  1. Great result Humesy. Your mojo is here to stay. Cheers Red
  2. Squid are perhaps the easiest species to target and master. Best advice is, go out and dedicate two or three entire sessions on catching the buggers. You will be suprised by how much you will learn and also how suicidal these things are at times. I'd give fishing away if i had to resort to buying live squid off a fellow fisho . Cheers Red

If you plan on ever throwing chromies at pelagics, get yourself a fast reel such as a Stradic. If its plastics only, go the Daiwa. I own several small Daiwa's and throwing chromies at speedsters is a painful experience . Cheers Red

    Tackle Hates

Good topic Greg My tackle hate is when a company gets their reels made in China yet still command "Made in Japan" prices. Man, that's so not cool Cheers Red
  5. Chef, you are on fire Hope you make the most of this purple patch you are in. Cheers Red
  6. Mate, i don't think 600m would be enough for big Blues if you plan on trolling lures. Should be sufficient for live baiting though. I've seen how fast a 300kg blue strips 37kg line.....had us down to 100m tops. Awesome fish Cheers Red
  7. Dave, like Bobfish i generally use 2 x 10/0 hooks. Even soapies don't have trouble getting these down. I suggest you try using 8/0 hooks as a minimum, especially when using good sized baits aimed at better fish. Cheers Red
  8. Greg, love the rig mate. You have great taste in boats. I kinda like the name "Scallywag". You have enough horsepower to justify such a name Are you doing Port Stephens this season? Regards Red
  9. Awesome squid mate..........3.2kg Cheers Red
  10. How big were your hooks? We leave the rod in strike with plenty of drag, unless using big livies. Cheers Red
  11. Great fish mate. Congrats They look so impressive with sickles like that. Cheers Red
  12. BSJ, we were told that the present situation will be in place till 2011. I feel for the safety of boaties who do not get out very often and for visiting anglers who don't have local knowlege. With hot summer nights around the corner i feel a tragedy is almost inevitable. My advice, fish the Hacking, Harbour or Pittwater. The bay has been officially gone to the dogs! Cheers Red
  13. Don't get me started on this topic We've had ding dong battles with the Baulderstone staff who seem to think they have police-like authority. Thankfully we have an excellent club president who has defended us like a brother What they've done is downright dangerous and in my opinion illegal. The lighting (what lighting?) is totally inadequate and is a disaster waiting to happen. I hope no one loses their life because of this. You will need to fit your boat out with serious spotlights if you wish to night fish in future. To top it off, the bay has never fished so badly. So much for a recreational fishing haven More like an industrial sewer! Cheers Red
  14. Nice fish.....nice story. Congrats Cheers Red
  15. Excellent reel mate. I have the HD Custom version of yours and can't fault it. Here's hoping the kings show up in the bay. This time last year, it was on for young and old. Kings galore! Must be something to do with global warming......15 degrees forecast in Sydney tomorrow As for what rod, the Daiwa Nabura is worth a look. Cheers Red
  16. Kingfish hands down, followed by barra and jew.

    Calamari

Great work Nova. Good to see a few raiders getting into them They were on the chew again yesterday, with Steve and i getting quite a few. They saved the day for us, as fishing was otherwise slow. Where have the rat kings gone? Might have to bite the bullet and start fishing the harbour. Cheers Red
  18. Good report Stewy Judging by the amount of bottletops in the last pic, a great time was had by all. Congrats to the award winners. Cheers Red

    The Past

Great read Greg . Several times we seen you scoot past in the Skeeter at lightning speed, obviously having a ball. Hope the Contender proves to be a great boat. It was one of the most impessive boats i seen at the boat show. I have a mate who is also looking at getting into one. He's tossing up on motor options at the moment. What engine or engines did you go for? Cheers Red

Mate, many of us fishos have this problem. Sure beats putting your hard earnt through the pokies Cheers Red

    Trolling ?

Rapala CD9 and CD11's have produced many fish for us over the years. We troll them at around 4 or 5 knots. Also try trolling little white flies when the rat kings and salmon are around. They are deadly when the conventional lures fail. Red

    Jew On Blades.

Grant, if you ever come down to Sydney, feel free to drop in for a beer and i'll give you some squid to take home. GregL, hope you enjoy your bluewater years. Its a whole new world and can be much tougher than river/estuary fishing at times but also much more rewarding with the variety and size on offer. I'm sure the reds will nail the blades. Looking forward to your reports Chris, i like the way you think Pulled in to the local tacklo yesterday and bought some 8lb flouro. No doubt the heavy leader will only result in a reduction of bites and we'll be back down to 4lb before too long Just had visions of the blade eating jew that done you over in the Harhour. Pure class Mariner, the safety net came with the tramp. From memory, the brand is called Action. The scallywags have a ball in it and i have piece of mind. It doubles up as a great bargaining tool which is a bonus.....homework must be completed before they get to use it Works a treat! Cheers Red
  23. Boof, you are on the money. I remember the days when my mum would line up at the Layby counter in stores like Target. Many people used the Layby system back then. I wonder how many do now??? I wonder how many have even heard of layby? These days, we buy things we don't need with money we don't have. And thats a worry Cheers Red
  24. Great fish mate! Especially on a jig Best capture i've seen in a long while. Congrats Cheers Red
  25. Good topic that will affect us all in some way. I don't particularly like the advice given by the experts. They tell Aussies to not sell, don't panic.....etc One things for sure, the investors that smelt a rat and sold early in the piece are doing alot better right now than the ones that held on. What ever happened to the golden rule of investing.......setting a stop loss? I think this market has a way to go yet, maybe down to 3300 points??? Only time will tell. There's going to be some cheap boats on the market and i'm guessing some boatyards will be forced to close their doors. Cheers Red
