  1. I fillet quite regularly at sea or on the way in, but always keep the frames until Im back at the ramp and ready to go.
  2. Put some Rod holders in the boat, preferably the angled ones that they can just sit the rod in while waiting for a bite, they get bored pretty quick from holding the rod if nothings happening.
  3. Firstly please dont refer to these people as Fisherman, they are just some idiot with a boat. Makos and Whites do look very similar and if you didnt know much could easily get confused, same body shape, differant colour, White is more a dull grey whilst the Mako is a real Electric Blue, the biggest giveaway is the teeth though.
  4. I purchased a charging rectifier to fit to my 2003 18hp Tohatsu but I am having problems getting it working. The Alternator (already fitted to engine and does supply AC voltage) has 3 wires, yellow and white which were plugged together and a black which was alone. The rectifier, (aftermarket by the looks of it) has also has yellow, white and black wires (with the black ending in a ring style terminal to be bolted to earth?) and two red wires (to the battery). Ive plugged white to white, yellow to yellow and tried the black to earth on the engine and connected to the other black wire but still no dc volts from the 2 red wires. (tested with mulitmeter and loaded slightly with a globe style testlight. Im hesitatant to connect to a battery yet as both output wires are red I have no idea which is positive and negative. The shop I purchased from is now closed for the weekend so I cant ring for advice so I am turning to the Fishraider fraternity for any ideas, thanks in advance guys..
  5. I feel for you, hopefully insurance comes through for you....on a side note I like the way you stopped for a pic before checking what was broken and what would have survived!!
  6. had a look up that way this morning, but didnt go right to the end of the flats, got jack of the wind and headed back towards Grays Point, ended up with 4 Flathead around 40cm, a 30cm whiting, a 30cm Flounder and a 27cm Bream. 2 of the flatties and the flounder were on Bloowdworm wrigglers, the rest were on live nippers.
  7. 1st day out on the hacking today in the new (2nd hand boat) , live bloodwoorms done the trick for the whiting, on the corner just down from the boat ramp at Grays Point...3 around 38cm, heaps of undersize and about 10 34-35cm flathead...just couldnt get a keeper flattie. All in all a good day onsidering the wind was pumping.
  8. 1st trip out in the tinnie today, thought Id use Woronora boat ramp as a good chance it would be quiet....no probs...all going well, back the boat down the ramp...get out push the boat off the trailer....never checked the adjustment of the tow hitch on th the tow ball...trailer comes off the ball, thankfully the safety chain grabbed it. Had to grab an innocent picknicker to help me pull the trailer back up and on to the car though. Rest of the trip was incident free thankfully, even caught 2 decent whiting for dinner.
  9. Thanks guys, dchu..been looking for a while, just waited till I found exactly what I want...now off to BCF to spend some more money!!
  10. Worked it out!!!..hopefully will be on the water tommorow if not definately Monday!
  11. No squid pics unfortunaltely...totally forgot to do it!!...boat pics soon when I work this new bloody phone out...
  12. Woke up this morning about 4.30 and could hear the rain coming down, tried to roll over but for some reason couldnt get back to sleep. About 5am a great thought hit me...the rain is slowing.....should try for a squid or two. By the time I dragged myself out of bed it was 5.15 and by the time I started fishing was nearly light, anyway glad i did as those 6 squid are tasting just great at the minute marinated in Sweet chilli, ginger and garlic!! The day only got better after that, went and bought myself a boat!!!
  13. Theres a very minor chance that the Impellor has been damaged, if it pumped water again straight away I would say you are 99% clear. Tell your mate to supply the beer for the next trip and make it his job to watch the telltale the whole trip
  14. Do you realy need 30lb braid? Lighter line will cast further..make sure your spool is full, not 3/4 full as the drag of the line running over the lip of the spool will slow the line speed down which will decrease the distance as well. Before you head to the wharf next tie a sinker onto your line and head down to the local park (making sure there is no kids around) and have a practice. And also beware, old timers might just be having a bit of fun watching you bust a gut every time trying to hit the imaginary deep hole!
  15. Thanks guys, along the lines of what I was thinking, If I do go down that road i will look at installing extra full length ribs before I start chopping!
  16. I know this is a bit of a general question and noone can give an exact answer, but is it safe to remove a centre bench seat out of a 12-13ft tinnie that comes with 3 seats. Ive been looking to buy one and can never find exactly what I want for the right price so have been toying with the idea of the seat removal. Thanks in Advance guys.
  17. Interesting that, I had an hour to kill yesterday so went to Kurnell flicking a soft plastic around. There was a fair swell pushing in between the groynes and twice I got hit basically at my feet right on the dropoff In the middle of the whitewater. Unfortunately both times I was in daydream land and missed the strike as it was the last thing I was expecting!
  18. Thanks Bream Chaser, could possibly have been a Jew, and it was the size of the scale that is throwing me, if it helps it was at 9.30am, direct sunlight on the water and probably only 2ft deep, with a small scholl of poddy mullet scattering around the area.
  19. A bit of a wierd question here, but does anyone have a picture of a large flathead scale. Reason being I was flicking some plastics around the Woronora River yesterday morning when I had a massive hit and something screamed off about 40 metres of line before the hook pulled. Upon retreiving the lure a large scale was embedded on the hook point(obviously foul hooked). The scale definately wasnt bream or mullet and its been that long since I have caught a large flatty just want to be sure. Unfortunatley I didnt have a camera or phone on me but the scale was about 6mm across with a brown tinge across the bottom edge.
  20. I havent tried there for a long time, but the headland between Jibbon Beach and Bundeena used to hold plenty, also the moorings in South West Arm normally hold Slimies and Yackas. Also around marinas like the RMYC and Burraneer Bay also hold them if you can sneak in close.
  21. I have to agree, I have a Sienna 1000 as well with 6lb braid it is a great allround setup.
  22. Looks like a shark of some sort to me as well.
  23. If they are just sitting in the one spot, chances are they were big rays.
  24. Hi all, I also live in the Sutherland Shire. Been a member here for a while but only just rediscovered the place. Im 40 with a young family. Spent more than 20 years Game Fishing all over the East Coast before the kids came along and curtailed that. Have recently rediscovered the enjoyment of fishing in the rivers and now enjoy nothing more than soaking a line in the Port Hacking. Hope to be more involved in this site as the wealth of knowledge here is amazing. Cheers Mark
