  1. Mate 20pd braid over structure. If my brain, after a few beers this is, calculates 50ft to about 20m... i think its too light. I am sick of catching small %$# and want a meter plus king and 20 pound will get smoked big time in my opinion. Dont know your skill level but it would take some angler to stop one of them on 20pd on a 8kg rod. Why would you want a baitcaster? I hear they are great for accurate casting but for drifting any bait, live or dead, sounds rediculous to me. Get an overhead or eggbeater. I hate baitrunners so will never suggest them. Actually get a baitcaster so there are more for me to attempt to catch.
  2. Nice one SH. A good catch there. Nothing better than salt and pepper squid. Maybe chillied squid. Cheers Mike.
  3. Sounds like a killer combo to me as well. Everything from small flathead to rat kings on that bad boy.
  4. Hey there. Personally i wouldnt use blades from the shore as there is far too many things to get snagged on. At about $15 a pop for them it is an expensive learning curve. SP are the go in my opinion. If you snag that at least its only about $2 worth and you can either force it off and possibly get it back or just break the line and rerig. When using them, i know there is varying techniques for different fish, dont just keep winding in and twitching. Twitch it with 2 or 3 little upward twitches and then allow it to sink back to the bottom, not winding in. Then wind in and take up the slack and begin your twitching process again. I find like most fisherman that flathead are the easiest to catch on them and most often for me they take it on the drop and when you are winding in the slack or even beginning your twitching again you will feel weight and hey presto you are on. I think the pause between the upward twitches like you describe is the most imortant part of the technique. By the way both Balmain and Balmoral will hold fish but its going to be very hit and miss. Good luck mate.
  5. I should apologise. My ignorance of electric reels combined with a few too many VB's and the poor cricket performance induced a rant which was a load of rubbish. Good luck to you if thats your preference. Cheers. Mike.
  6. I agree. Leave the cliches in the boat. Sounds like no sharks and only one gemfish on an electric reel. Not that i have used one but the whole idea of using an electric reel makes me as irritated as watching the Ashes now. If its about getting some fish artificially go to the fish markets. I cant believe we are losing to the shithouse poms.
  7. I didnt go but heard it was rubbish. My mate told me he paid about 16 bucks for parking and then another to 18 to get in to see nothing special. I would have rather put 25L of petrol in the boat and had a crack in the harbour. Was out on the harbour on Sunday and there was a bream comp on and there were some savage bass boats around. I must say though some people that were there had more money than sense the way they drive them.
  8. That is moronic to do it then. Leading into summer when the weather is nice. I will be truely pissed off if thats the case. Glad about the upgrade however.
  9. Sorry Richie didnt realise it was for the whole package. Sounds a bit better now. It will definately blow smoke. Was it started at the blokes house or in water? I dont know a huge amount about engines but i was pretty surprised about the amount of smoke that came out of my 2S when i first started it at home with the muffs on it. The neighbours sure werent impressed. When you are on the water and on the move you dont notice it at all. I guess its hard to gauge what to do as if you do what pelican suggests and get a mechanic to look at it,unless its a mate, it will cost you a fair slap of the salami and then if its a pile of shit then thats money down the gurgler. Personally i buy everything new. Doesnt mean its problem free but its covered under warrenty. It obviously costs more but i dont experience the aweful feeling of something braking and knowing i cant afford to fix it. If you have good mechanical knowledge then a 2nd hand motor can be fixed if issues arise but if neither of you have a scooby doo then in my opinion its not a good idea.
  10. Hey Richie i am not sure about the problem but i saw a 30HP Merc 2 Stroke, brand new, for sale for $3000 about 4 months ago so $2300 for a second hand 15HP sounds a bit steep to me???
  11. Nice one jewgaffer. 3000 posts is pretty savage. I agree with what was said earlier that you certainly write a decent amount each time so its probably closer to about 10,000. 9,992 were regarding barometer pressure and jewfish.
  12. There are some wreckers i think down at Blackwattle Bay near Rozelle/Annandale. It looks to me more of a cemetary for boats but i have never been inside. Cheers. Mike.
  13. Nice one Vince. Hows the new home treating you? Did you manage to find a new home for that monster of a fish tank? Sweet red action there. Cheers. Mike.
  14. My first suggestion is that you are a girl for not taking out the boat for five weeks. Naughty naughty. More seriously i had the same issue and i read about it everywhere to try and rectify it. I am fairly tight with my cash so if it could be fixed in house then i would have. Most people suggested to me that maybe i was running a mixture that was too rich in oil. I was in the run in phase of a new motor so i put it down to that. I finished with the run in phase and the oil leakage seemed to stop. I dont even check anymore as the engine is still running smoothly, way over due for a service i might ad, so i am happy. There are a few on here like pelican and slinky that will have better advice. Huey would be able to help if its serious. Did the engine run fine whilst you were flushing? Personally i wouldnt worry about it unless you are a greeny and worried about the extra pollution.
  15. That is some funny shit Greg. Where on earth did you find that though???
  16. I hadnt seen it here and thought i would speak my mind about the ruling in court today regarding the idiot that fell from the bunk bed. Suing your sons friends parents and being awarded $860,000 makes me feel sick in the stomach. Those poor parents lives are now ruined. People spend their entire lives working and saving to provide for their children and it is taken away by some moronic judge. What is this country coming to. I was always proud that litigation in Australia was not like the states where there is any kind of misfortune- someone is at fault. I can imagine that if everyone thinks back over their lives there has been accidents that have inflicted pain and suffering but no law suit eventuated. The parents and child may well have money now but they will always be know as money hungry FU*&^ITS. That child and parents will have no friends and i am glad. Who would want to be friends with someone like that. Not I!!!! Rant over. Mike.
  17. It took all my control to not reply to this earlier. I suppose those greenies that think my behaviour was bad before will go nuts at this but i hope i am entitled to my opinion. "Saltwater eels are often resident in a particular location and, in some cases, can actually become quite tame. They're not introduced, they play an important part in the ecosystem and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect." That makes me laugh. There are many things out there that play an important role in a system that i am sure you have got rid off before. Are you people telling me that you have never sprayed a cockie or a fly with bug spray???? SHAME ON YOU! Get a grip people. I put back pretty much all the fish that i catch, apart from what i am going to eat, as i do care about the ecosystem. I stand by my earlier comment.
  18. Nice one Tan. Did that 3 buck lure go down to the bonnie you lost? I really think bonito give a good account of themselves for their weight.
  19. Mate we caught a big dirty eel just near the spit not too long ago. Definately exist in the salt water. Smack it with a club next time you catch one.
  20. I got stopped yesterday too and asked about the sticker. I know its varied but the MSB guy that stopped me was cool and gave me one and was actually more interested in the fish that we had caught than fining me. I had all the right safety gear thus avoiding any fines.
  21. Yeah there was a bream comp on.
  22. Nice one Richie. Looking forward to reading the first report of great catches from her. Have you named it yet? I hope you have some more cash stashed away cos she looks like it could suck some de niro.
  23. My opinion is that 15 pound is too light for kings. Jew may be ok but i use 20 and 50 pound on two different reels and get smoked still with that. It really depends on where you are fishing but the gear that you mention is all good stuff. Havent used the snapper raider rod but heard ok things about it. The reel is a good value for money reel and should be ok. I personally hate baitrunners as they are very one dimensional. Could only be used for SP if you have been on the roids for the last 10 years. If you want a reel that is multi use then the symetre is a better option in my eyes. Will be fine for casting metals and SP as well as using for bait fishing. It doesnt have as high a drag, i think, as a baitrunner but if you are going to use 15 pound line then thats not important. Anyway i know i probably will cop a blasting for putting down the baitrunner but everyone has different views. Cheers. Mike.
  24. Mate i was up there over the long weekend and we got a few. We werent targeting them specifically but they kept following our soft plastics so we would chuck a jig over and get those ones. I am sure there are plenty more. I dont know the lake very well but we were mostly fishing in the close vicinity of Summerland Point. All were caught at dusk/ evening. Cheers. Mike.
