  1. Grant, i share the same experiences. These are the only nights we will not fish. The effort/reward ratio has been poor at best. Some will disagree and thats the beauty of fishing. No one method is right and as you say, different locations fire on different conditions. You do hear of the odd good capture on the night of the moon but i'd rather spend these nights with the family and friends. Cheers Red

    Jew On Blades.

Thanks Chris, it had to happen one day. Both you and Steve have been putting me onto quality fish whilst breaming but stopping them before they find the structure has proved impossible. It was good to land the small one just to put an end to the frustration. Thanks for cleaning out all the bream too I hear you had a blinder session saturday arvo with both numbers and size. Steve and i were cursing you as we couldn't get a sniff but the jewfish encounters made up for it. Still spewing about the bigger fish we've lost, especially that keg in the Roseville flats that beat us after being in it with a great chance but won't be making the same mistakes again. From here on its minimum 8lb leader on the blades . Cheers Red
  3. G'day mate, myself and two other jewfish tragics, (namely my brother and JJ) have caught them on every phase of the moon. Full moon has been excellent as has the new moon. There are indeed more factors than just the moon and tide. Barometer, water temp, size of the tide, air temp, wind direction, humidity and most importantly the one thing that attracts jew to the area.......Bait! People will will be rolling on the floor in hysterics with the "air temp and humidity" comment but i believe this to be more crucial than the moon phase. I won't go into too much detail because this post will end up an essay and nobody needs to be put through that..... Keen to hear other peoples comments/observations. Regards Red

Thanks mate. Got enough for a few sessions so will give the calamari a break for a while. My jewie form hasn't been great in recent times, however between my brother, Aero, Rodholder and JJ......one of these guys is going to nail a cracker. Cheers Red

    Jew On Blades.

Cheers guys and happy blading to all. Went out for a quick calamari session this morning and once again had a ball. This time they were even more ravenous with 25 hitting the deck in 40 minutes. Had to be home by 8am which meant no further fishing but at least the bait freezer is stocked and ready for the jewie season ahead. The calamari are rather large at the moment and the challenge will be to find jews large enough to engulf them. Hope the pic works. Cheers Red
  8. G'day Raiders, Fished Botany today with Steve "Rodholder" on his swanky Triton fishing machine. The plan was to spend 1hr trying to get a few calamari and to try and convert them into kings. Well the first part went well with 24 calamari doing time in the bait tanks. 18 of the calamari were tanks with one absolute monster and only two being small enough as live baits. The kings weren't home so we decided to have a go at bream on the blades. They too were on holidays . We persist and half an hour later, bang.....hooked up to something solid on the 4lb tackle. After a deep slugfest an 82cm jew is boatside and netted. After a few high fives and a quick happy snap, we go back to the possie where the hookup came from and the very next cast.....BANG! This fish was on a mission and obviously of a much better class. There was only a couple of metres left on the spool so we chase it down but were seriously undergunned. After a great fight, the fish wore through the 4lb and thoroughly deserved its freedom. Steve, thanks for another memorable day out. I can feel a good season coming on Cheers Red
  9. Boban, congrats on a mighty fine purchase. May she serve you well Regards Red
  10. Great boat! Huntsman hulls sure raise fish Cheers Red
  11. What a great day Casey Stoner wins the Aussie Moto GP and then Manly embarass the Storm in mighty fine fashion. I'm a happy chappy Cheers Red
  12. Rob, circle hooks are not suitable for lure fishing. Try double hooks like the ones on the Yo Zuri Bonita's or single stainless hooks. Cheers Red
  13. Yep, thats right Ant. Its actually a bug and it emitts light when disturbed. Spoke to a marine biologist about it up at Couran Cove during a fishing comp presentation and she blew me away with the facts. She told me the name of the bug but one too many drinks took care of that Have caught plenty of jew over the years when this bug has been thick. Naturally it stands out a lot more when there's little or no moon, as we've had in recent days. The down side is, this bug makes jews look HUGE when down deep. The trail of light behind the fish is an awesome sight No torch required for gaffshots. Cheers Red
  14. Seems a large table is no longer required with less and less fish coming in from the Hawkesbury. Hope its only temporary. Cheers Red
  15. Sounds like you all had a ball. Love the pics. Cheers Red
  16. Nats, at least you had a good go at them. Hope you enjoy living in England. Would love to go there just to watch a Liverpool v Man United match Cheers Red
  17. What a pleasant suprise Great fish! Cheers Red
  18. Lovely Bream there Greg Congrats on a first class session. Cheers Red
  19. That's easy.......try the Certate 3500HD Custom. Its a seriously powerful little reel Cheers Red
  20. That's what i'm thinking too Stewy. Cheers Red
  21. Slinky, i believe thay are still around. I once bought the slightly more upmarket Penn Affinity for $115 as a thrasher and was suprised at the quality and strength for such a cheapy. The affinity has a full metal body and rotor which makes it a tad heavy but at that price its hard to complain. The drags are indeed incredible smooth and powerful. Cheers Red
  22. Fantastic catch Dan How exciting! Inhlanzi is spot on. Enjoy the journey Regards Red

Double hook rigs are better for trolling lures. Make sure you are using good strong hooks such as Mustad 7691s. 80lb braid will straighten light gauge hooks with ease. Cheers Red
