  1. Due to laziness I usually use bait, but in saying that i have allready packed the plastics rod and a good variety of both plastics , blades and hardbodys. Have rented a waterfront property with its own ramp so i think i will have time to experiment. Thanks for the tip. cheers pete.
  2. Hi all, Am heading down the basin for a few days for a break. If any one has any info re general areas i shouldnt overlook for a feed (bream whiting flatties). Also, is it worth taking the prawning gear. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as its my first time visiting this area. p.s any areas worth a pump for nippers/worms? thanks pete.
  3. Hi, I have been looking for a 17l . Any chance of putting some pics up somewhere? cheers.
  4. Gday, was once convinced that all new alloy boats ran like crap but after a recent ride in a formosa i was impressed. Still no comparison to the many glass boats i fish out of. I believe its the weight of a glass boat thats contributes to the smooth ride. Personally i think if you drive across submerged rocks in any boat you are just about screwed. A good mate of mine had a quintrex and after travelling in my small boat ( 1985 haines signature 15.5ft ($6000)) decided to sell his boat for 20k and "upgrade" to a 1986 model fiberglass caribbean for $5500.00 and bought the a new kitchen with the change. He now goes out comfortably in conditions that he never even considered before. In the end everyone was happy. I know it sounds like im anti alloy but thats not true because i own 3 alloy boats aswell. Mine are all dehavillands though....ugly dinosaurs, built to last.
  5. Hi, IMO personally i dont rate the ride of any quintrex hull in heavy chop. This may offend many quinny owners because they swear by them. I reckon the stacer is a little better but i would lean towards the formosa myself(if i had to choose alloy). ultimately you cant beat the ride and handling of a quality fiberglass boat eg Haines Hunter/signature, seafarer or cruisecraft etc.
  6. Gday, the best thing to do when you dont know where to fish is get some good bait and drift different areas and see what you come across. Alternatively just pick somewhere you think(using general fishing knowledge)might hold fish, burley hard and be patient.
  7. Gday, I have a nissan navara str 3.0lt turbo diesel 2003 model. I reckon it could tow a house. I have a 6.5mt dehavilland full cabin boat that i reckon weighs in well over 1200kg and it has no probs anytime. I reckon you could pick one up for around 15-18k depending on condition.
  8. Thats what i thought.... we only got baby kings at moll point thru the week aswell. Theres bigger ones floating around in random places thru the bay. Large peeled banana prawns have been scoring the bigger fish. Either way, good effort scoring a few legal rats at molli.
  9. Any decent size kings in amongst your legals from Moll. pnt? We have been finding large numbers of legal kings in many other(not so crowded) parts of the bay but all rats. Nothing over 90cm yet.
  10. I dont agree, you need to find what areas of the bay fish better on the run in and what areas fish better on the run out. Work out what species you are targeting and how the the incoming tide depending on size of tide will effect certain areas of the bay eg current speed etc etc. Good fresh or live bait, light line and sinker and a steady burley trail and patience my friend.
  11. heaps of whiting during the day(using worms) but not much size to most of them. fair few flatties also with the good old plastics.
  12. Having good bait eg live or freshly caught squid or live yakkas( or freshly caught slab fillets of some sort) would be very important in your quest for a jew. If the runway doesnt end up paying off you could always try the trusty old cooks bridge.
  13. Hi Kel, i would say there would be a few decent lizards around. I accidently snared a 75cm model in yarra bay early on wednesday evening. Was pretty happy about the new pb, especially because i wasnt fishing for flatties. Was a good feeling to see her swim away also.
  14. Awesome dollies, you'd better give me the co-ordinates to your personal fad so i dont "accidently" run it over when Im out there. TOP effort once again, well done!
  15. I have a 6.4m Dehavilland Trojan and its called THE TROJAN. Have the personalised rego for it DTROJAN. When i got it it was called "aquarius" . Had no problem changing the name.

Gday IVZ350, just giving you a heads up that the local boys in blue will not hesitate to issue you with a $150 on the spot fine if they see you fishing off the bridge. They use to turn a blind eye, but after the brawl which occured one saturday night last summer between fishos on the bridge, (heard a couple people were stabbed)the police have been more strict. Great fishing spot though and congrats on the haul.

    Aluminium Pod

Gday, I have a 4m stacer with a 20" transom and the outboard is a short shaft(15"). Ive heard you can get shaft extension kits from the U.S (for the outboard that is). The other option is to cut the transom down 5 inches. What im wondering is if anyone has heard of any pods or brackets which could be used to bolt on the back in order to drop the outboard 5 inches. Any info would be greatly appreciated. cheers pete.
  18. No offence, but just because they have military training and could kick just about anyones arse, doesnt give them the right to be arrogant unsavoury characters. If they were involved in some kind of training excercise fair enough, but if just having a social fish then they should respect the fellow fishos around them........ in my opinion anyway.
  19. Thats funny.... we found the it to be the opposite. while they were dredging we struggled but since they stopped i think things have improved. today fished fairly well for us. We had crap leftovers for bait and still managed a good bag of bream and trevs. some aroung yarra bay and some around towra. Didnt bother trying for kings though....too lazy today.
  20. sounds like a nice day out!
  21. nice reds, i can get em on bait..... but still havent quite cracked it on plastics. but i will soon....
  22. the trick is, you need to pour coke zero (not the normal coke) into your burley bucket and mix it with the rest of your burley. The nutrasweet additives cause the fish to feel like it hasnt had enough calories.....hense alot hungrier and easier to catch. Most good fishos allready know that.
  23. On baits Dave, am yet to land one on plastics. Came close yesterday but the leader failed 2mtrs from the boat. Not sure if im a fan of flouro yet...
  24. gday all, headed out from bellambi about 6.30 this morning an headed north towards the humps getting to the grounds about 7. After about an hour of trying different things we started pick up a few fish. Ended up with a few mixed reef species and landed 1 of the four larger reds that were hooked. The three that got away were lost to the reef. Hopefully we get good conditions next weekend to try again.
