  1. Sure is with plenty of big rainbows being caught during September. If you want to try Lyell I was there last weekend and didn't see any rises, the smaller rainbows are really going off on the powerbait everyone seemed to be doing OK.
  2. A fire bucket's just a bailing bucket with a rope attached so you can haul up some water and a fire extinguisher is needed for most of us now. The "Coastal Map 9" indicates it's acceptable as a chart, I really believe their splitting hairs if they don't accept the Port Jackson map, I suggest a polite letter might get you off if you have a clean record.
  3. Usually plenty of yabbies and I have caught spiny or eastern freshwater in Lyell as big as Bustoffs, the ruler sticker given away by fisheries lists them as protected in notified trout water whilst the fishing guide does not so you may have to argue the point if the inspector sees you catch a monster crayfish. No nets of course in any trout waters execpt Jindy and Ecumbene. Regard Charles
  4. I've only been there once during gale winds, however a very fishy looking spot that for sure. Nothing like our sandstone down in Sydney, do you guys wers spikes or stick with some grippy joggers ? Regards Charles
  5. I run mine at least one foot under the surface or right down which is comfortable to grab the tiller handle but you might sometimes get a funny ossilating vibration or hit the bottom in which case simply lift it up a bit, its not a major problem being too low.
  6. Great pics Ray, those guys who went in at Munmorah liked to live dangerously even with a lifejacket a good knock on the head will kill ya . Regards Charles
  7. My understanding is water for Deltas is currently coming from the weir on the upper Duckmaloi rather than Oberon Dam, there are a few different option to get find more water for Oberon dam however they all require money and the policy seems to be wait and hope for rain! Kiwineil yes there is a closed season but you can fish in the dams all year, your best chance of catching something would be Lake Lyell which has more consistant fishing than the others.
  8. It's funny you should mention this as the other day I copped a glancing blow on the head with a lump of wood which instantly cured my Tinnitus for a couple of days, my guess is the jerk adjusted my neck slightly. Another treatment is Ginkgo Biloba which many people feel helps however it is a blood thining medcine and you should ask your doctor before taking it. Regards Charles
  9. The big problem with Oberon Dam is most of the inflow is pumped by tunnell to feed Wang Dam, next season waters being drawn directly from the Duck so the Dam should be higher and the river lower, all we can hope is for some decent rains at this stage.
  10. No you can't it's a catchment area, you might try the little lake near Waterfall which is stocked with bass if you don't mind a bit of a hike.
  11. First thing to pack is your raincoat as its one of those places that can be sunny one minute and pouring rain the next. I've fished this place since it filled with very poor results, the best fishing is said to be when it's nasty weather unless the winds onshore as it can blow so hard it's just imposssible to fish. I don't want to put you off trying too much however you might be better off further south at Pejar Dam.
  12. I only know one tackleshop who has a decent range of Pacific Comp or as their known now Excel and to be honest I could have brought THREE Wilson blanks online for the price they wanted for one. I don't know if their made in NZ or Asia but I"m sure Wilson will get the whole market eventually and charge whatever they like.
  13. That's correct however you still have to obey the speed limit, you should be in and out of neutral if you can't slow down enougth to produce no wash.
  14. Winching a boat isn't a particularly demanding thing, if the winch draw less than 50 amps /hr I'd just run some cable from the car battery to an anderson plugs on the towbar. Preferably upgrade the cars battery but if you keep the motor running you'll be OK. Charles
  15. I do not believe your going to mechanically wear out a modern engine the question is how long will the engine management computer and sensor will last.I recently forked out for a second hand thottle body/air/fuel sensor for my twelve year old suzuki 4WD and the new price was $1200 for this bit. The good news is if these parts do not fail within the engines first few hour then these parts are very reliable, I've just turned the key and my car has run faultlessly for twelve years.
  16. I'm fairly sure it would be goldfish although redfin have recently turned up in the dam so nothings impossible. I have caught a trout in the dam with five three inch goldfish it's stomach and aften troll small or even medium stumpjumers around and you won't get many fish but you'll sure know when a kilo or more of troll hits you lure. It sound like the raiders had a great time up there if it hadn't been mums day I would have joined you guys maybe next year I hope.
  17. GUSA has been owned by a few companies including Hastings and has recently changed hands again, from what I've read on some american forums the last change is for the better. Its worth noting the locally sold blanks have been tailored to local condtions and may be slightly different than the US version even with the same blank number. The Aussie versions are OK and are supposed to be released to the US as well. I'm not sure a price comparision is fair in this case but a the duel helix gives a tougher though more expensive rod.
  18. Not quite mate: Five per day from streams,Oberon,Wang ,Lyell and Chifley are ten,Thompson ck are two per day.The possession limit is a bit tricky being twice the daily limit however if your at Thomos your only allowed four even if you claim they were caught elswhere, same thing with stream don't try taking more than ten and claim they were caught elswhere. The best bet at this time of year is Lyell try some powerbait or tassie devil and you should get amoung them.
  19. Just back from the show and it's much bigger than previous years with the lower floor filled as well as out the back, lot's of boats from very small to very big glass or plate jobs. If you want boats go but nothing in the way of tackle or accessories for sale. Most of the bid dealers are there,Huett, Hunts, Shorts etc , few big Trailercraft I'm sure you could negatate a good price as the manufacture closed down. Buger all if your not actually wanting to buy a boat.
  20. I wouldn’t necessarily discount it as the small perch are quite happy to hang around in ankle deep water; I’ve certainly seen them in some feeders of the Grose River, the waterboard has surveyed pretty extensively and its accepted their found in the Georges but not the Woronora. On the other hand I know there is an NPA chapter up that way and it’s a fact koala bears were once imported to try a stop a housing development up the top reaches of the Georges .
  21. It's just under two km to the gulf, head out to the point at Currcurrang near the waterline and you'll find some steel pegs to climb up a little bit then head south. It's a bit up and down rocks but nothin really dangerious. Unless your into tuna etc I wouldn't really bother, plenty of reef fish a lot closer to the carpark.
  22. I looked at this very idea I while back but it's almost impossible for someone not employed in it to enter the fishing industry, forget being issued a new license it not gona happen.
  23. Hodgey’s right on the money as to the age of those rods as the Clarence was my first rod back in the late sixties and early seventies, used to good effect trout fishing out at Wyangala and school holidays at Bonnie Vale Beach for whiting and tiny flatties. I must of went though about five crappy Daiwa reels before getting a Mitchell, still can’t bring myself to buy a Daiwa after all these years. My dad and uncle used the Bonnie Doon,a bit shorter If I recall correctly and the old Muldoon surf rod is still in the shed. It's really amazing you can still walk into ***** and buy a Solid Glass JWE rod after all these years Regards Charles

    Minn Kotas

Good to see Minnkota copying the Watersnake pedal, it's gotta be an improvement on the old model.I own one of each BTW.
  25. I used to like to bass fish the Nortons area in my canoe however you can't drive down there now and it's a long slog down the hill, it's was really becoming a jungle down ther last time I made the trip. After some serious water releases hard from the dam the whole area Penrith to Wallacia is worth a shot for trout. The weir below the dam is said to be a good spot but as Brickman says it's a bad idea to move upstream of the exclusion zone it's very dangerious and securtiy will move you along smartly.
