  1. Thanks Tiger. I've never used the turtle back design - do you use it mainly for bream?

I haven't used them very often ......yet! The times I have used them though they seem to perform well and have have decided for me personally that it's a "must have" in the tackle bag. Their design allows them to wriggle effectively with minimum movement. I've caught bream, trevs, flatties and of course whiting. There are more experienced SP fisho's than me on this site that can comment on SP's for whiting.

  2. G’day Raiders,

Was fortunate enough to enjoy some fishing in our glorious harbour with a mate on Sunday. We tried for squid near Balmoral hoping to break my squid duck – not this time – I need to do a refresher on sqidding by Slinky…again! Anyway, off to Sow and Pigs we go where we donate a fair bit of our tackle on the structure below ;) . We soon tired of that and moved onto Clifton Gardens. We drifted there for a couple of hours where I managed two flatties around the 42cm mark on a six inch sand eel in camo and a trevally at 33cm with a four inch turtle back worm in pumpkin seed. Even though it wasn’t his target species, Skip enticed a couple of octopus to hang onto his bait all the way to the boat. :P

With the wind starting to pick up we headed into Middle Harbour for the last couple of hours. We saw a huge school of Tailor that we threw our plastics at with a couple hungry enough to be enticed. We saw a larger fish causing havoc amongst them and could only guess that it was a Jewie. We placed a live Tailor out the back of the boat hoping to entice Mr Jewie :1Lighten: but I’d imagine that he’d probably had enough of a feed of choppers by this stage.

We did manage a couple of decent flatties though and at one stage I got excited (hopeful) when I felt the headshakes thinking it might be a mulloway. One flatty went 53cm. caught on a 5 inch jerk shad in lime tiger and the other went 60cm caught on a 6 inch sand eel in camo which was Skip’s PB on plastic.

  3. Hi all,

Haven't posted for a while, as I've been too lazy! Went down to Clovelly beach last night for quick flick. Tried a prawnstar for about 15 minutes hoping for a bream, but not inquiries. Changed up to a gulp six inch worm in bloodworm colour and got a little flatty (about 20cm) which went back in the drink and then to my surprise hooked a nice 30cm whiting. I know poppers have been flavour of the month for whiting, but I'd like to know if any other raiders target whiting with sp's, and if so what sort of jighead, rig they use.

    Cheers

    G'day FM,

I've caught the odd whiting on 4lb line, 6lb leader, size 1/0 - 1/8oz or 1/16oz jig head on various plastics such as 4" Turtle back in pumkin seed and 3" prawn in nuclear chicken. I was targeting bream though! :biggrin2:

  4. I’d like to share an amusing incident with you.

As with most kids my son’s age, their baby teeth start to wobble and fall out one by one. Some fall out chewing on dinner, some are a bit more stubborn. Tonight my son had an episode of the latter. I often joked with him about tying one end of a piece of string to his wobbly tooth and the other to a door handle……..

Tonight I took it a step further by fetching some 10lb monofilament fishing line and suggested he open his mouth. To my surprise he did and then the sight of me looping a knot ready to sling over his tooth still did not deter him. I thought …well OK let’s give it a go! :1Lighten: I slipped it over his tooth then hesitated again. He didn’t flinch. I gave it a quick tug as if a Yacka were on the end of the line…..BINGO the tooth came out with a minimum of fuss to be placed under the pillow for the tooth fairy to take away tonight :biggrin2:

Now there is a use for fishing line I never thought I'd employ! :074:

  5. What sort of fish do you normally get in that little private water mate? :074:

    Slinky,

I sometimes feel like I have more success there :1prop: I haven't lost a lure there yet!

Now that you're a full on plastics convert you'll have to start watching your bank account closely, it will now be literally impossible to walk into a tackle store and walk out without at least a packet of tails or jig heads.

    Cheers, Slinky

I recently returned from a store with more SP's than I intended to originally purchase. Before I hit the cash register I picked up a fry pan for the :wife::1Lighten: When I returned home I gave her the fry pan (in a seperate bag of course) only to discover I left the reciept with all my purchases in that bag!!!

  6. Tiger Cam,

Some great fish. I am going down to the Shoalhaven River next weekend, could you let me in on some of spots where fish like those may be located.

Agree with Nashy. Another area is along the edge of the weed beds on the southern side between Broughton Creek and Comerong Island for flathead, bream and whiting. You could also try "the wall" opposite the Nowra golf club for EP's, but try and get there early as it's a popular spot for pleasure craft, particularly on the w/e.

Good luck and look forward to your report.

    Cheers,

    Cam

  7. Apologies for the late post.

I spent the better part of the festive season at the in-laws whom near Nowra with a couple of days at Bega to boot. Naturally the boat and fishing gear accompanied me every kilometre. :biggrin2: So I was fortunate enough to spend some early mornings on the Shoalhaven and Bega Rivers.

One of my Christmas gifts was a Green Back Switchblade which I have never used before. I thought I’d practice my casting in the in-laws pool on Christmas day :1Lighten: . Candid photo courtesy of FIL.

Next morning I knew of a spot in the Shoalhaven where I could unleash it. First cast was long and with great anticipation I started to wind back slowly when it snagged…..oh oh …..snap…….sh!te :1crybaby: Oh well ….back to the plastics.

Here are some of the fish taken with the SP that did the damage:

  8. I also have a Yamaha 50hp (2001 model 2 stroke) which is doing very similar things. I'd be on a plane then all of a sudden lose power. I found that if the decky primes it as we're travelling, I'd regain power. Problem is that the decky was getting RSI

I've had enough of the uncertainty so I've booked it in with Huey to interrogate.

    Cheers,

    Cam
