  1. Good to see the power of prayer works on yet another level of our earthly pursuit.
  2. Thanks Guys for the head up. I almost forget.
  3. what a catch. Great photos and report. Good to see you enjoyed the day with a good feed. I will be very interested to see what your lure catch.
  4. I would like to have a boat license too.
  5. Good for you. Guess you won't be walking up and down Dolls Point casting soft plastic anymore. Fantastic report and it made me chuckle.
  6. I enjoyed reading your report. It is great to see different fish in different parts of the world. The soon hock is one ugly fish.
  7. Everyone knows Jewgaffer is generous to share his fishing knowledge. And for that I take my hat off to you. I wish Jewgaffer speedy recovery and hope to read his posts again very soon.
  8. How do you avoid snagging up on the beach? Thanks for the report.
  9. That tailor looked huge! Excellent work.
  10. www.dpi.nsw.gov.au may help. I am not aware of bait collection restriction in the Harbour. General bag limit for beach worms is 20 and pipis 50. Most protected zones have big signs, so you should know if you see one.
  11. Give us some pictures. Sorry to hear the tailors came in just as you were leaving. Can't help but wonder why didn't you turn back or stop? Thanks for the cheerful report.
  12. Good wrok Pete and nice report + photos. Who knows in few years time, you might need to go back to Spoz for his jewfish secrets!
  13. Thanks for the info. I tried anyway but the lines came off very easily. So yes confirm that mid knot is not good for thin lines.
  14. Just wondering would mid knot work just as good with say 15lb braid and 12lb mono?
  15. Fishing in new spot and managed to catch fish is top effort. But the winner of the day goes to the chef who cooked the fish. they look so yummy!
  16. We caught 5 breams and 2 whitings on sat night. Breams bar one caught on mullet fillet. Whiting on beach worms.
  17. Nice report. Well done on nice fish. Did you get a lot of sea weed tangling onto your line? The current swept my rig left and right on Sat night.
  18. Thank you Donna & Stewie for all the work on the site. All the best to you two.
  19. The parasite's name is Cymothoa Exigua. There are posts on the site talking about these horrific yet intriguing parasites. I did my research after catching some yakkas and slimeys with them to know whether they are safe to eat. I decided that it was OK so I ate a few yakkas and slimeys with these tongue eating parasites (parasites were removed prior to cooking). The fish with parasites seem to be smaller and the flesh softer. I can't picked the difference in taste and texture when cooked. I didn't experience any short term effect after eating them. Don't take my words for it - proceed at your own risks. The parasites should be removed as soon as you land the fish. Sometimes they carry eggs and they could hatch into millions (happened to me once, and that was enough...yuk!). Use a small nose plier, grab the head and pull it out the mouth. Or cut the head.
  20. Good for you! Not bad effort. Nice pics too. Guess you have to wake up earlier and got there first before all the boats. Early worms get the fish right?
  21. "Mag them out"? Please explain. Went out on Sunday to further try out the slosh. This time I had birds nest after birds nest. I think I am getting pretty good in untangling the birds nest. I think the wind blowing into my face didn't help. I think I need to put the brake on on next outing. Still haven't got the "level wind thumb" down pad. Does the thumb move fast or slow?
  22. The spot x is Bass & Flinders Point. It was landbased. Yupe it was a good night, fish and lessons. Forgot to mentioned the other group of fellows gave me a set of ganged hooks and bunch of float stopper.
  23. Last Friday armed with 450g of pillies and a float I headed out to Cronulla side of Port Hacking for a session. Hoping to catch some yakkas. It was 9.30 by the time I got there. There were already a few guys fishing. Not long after I dropped the bait in, I saw the guys around started pulling in fish. The guy next to me pulled in a trevally. And then another, and that went on at least 3/4 of his bucket was full. The other people weren't doing too badly either. I dropped one. It wasn't a yakka as it was quite heavy. Anyway I was the one looking at people catching fish while not much happened on my rod end. Then I asked the fellow next to me, "Show us your rig." He was kind enough and showed how he tied his rig, leader length etc. He even told me how to drift, the snag area and how and when to set hook. So armed with info I rearranged my rig. Upsized and upnumber the hooks. First whole pillie went in and I got a tailor. Then second pillie in, it was much heavier. The nice fellow cheered me on and told me to hurry up as the fish might run into rocks. I did as told and managed a 40cm tailor. My missus joined in later and she pulled in a smaller tailor. Then we got a trevally. It was one of the best haul during my short fishing career. Total 4 fish. Nothing compared to other fellows, but I was content It was 4am when we got home. Cut the fish up and boiled up some rice congee with the fish. Ginger, shallots and fried garlic. Keep thinking to myself - life this good, where else but Australia?
  24. Nice result and thanks for sharing the tips.
  25. Very interesting read from a place far far away. Graylings are such good looking fish with big back fins. Wonder if they are edible and if so are they nice? Finlanders are truly blessed to go fishing in their planes.
