  1. Great fishing. Those reds are perfect size for the table. Congrats. Cheers Red
  2. Thanks Craig, went and inspected the boat however i will give it a miss. The boat appears to have been torn and poorly repaired on the port side. Oh well, it was too good to be true after all. The hunt continues. Thanks for all your help. Regards Red
  3. Cheers Chris. Thanks for your input. Craig from Huett Marine has also replied via PM which is much appreciated . Regards Red
  4. G'day Raiders, i'm considering purchasing a boat with a 2000 model Evinrude 90Hp FICHT engine. Looking for suggestions/opinions on this engine if possible. The boat appears to be in excellent condition however the well publicised FICHT issues are a concern. Did the V4's also experience the issues that brought OMC to its knees? Regards Red
  5. Happy Birthday guys. Red
  6. Low profile Baitcasters are my prefered choice for lure casting to species that will peel line.....kings, jews etc. They are so much more comfortable to palm and are generally much lighter than traditional round baitcasters. I also like the lack of wind knots, the accurate casts and the lockability factor....especially on kings around structure. I've tried so many of them and i've gotta say that the Daiwa Alphas and the Shimano Scorpion 1000 are the best so far. The Scorpion will throw bream lures however a spin reel is probably a better option. Cheers Red

    Fishing Rods

Pfleuger Asaro 6-10kg would be my pick. Quality blank, quality components and well suited to both bait and lure fishing. Cheers Red
  8. The T-Curve 400 Jig would go nicely with your reel. Cheers Red
  9. Have you looked at the Penn Spinfisher Big Game rod series? They make a 10 footer that would suit your luring needs. Being graphite, they are light with plenty of spine. Cheers Red
  10. Silstar Crystal Blue would be a great choice for your reel. Cheers Red
  11. Best Jew i've seen in ages . Cheers Red
  12. Great to see another baitcaster fan on the forum. The Luna and Pluton reels are awesome. The Luna 300 comes with a ratchet which can come in handy for live baiting and light trolling. Both reels are too large for breaming but perfect for kings, jews, reds etc Cheers Red

    Aero's Birthday

Happy birthday pal. I hear you had a great arvo Cheers Red
  14. Wise choice Silvo . All we need now is some good reports. Cheers Red
  15. Really depends on what line class you are intending to run. Picked up a Steez Hot Dog for mine. Its one sweet combo. Cheers Red
  16. Lovely rig you have there Grant. Looks like a fun machine Cheers Red
  17. Hi Tony, like your good self, i'm not familiar with that particular reel however its got to be something easy. First, try removing the anti-reverse switch. If it doesn't have a screw, try moving the anti-reverse switch to the centre position and see if you can jiggle the main gear out. Failing that, turn the gear and see if you have access to the back of the main shaft. I'm sure you've probably tried this already. If you still have no joy, send it my way. I'd love to have a play. Cheers Red
  18. Saragosa and T-Curve for sure. Full metal body and rotor on the Saragosa is a clear winner. Not so sure about the new Chinese made Saltist . Looks cheap and nasty. Cheers Red
  19. Both manufacturers have their strengths. For example, you don't see many Gameboats using Daiwa reels. On the other hand, most bream fisho's use Daiwa, most jew fisho's use Shimano, most beach fisho's use Alvey.....etc Personally use several brands and have a preference for Shimano when it comes to pricing of parts and after sales service . Cheers Red
  20. G'day Joe, i think we give the humble squid too much credit. Any old leader will do the job. In saying that, we mainly use flourocarbon between 12 and 16lb in order to avoid losing jigs to weed, rocks etc. You need enough strength to straighten the prongs. There was one time where we had a jig rigged on 40lb pink Ande leader and it took most of the squid that day......strange???? I think there are more important fators such as jig size, colour, sink rate, retrieve style. Cheers Red

    New Toy..

Great looking reel. Almost too pretty to use. Cheers Red

    Braid

Hard to go past Fireline for light eggbeaters. Its strong, ties a good knot, casts well and relatively inexpensive. I really like the 4 and 6lb stuff in particular. My experiences with ultra-light "true" braids on eggbeaters have not been pleasant to say the least. Have heard very good things about Stren Microfuse. Will give it a go this season. Cheers Red

    New Saltiga Rod

Nice outfit Greg. Looks like the rod i'm looking for. Cheers Red
  24. Congrats Grant. What a great feeling it must be to nail such a fish on your last cast Cheers Red
