  1. Love the 40HP 2 Stroke. Not going to start the 4s vs 2s arguement but its quite a big boat for a 40hp. You will be ok going outside but make sure you are close enough if the weather was to turn that you can make a safe trip back.
  2. Mate that is a huge beast. How did it compare to the kings from the harbour? Never caught a balckfish myself but read they take some stopping. Needs a decent fish to bend a decent hook. What sort were you using? Cheers. Mike.
  3. Billy stop smoking the crack man and stop showing off about your stellas. He is asking about stradics and spheros.
  4. Cut loose mother goose. Thanks for the reply. I cant believe that you lot dont have any pictures. Come on put down your VB's, Carlton Draught or wine and get cracking. Get the digital out and snap a few of your tinny. Even if you dont have any pictures how about some comments??? Where is Big Bananna with his degrading comments when you need him? Here is the tinny again if you need it. Sorry for the shit photos. Cheers. Mike.
  5. Hey all. Was hoping that some people might post a few pictures of modifications that they had done to their tinnies (tiller steer to side console would be ideal). I have searched the forums and seen quite a few floors put in but i was after a bit more. I have a brooker 410 fisherman and i am contemplating, when the bank balance allows it, to put a casting deck in the front and back and side console in. Now i know its a small tinny (4.2m long) and the side console would take up space but i fish solo or with one other all the time so i think we can afford it. I also have been searching trying to find somewhere that sells the consoles to mount the electrics and wheel. I want somewhere that i can look at a few types to see what i like and how much its going to cost me. Any websites that you know of please PM me. Cheers. Mike.
  6. Hey all. Over the last few weeks i have tried quite a few of the different Slams! and had pretty ordinary results. Was wondering how other raiders were finding them? I find the slams are a bit hardier than the gulps but the gulps out fish them by miles. I used a bloody slam! tickled pink in a paddle tail minnow type shape over the weekend and it became a joke to my mates when they saw it on the jighead. About 1000 casts for a big donut. I am voting it the worlds worst SP! Cheers Mike.
  7. Ray there are some juicy snapper there mate. Bloody good job. I really need to get out there and chase a few. Cheers. Mike.

Nice one Hodgey. I hope you can continue to help out those not as knowledgable as you. Cheers. Mike.
  9. Hey Hodgey. I think i remember correctly that you fish Lake Macquarie. We were there over the weekend and had a brilliant time. You are a true battler having a go land based. We tried about 30 different spots in the Lake but only one produced constant results. Next time i am up there i will send you a PM and maybe we can go for a quick flick together. By the way have you ever tried pink slam baits in the 4inch paddle tail minnow size? I tried and tried with that crap plastic and nothing wanted it. Cheers. Mike.
  10. Yeah he battled through it the next day. Was pretty good about it as if it had been me i wouldnt have been happy. Here he is with a triumphant blue swimmer. Too small to keep however.
  11. Hey all. Well it has been an eventful weekend to say the least. Decided to go up to my grandparents place on the water up at lake mac. I already had a dinner arrangement on Friday night so i said to my other mates that were coming up to go up earlier and i gave them the key to the house. I arrived at midnight to find 2 of them missing, at Newcastle hosipital, as one had casted a 4 inch prawn into another of my mates eyebrows. Even though it was a lucky escape this time we all found it very very funny. The thought of three blokes driving back to the house with a prawn attached to someones face is rather humerous. By the sounds of things if this ever happens to you i would suggest not trying to pierce the skin with the hook to get it back out. Our skin is bloody tough stuff. They gave him a local but said the doctor took quite a while trying to get it back out and i would hate to think how painful it would be without the local. Just so you know how big it was it was a 3/0 nitro jighead. Ouch. Anyway back to the fishing. I hadnt fished the lake seriously for about 10 years. We set out on Saturday morning and tried a few places that were recommended. These produced very little so we decided to try a bay closer to where we were staying that i had luck as a kid. Drifting over a certain patch produced about 8-10 flathead all in the 35-60cm range. There were some monsters that busted us off though. The lake sure has some flathead. We all changed up our ten pound leaders for 17 pound after the 2nd bustoff but there were still a few smokings over the two days. Unfortunately we did try over near swansea bridge but that produced zilch. All in all a wicked trip away and the fishing was not dissapointing. We were all a bit annoyed that we couldnt locate any bream but there is always next time. I have added a few pictures below for your entertainment. One more thing is that my mate took a little bbq out on the boat one day and cooked us sausage sanbos with onion and sauce. I think that might need to become a regular thing when out fishing. Cheers. Mike.
  12. Hi TH, I am not sure which boat in particular you are talking about but i hope its not the ranger330. Thats one retarded looking unit. With respect to your question, i went through a similar exercise a while back. I couldnt justify spending the extra money on a quintrex for example. I ended up buying a brooker which was at a great price however i do believe that i got what i paid for. Its a great boat and i love it though it is not very stable at rest which makes flicking solft plastics around a bit more difficult. A good mate has a 4.35m hornet trophey and fishing from that is sweet. The best piece of advice i can give you is decide on how much you want to spend in total and then add a few thousand as thats what you will want to spend on extras trust me. For me personally i find the cheaper boats still do everything that i want just not as well as the more expensive options. Hope that helps a bit. Cheers Mike.
  13. Nice kingie simmo. I am sure getting them landbased requires some patience and skill.
  14. Nice little catch there. Flounders are weird looking fish i must say.
  15. Mate on 10 pd gear thats a good effort. Good man on letting everyone in on the yakkas location.
  16. Hi All, I bought a shimano tyrnos 16 a few months back and i really like it as a reel for live baiting but its pretty useless for SP use. Its matched with a 15-24kg live fibre which might be overdoing it a little as its used for chasing kings. Now i had never used an overhead before i bought it but figured that i would learn as i went. Now i dont need to cast miles out, such as from a beach, but would like to know if people can actually cast with these things and especially anyone that owns a trynos. I believe its pretty much a TLD but with more metal than graphite. The issue i have when attempting to cast is that the reel starts spinning and this spinning casues the line to go slack and then tighten quickly forcing the bait to stop mid air and go crashing down or even fling back towards the boat. Does anyone know what i mean or am i talking rubbish? I have heard that some beachfisherman use overheads thus i felt that some form of casting is achievable. Any tips on where to begin? I should say that i have a 5-8kg with an eggbeater that i use for SP in the harbour and i have no intention of using the above mentioned combo for SP use. i just want to be able to cast maybe 15m or so and allow the bait to sink down. I find that with unweighted baits its an easy way to get the correct depth that you want to achieve. Cheers for any help. Mike.
  17. I feel for you guys. What a terrible result after all that driving. I guess the good news is that if the insurance company pays up you can go shopping for new stuff!!
  18. I I captain it is a Tyrnos but a 16 not a 30. I spooled it with braid which i have heard is not a great idea but its ok for the time being.
  19. Howdy Stinger, I know its a little over the 100 bucks but shimano make a Symetre ( i think thats how you spell it) which i havent heard many bad things about. My mate has 3 small symetre 2000 or 2500 reels and loves em. Has caught kings, monster flathead etc and this praise is from a bloke that uses some pretty top notch gear. i dont bother to borrow them off him as i have a sol in the same size and i am pretty baffled with your Daiwa have shit drags comment but if its not feeling good for you then definately dont buy the same. Cheers. Mike. Just had a look and you can grab one for $155.
  20. I completely agree with Musty. I went for my second night fish in Sydney Harbour about a month ago. It was pretty horrible conditions but i know Sydney pretty well as i grew up living on the water there. I know my fishing results dont show that though. It was very, very scarey not being able to see sweet FA and smashing into chop. The first time i went out was on the Hawkesbury and it was equally as confusing. I spent my entire time staring at my mates GPS so i was sure that we werent about to run into a side bank as you cant see very well at all. If you are hell bent on going then try and take someone that knows the waterway well or at very least take it slowly and dojnt get boozed up which is pretty tempting. Cheers. Mike.
  21. Musty i have messaged Huey for a quote which is where i will take it when i can afford a service but there is another slight issue. I live in Leichhardt and Hueys is up near Cowan Creek and thats a fair drive. (Not sure if you remember but i tow my tinny with a little Yaris. Its loving the work between my house and Drummoyne boat ramp but thats only about 15mins. i am slightly worried that longer drive, closer to an hour, might give the engine more hurt than she can handle. For someone who has never changed a spark plug i think you are right to leave it to the mechanics. Cheers. Mike.
  22. Ok you guys are champions. Just for everyones info and why i am stumped. The fuel is about a week old. The oil is the quicksilver stuff musty mentioned and its mixed at 50:1 cos it has been run it already. The fuel is 100% unleaded with no ethanol as well. The reason its very weird was that i was out the Tuesday before using the same tank with the same mix same petrol and it wasnt happening. Do the spark plugs seize up or stop working properly just from sitting there? I dont own one of those spark plug remover things and dont own a lawnmower as i live in a concrete jungle. So no learning on that. The way i like it. Not really just cant afford any grass. Musty i was hoping John could help but i have rang him so many times lately to help and give advice i thought i would put it to the forum first. Can you do a carby tune up on your own or is that mechanics only? Cheers, Mike.
  23. Great flathead little slinky!!! I am sure you will outfish your dad one day.
  24. Thanks for the comments so far. Yes i checked the fuel line as i had read in someone elses post a while ago that may be the issue. Its was still in perfect condition. Billfisher it still ran at a good speed 65km/hr at WOT. I might get someone that knows more than me to check the plugs. I realise it was supposed to be serviced but i just dont have the de niro at the moment.
