, plus you get to meet other fish obsessed nutbags. Have a great weekend, Paul
  22. Cheers Stewie, PS my eyes have been scarred by that uglystick pic of yours
  23. G'day, Looking forward to the weekend. I fish soft plastics with 4lb fireline. I like the pink for visibility. Caught bream under 30cm and decent flatties no problem. 6lb is fine, prob better for you. THere was a post (think by fisherman rob with the valiant) about yellow fireline breaking at the knots so might be wise to steer clear of it. Have a top top weekend all, Paul
  24. No worries, You keep up the hard work and by 2 weeks the high will be at first light, you'll get a leave pass and we'll catch a couple of kings!
