    Radio Gaga

David you might like to run this one past Geoff... did the GME radio come with it's own arial did it mate or did you add a multi purpose arial that is meant to suit the band width? ..if so I'd be guessing that, having picked up other programmes, the problem might be a compatiabilty problem with the new GME300 technology perhaps and the particular arial... Cheers Byron
  4. Quote W.T Googenheimer, Buffalo, Kentucky zip 00921 "to make your spinach work even better on blackfish and other vegetable eaters, it's usually a good idea to develop your own spinach from seedlings gradually introduced to a saltwater enviromnent. Every so often call down to your favourite blackfish spot right on the top of the tide and fill two buckets with salt water (you carry one in each hand) but be sure to scoop up a good amount of the foamy residue left on the surface before the tide changes and washes the fluffier parts away. Simply add half a bucket of that to your spinach patch every four days or so. Keep a close eye on the spinach during the fall but for the remainder of winter wait until the leaves all but mature and then as soon as the Rockies start to thaw carefully spread a few moist cow pads (preferably thawed) around the stem of each spinach perhaps two or three high so as to counter balance any methane content that may have bio-degraded out of the residue you have been collecting progressively i.e.the methane content has been in the aquatic basm you skimmed off the foam left on the surface at the blackfish grounds, and since the start of fall remember" Good luck with the spinach and let's know how you go in the spring before the blackfish quieten down.. Cheers jewgaffer
  5. + 1.... I couldn't agree more fishmaniac and fortheloveof...Fishermen like to run together and fish together but, left to their own devices in matters like this, can be quite apathetic, feel as though they would only be a voice in the wilderness and tend to get on with their lives thinking that somebody else will surely take care of it properly on their behalf and sadly in the past have proven to be badly mistaken. In America it even took a new President to recognise the balony and give the people the right to fish where they were used to... Cheers jewgaffer
  6. Best Wishes to in the Grand Final Roberta & Luderick Luke... Even if we don't see a dead heat between the two of you after the weigh in, first and second prize will be quite appropriate on this occasion please, thanks By the way Roberta if it was going to be blowing like a gale I would have thought use big wrigglers and go extra heavy on the jig heads but didn't want to Jonah you like the typical stage door Arthur would have...In case you don't know what a stage door Arthur is, Arthur was usually found all dolled up to the hilt handing out a bunch of flowers to any outstretched arm that came out of a gap in the side door at the Tivoli when the prima donnas and ballerinas were there in the fifties On a serious note Roberta and Luke I'm sure everyone here at Fishraider will be plugging away for you and wishing you both every success possible.. Cheers jewgaffer
  7. Is this the same species of toad fish that you are referring to Peter? this particular green toad was caught in the Hawkesbury by jewdreamer in a double hook up with a catfish during a jew session we had just behind a reef back in January.. Jewdreamer boated his green toad not long after Cungee George caught a green toad that appeared to be at least 4 kilos.. toads usually appear to run hand in hand in deep water with the other late run out tide scavengers and like leather jackets green toads do some damage to the leader everytime you catch one ... Cheers jewgaffer
  8. By the way Mcfishing have you had a chance to look at the 750 Fin Nors? I think I'll run this big 950 of mine straight out the back of the boat in between a Daiwa 600 overhead and a non casting Alvey and I'll probably run dead baits and use 9 footers on these three and use the 7 footers to cast live bait well out to the side of the boat.. These 950's are a helluva powerful reel and I think the 850 only have a smaller size spool on them .. I reckon the 750 Fin Nors would be big enough to use in estuarys anyway.. It seems Finn Nors are hard to come by at the moment and apparently the offshores sell out as soon as they hit the shelves... Cheers jewgaffer
  9. Nice result on the jew Peter along with a few nice bream for the table as well. Shame about the leader giving way during a decent sort of a run.. nevertheless in case you happen to hook up that one jewfish of a lifetime for instance it pays to always change the leader before you bait up as soon feel any roughness in the leader line at all and especially after catching an eel. Cheers jewgaffer
  10. You certainly got the best out of your holiday over in New Zealand Joco..I like the look of all those lobsters and the abolone too and by the look of it that oversize freshwater salmon would have certainly given you a fair bit of curry and a lot of running to do on the light gear ay.. I must say I thought that mice had more brains than to cross over a stream where they're likely to get eaten but it looks as though the trout over there in New Zealand are particularly observant and certainly seem to make up for the lack of snakes over there.. I wonder how many of the locals over there eat any undigested mice they encounter along with the roe these days Cheers jewgaffer
  11. Awesome lure fishing Joco...One would think that results like these in both saltwater and freshwater using only artificial baits would have attracted at least twenty replies by now. I'm sure our members are still in awe of these outstanding ongoing results and the photos alone certainly tell the story well... Well done Joco Cheers jewgaffer
  12. Hi cant catch any, I must say I prefer to look for change days and try to be out there on the water at the actual am or pm time that I consider to be closest to the expected arrival of the change- as it seems to me as tho the bite livens up just before and during any sort of a change and particularly during the start of storms with heavy rain and I don't think that's been only a coincidence on one particular day either. In the case of wind change, I find forecast times are fairly acurate with the exception of the extent of the power of the gusts- and within reason, based on my favourite days which are north easterly change days particularly where there are steady 15 knot winds once the morning settles, the stronger the gusts above average the better the change day as far as I'm concerned. If you go off seabreeze you'll see that we've been having quite a few days of consistent southerlys on end and I've always found that the fishing in general tapers right off after a couple of days of weather that's been consistently the same- be it either good or bad weather.... Next Thursday looks to be a very good target day to me for a lively bite for species in general according to tide- On Thursday the southerly wind is forecast to change around to more of an easterly direction averaging out at about 15 knots which to me is an ideal wind speed particularly if you are fishing a morning and an afternoon run in tide session and particularly fishing close to the mouth of an estuary as any easterly aspect pushes into the run in tide roll over.. I'm hoping to go out on Monday to give my 35hp motor a final test run with three on board to see if I need to update the power to 50 or 60hp now that I have added more weight to my boat in terms of an extra live bait tank, 24v electric motor batteries and a larger ice box.. I've chosen Monday only because a cloudy day with rain is forecast which means a change in the atmosphere even tho the southerly influence continues on until Thursday's turn around which in my opinion will give the best chances of having good bite periods for longer in general according to tide. Whilst it's good to be out on the water on a nice day, however when there's been a series of nice days on end with steady, unfluctuating barometric pressure in the main, you have to work a lot harder whereas you'll find that the change days are the best days to liven up the bite and increase the length of the bite period in general as well Cheers jewgaffer
  13. Sorry to hear about this Poddy Trapper and I hope little Jayden recovers quickly. How unlucky is the little bloke going to be, it's got me beat how these savage dogs are allowed to keep on running around attacking people especially little kids. All the best Jayden and I hope you get well enough soon to just go out and catch heaps of fish with your Dad again.. Cheers jewgaffer
  14. Top report Roberta and my congratulations to Keith on yet another great marathon win and Roberta let Keith know that I wasn't quite out of breath last time we spoke I simply managed to swallow a fly that found its way into in my coffee half way thru our marathon telephone phone converation What a good hospitable bloke this Jewhunter is ay, everytime I've tried to call into Murwillimbah to catch up with Grant, the roads seemed to be closed off somewhere or other because of the rains...Roberta, I don't think Grant chose the wrong spot in the murky water at all and I'll tell you why- somewhere in the back of Grant's mind he really wanted to get you onto a few big jewfish and mangrove jack and somehow Grant just managed to be unlucky on the day in that respect, but the other fish made up for it tho as Grant's young bloke is improving all the time and looks to have the makings of a future tournament winner to me... I really hope both Luderick Luke and yourself do exceptionally well in the grand final and this time, being the wild card in the field, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see you standing up on the winners platform Roberta! Cheers jewgaffer
  15. I hope the girls do exceptionally well Andrew and having met Sasha I know old Geoff would be wishing them all the best too...I think stardom is all about originality and I believe that there is a good opportunity here for the girls to revive some of the all time favourite love songs etc mixed in with the old style beat of groups like the Andrew Sisters, Manhatten Transfer and being an all female vocal group perhaps they might also consider reviving those all time favourites such as the songs sung in falsetto style by the Platters. Cheers jewgaffer
  16. Yeah as long as they stayed framed right where they are Cheers jewgaffer
  17. Well done on the Kingfish and jewfish double fishergirl ..We could well see quite a bit of helter skelter going on this winter plus a few overboards if hoodlum kingfish schools averaging around 15-30 kilos decide to come into the bait grounds every day and get right into the hairtail fishos' bait jigs Cheers jewgaffer
  18. Good effort on the jew Mcfishn and full credit to Mike Fishbones for getting back into the jew fishing for a change..going on the number of fish around this year, I wouldn't be surprised if we see an invasion of school jewfish as from what I hear there are literally acres of bull mullet hovering around Sydney...I hope you both have plenty of old jars around for your jewel collection this year, well at least enough to last you until the end of winter By the way Mc fishn my friend and I finally managed to get hold of a couple of Fin Nor 950 offshore models and I must say I'm quite surprised at what a powerhouse of a reel these 950's are for the money.. If I had my way I'd buy more of these Fin Nors probably 750's but the way my back's been playing up lately, I suppose I had better get my act together and at least spool this one up for starters and just get out and do a session..... Cheers jewgaffer
  19. Great little story Peter you Mother is certainly a very spritely little lady for her age and the first photo certainly say it all..I'll bet she managed to get herself out there on the boat a day after Mothers's Day for your benefit and satisfaction too.. Cheers jewgaffer
  20. "What's The Difference Between A Cheap Rod And A Decent Rod?" Best Answer chosen by W.T. Googenheimer & Associates:- "If the blank is the same and the guides and reel seat are the same the rod manufacturers have saved you up to $300 bucks and over on a rod off the rack by putting an unheard of brand name on the label having only dudded you with the colour combination of your choice if you happen to be colour blind" Cheers jewgaffer
  21. These same people have already made themselves known by announcing that the marine environment is steadily improving all the time.... but it's the same old story a spark can start a fire and the problem is there are far more people living in these types of coastal areas who don't really care about fishing or fishermen at all than there are fishermen, either living in the area or visiting the area and spending lots of money for the purpose of being able to go out in the fresh air with their friends and family as often as they get the chance to be able to just relax and fish .... Cheers jewgaffer
  22. There have been far too many casualties among rock fishermen, women and children in the past. I strongly believe that the wearing of life jackets should be made compulsory for people fishing off the rocks as if they happened to slip or be washed into the water by a wave they would be at least in some sort of a position to make their way further away from the shore until some form of help arrived...i.e. instead of panicking and being constantly bashed against the rocks in a futile effort to climb to safety. It should also be made compulsory that rock fishermen women, and children wear some form of waterproof emergency lighting...the life jackets should be specially designed and designated to rock fishing, should also have in built waterproof lighting as well as containing sections luminous material.... Cheers jewgaffer
  23. Hi yowie that was a quite a good session you had at Lily Pilly catching snapper around that size in the Hacking is a sign that the schools are starting to come in along with the cooler weather..you'd never be sure when the schools would arrive until they appeared in the deep water in Gunnamatta Bay or Burraneer Bay as bi catch during a jewfish session... Most of the sizes were around 25cm up to 30-35 and apart from an occasional humpy snapper being caught in the deep water at any old time, not many fish among the average school even had the early signs of developing a hump.. the deep water among the boats in Gunnamatta Bay and Burraneer Bay during the night was the place to be and they used to come on during the last quarter of a run in tide at night and a run or two and no hook up usually meant tying a trebble off the main hook and using squid strips.. I'm not sure what the school jewfish situation will be like in the Hacking this year but sometimes it was better to start off using the trebble anyway as you often had to be there at low tide in the winter to be able to rely on any sort of a take home bi catch, whereas even at this stage it appears that winter fishing in general is going to be improve out of sight..... Cheers jewgaffer
  24. Good effort barcrusher I found the report was full of suspense too and right down to the actual size of the jew That metre long jew would have to be pretty close to 10 kilos I'd say.. there's still a mile of soapies around but it seems mainly in the Georges and the Hawkesbury so it looks like breeding aize school jew might have finally arrived in the harbour...It might be a good time to tweek up the jewfish gear and get out there more often as fishing has been quite good in general for a long time now and it will very interesting to see Sydney well and truly innundated with good size jewfish. Cheers jewgaffer
  25. Hi Hamerz good effort on the bream and congratulations on the personal best which is near enough to four inches longer than a foot long bream were all the bream lighter coloured were they hamerz? .....I reckon you'll do much better on the jewfish when the tide bottoms out around sunset..the tides were a bit topsy turvey this week, the run in tide seems to fish better upriver and the last few hours of the run out seems to bring out all the rubbish fish...it could be interesting to see how the Bangor bridge performs and see if it might be working during the run out tide like CC bridge by changing sides and fishing back towards the pylons for at least two or three hours after the boat turns... Cheers jewgaffer
