  1. thats a top session Shane It seems big flatties eat their smaller ones quite often as this also happened to me a few years back on the Gold Coast. I was bringing a nice fish to the boat when the wight suddenly trippled mid way up. We ended up netting an 86 cm croc with a very sad looking 42cm flattie poking out from the big girls gob. Big girl released but we put the little bugger out of his misery.

nice adam, what sorta boat did it go on?
  3. i was looking at buying a Stacer 525 Easyrider sports a few years back and i bargained hard. Went in to a few Sydney dealerships to see exactly what i was after then i set about phoning about a dozen Stacer dealers ( i even rang a Queensland dealer who was competitive even with freight) and the price differences were significant across the range ($4000 from best to worst) for identical packages. I even got free motor upgrades (90 to 115hp). After all that, i ended up going halves with my brother on a second hand Bayliner for the same money pm me if you want to know specific dealers i found good to deal with and willing to bargain. p.s. know exactly what you want when shopping around and once they know your serious and ready to buy they WILL bargain.
  4. East reef was like a car park yesterday
  5. thanks for the replies guys. Stewy, we target big Jews in the Hakesbury and i fish 80lb on my overhead (hence the left over line) as most of our spots have a point close by (such as Juno) and we know how fragile braid is on rock so i use it as insurance more than anything else although im yet to land that big bugger. My other rods have 50lb braid and 30lb mono. Just wanted to know if it would handle it as Tuf line is not cheap but i figured it would be too much anyway. Iceman, you make a good point, we might put it on anyway and set the drag lighter and see how it goes. we are going out tomorrow and hopefully ill have a pic of that big jew thats eluded me all these years
  6. hi all, my mates got a 6500 thats spooled with some nasty mono and wants to replace it with braid. I fish 50lb on my big spinning reels and was just wandering if 80lb Tuf line will be too much for the reel to handle? Im guessing yes but asking cause i have half a spool spare so i can save him some dough. thanx.
  7. i agree Stewy, it just seems the poor Entrance gets punished worse than most other places. I guess alot of it comes down to uneducation.
  8. I beg to differ mate, Okumas are great value for money, and will last a long time if looked after properly. I would buy the Shimano but it depends on KingsRules budget, go the best you can afford. you wont be dissappointed either way.
  9. for your sake Pete, dont go up to the Entrance
  10. ive got both reels (6500 baitrunner and epix 60) and theyre both great. If its big jews your targeting, i would go the shimano but for value for money the Okuma is brilliant, super smooth drag and has never missed a beat in the 4 years ive had it (prob my most used reel-so versatile). Btw, i never use the baitrunner feature for jew fishing...actually i never really use it, still great reels though!
  11. Davy, never tried a float as the jews will mainly be holding close to the bottom, just use a light enough sinker to just hold bottom and if the line comes back in to close to the rocks wind in fast before it snags. by the way, did you get that bream high up in the water column as the tide normally races through there and id imagine it would be hard to fish light plastics?
  12. could have been a frigate mackeral.
  13. hi there mr grumble firstly, what is your actual budget? it will all depend on this but judging from your comments your going to be looking at a tinnie around the 4m mark with something like a 20hp 2 stroke on the back which will do you fine in the river. Just be wary if you intend to cross from Brisbane Waters to the Hawkesbury as it can get very rough through this stretch.
  14. well done Davy, i take it you were fishing the Sydney side of the bridge? I love fishing there when im landbased, especially when its raining and you can sit under the bridge in comfort...geez i love the Hawkesbury!! anyway, if you walk along the path past the bridge youll come to a point (theres a big rock that sits just off the shore but you can get to it) which is a good spot for jewies, only ever got schoolies but there still fun. fish it on a run out when the eddy forms there and fish as light a sinker as possible as its VERY snaggy bottom.
  15. thats a top bream mate i can only seem to get good bycath when i jewie fish (the big blokes always elude me), i even got a ripper whiting at Juno once on whole squid and 6/0's. have you had any luck on the jewies?
  16. gday david, youve been doing well on those Bass, well done i started work in Penrith a couple of weeks ago and took a drive down to the river next to the rowing club and it looks very fishy, have you ever given it a go as im sure the bass would be there. Ill be giving it a go early morning next week, PM me if your keen to have a fish.
  17. big baits are the way to go if you want to target BIG jew, dont be afraid to put one out no matter how big. As for spots in cowan, the place is a breeding ground so expect squillions of baby snapper, bream and jews BUT if you persist with burley and be patient you will get good fish. Ive caught big bream, whiting, tailor, bonito legal jews and even a legal snapper in Cowan but all these fish came at either dusk and middle of the night or really early in the morning (best time ive found is 4-7am) so make sure youve got your lines in at these times. Ive had most success at Waratah Bay but most bays will produce, just stick close to the shore. Housebaot trips rock so enjoy yourselves. Good luck
  18. thats a CROC ive caught a 102 cm flattie that weighed 7kg, that fish looks bigger than a metre and could very well be 12+kgs
  19. There were about 6 surfers on the whole beach. worms are $10 a bag but you get heaps in a bag
  20. Hi raiders, As yesterday was my last day off before i go back to jail (umm...work), i decided the best way to spend it would be fishing So with beautiful weather i decided ill make the hour plus journey up to the Entrance to suss things out before the social plus it had been ages since i visited the place. I arrived at a lazy 10am and hiked out to the beach from the car park (caravan park) which is a solid walk through the sand to be greeted by mild winds and a virtually deserted beach, which was rare as i remember standing shoulder to shoulder with fishos when the whiting are on. I started out casting into the mouth of the lake which was running out to the sea. First cast resulted in a damn puffer, and as i lost the next dozen baits without barely feeling a bite i decided not to waste anymore bait on the buggers. I decided to walk north up the beach and found a nice gutter which produced zilch for half an hour, so i packed the gear and continued north in search of some fish. About 100 metres up i found a very fishy gutter which was only a few metres wide and running hard up and parallel to the shore. After about 5 minutes i felt the familiar tap-tap-tap, and i was into my fist whiting in ages Boy i love catching these fish and on 4kg line they really go. He ended up going 30cm but his plumpness made up for is length Over the next 3 hours i bagged 5 fat whiting ranging from 27-30cm, released about a dozen 25-26cm fish (might be legal by our social day), two chopper tailor and a mullet which would have made an awsome jewie bait later that night The beach normally produces MUCH bigger fish (35-45cm+) regularly but today the size was down. All fish were caught on live worms bought from the entrance. There are two bait shops in town that sell very good bait. The lake area looks ideal for a spin so the options look good for all come the social p.s. i do have pics but as i was alone they're more mug shots than anything else
  21. thanks Loomy, i asked because thats exactly what i want to be able to do out of my next boat
  22. Now THATS a red!!! do you know what gear he got it on?
